So many people have some great stories to share after watching this video. I would appreciate if you could stop by here to this facebook group maybe some people would be willing to share stories and further advice to like minded people. The link to the group is in the description.
"Suicide is a Permanent solution to a Temporary solution"...... I was suicidal because I was bullied by my peers at school, but my belated father committed suicide while he was Under the Influence, I wish he could've realized he how much he was worth to me and realized how much I loved him... I hope you people out there realize how important you are in someone's life and get the help you need, let your pride go and get help.. I did... I wish my father did. Your families need and love you.
@exomorphe I was in the same place with weed. I went to AA and was honest, open-minded, and willing. I've been sober for 8 months now and life is enjoyable again. Keep going to meetings until you find one where you hear someone else tell your story to you without ever meeting you.
"Cult" what a load of shit... I am not a member of AA nor an addict, but I have family members that are, and because of AA they have been clean and sober for many, many years.. If this is a "cult" then I have nothing but respect and love for it...
I don't have a drinking problem, I have a thinking problem. --This is perfect, there is no better way to sum it up. This video is my inspiration, I quit drinking for 18 months and started back again thinking I could keep a handle on it. Now, here i sit, 5:06 am, unable to sleep and wallowing in self pity. I'll watch this daily if I have to, I will not allow myself to be controlled by this, from this day forward I am challenging myself not to have another drink.
@daberr2 You can't quit until you decide you want to. My problem was I "wanted to want to" quit and failed many times before those 18 months. Even when I started drinking again I did it to test myself to see if I could keep a handle on it and I could not so I quit again.
As Craig says, some people can drink and some cannot, once you accept you are one that cannot and truly set your mind to it you can do it. You don't HAVE to have a 12 step program, you have the power within yourself. Promise
I'm going to have "the talk" tonight with my alcoholic boyfriend. We both love this show, maybe I'll play it for him so he can see that you can get your life back and still be able to laugh.
I found the secret is to do something so personally repellant that the thought of getting drunk is tantamount to a moral stroke. From what I understand, this doesn't usually work for people who drink quite as heavily as I used to. But after a good half-week of hearing my own voice yelling terrible things at me from the wall, it did kind of lose its appeal.
I'm 27 years alcohol free! Never got into it~ :) With that said, I won't say not drinking makes me stronger. To the contrary, I believe if you've been in a situation like Craig's, and you're able to make a come back like he has, THAT makes you stronger! Proud of you Craig! And I'm proud of everyone else who is able to get their lives back from Alcohol! =D
yeah, I need the motivation. I was clean for a year. I fell off the wagon thinking I could drink socially only around others and only a few drinks. It worked well for a month then the past 2 weeks is just an alcoholic blur. Body started rejecting everything I put in it. I was beyond depressed. liquor bottles everywhere, hygene terrible, house in shambles. that was 3 days ago, and I'm just now feeling normal. still dehydrated, with the runs. but I finally got a few hours of sleep thank god
@a2r1v1i2s Good on you. The first week is the hardest. In that first stage of withdrawal, food, vitamins and sleep are the main aim. Get those and you will get better. Good luck!!! If you can't eat, get some meal replacement drinks.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
My dick and balls tell me AA is for weak fucktards! or just the absolute bored hopeless alcoholic wanting to share drunk stories. Hopeless because of the way the aa system is set up. It is not set up to get or keep you sober. My ass ok. It is a religious cult. freaky relgious scumbagery
If you want to quite drinking it is really up to you to stop. No one else. Simple as that. Thumbs up if you agree
I got 90 days yesterday. I used to watch this piss drunk because he was talkin solution. Total respect for this man, too bad the audience thinks its a joke.
@bigt0530 - I think the audience was laughing because Craig was funny, not because they were taking it as a joke. It's a powerful thing he did in this monologue, and he did it with honesty, empathy, AND humor. Humor is a very powerful resource and I think he hit all the right notes with it here.
@kronichsmoker42: You asked "when everyone ur around drinks what else do ya do? The answer, as painful as it may be, is stop being around those people.
Really amazing. When he speaks about the insight that he was self-medicating with alcohol due to "a thinking problem", I got goosebumps. I've heard the term before, but he really nailed the description.
When he says "I can't do this anymore.. i'm going to kill myself.. I'll show them". I think anyone with an addiction has had those thoughts. His message is so uplifting; he shows you the dark side but also the hope and experience.
As a guy who works in Addictions, this is a fatastic story. I have total respect for Craig Ferguson since seeing this video. Not just another cheesy Americanized (with a 'z' for effect) talkshow host. An inspiration. An ordinary flawed guy.
Way to go Craig!! It takes courage to deal with alcohol dependence and share it with the world! Thanks for sharing. You give hope to many people who are battling this condition the world over.
this is amazing that a person that has the viewership he has would choose to open a show with such a powerful issue and i am eternally grateful that a man of his stature would transfer an issue from lindsay lohan to the everday person that really affects people on a daily basis instead of making fun of them
@DutchPrisoner Great story, reminds me that alcoholism can effect people of all walks of life and society. Rich, poor, celebrity or not. great share by Craig.
If only it was that easy. I will pass the same Budweiser advertisement a hundred times at the same gas station. Life is good nothing crazy that would be a trigger. Yet I see that same advertisement and want nothing more than to cash in on that deal. Logic suddenly does not exist. And I quickly develop theatrics that Shakespeare would envy so my friends and family have no idea but I my drink. I'll take the evils of Satan over the reality of addiction
Can't believe I wrote that a year ago. Life's great, I can drink normally now, have self control and am living a happy, healthy and fulfilling life. I was in such a bad place when I wrote that comment. Never thought I'd get to where I am now, life is good. Are you in recovery?
This is what life is REALLY about. The SUPERHUMAN sacrifices that most of us wouldn't fathom making to keep moving on. Yea, his life is much better, but more importantly, his life became an instrument for inspiration to others. These are the kind of things that matter: making a difference in the world.
@theheatofthemoment Thanks friend, what a great comment. I'm a recovering alcoholic (I'm 27, 5 years sober) but I appreciate comments like you posted. I completely agree with your view. God bless.
I teared up when I first saw this video and just did again.

This video is amazing.
