To the hell with the "sound" (or noise, if you will) - a hub's best properties are its low rolling resistance, its durability and strength, its serviceability. Not a single one of these Chris King, Industry Nine, Hope or Hadley Youtube "videos" shows their respective rolling resistance or relates to their durability. My conviction that children under 20 (as a general rule, with a few exceptions) must not be allowed near Youtube, is empirically reaffirmed.
i have trials bikes with each hub and have to say that i prefer the I-9. when i am on the chris king it feels like a kids toy in comparison even though i know it is a high quality product.
The TruePrecision Stealth hubs are basically sprag bearings. I’m wondering, how well do they hold up over time? Also, the sprag bearing grips the axle directly, which can cause galling of the axle. Have you noticed this problem at all? Or have your Stealth hubs held up well with use?
Both are incredible hubs. I went with Chris King a year ago due to their proven track record and I heard rumors that I9's didn't seal out water as well, so you have to replace the bearings periodically (not cheap!). Have you found this to be true?
I don't understand how anyone can trash talk either of these hubs. Both are just a dream to ride on. The sound of both of them is music to my ears. The sound of mechanical quality.
Shouldn't the I9's sound "better" (i.e. higher pitched, more mechanical, etc.) since they have more points of engagement? 120 as opposed to what, 108 in the kings?
You're listening to a recording, so it's probably harder to tell the true sound, but yes, the I9's do have a more mechanical sound. I9's are 120pt (3 degrees), Kings 72pt (5 degrees).
However the CK hub have only 72 teeth per drive ring, but these always contacting with each other at every 5 degrees movement. Whule in the I-9 hub around the third of the teeth contacting at the same time.
Get some dirt on those Bikes!!!

That noise. If you put one on your handlebar and spin it, you'll get green at traffic lights.

The king is the first set. I have both and I like my I9's a little more then the kings. The kings are not as strong so they remain on my XC bike.
But if you want INSTANT engagement find yourself some Stealth 2 hubs. Silent and bang on.

First of the CK hubs need to break in. You have to run them about 100 miles before they losen up.
