@temarichan2 the cold war, the U.S was afraid and so was the SovietUnion they were both afraid of nuclear fallout and mass destruction but in the end who won kid.
@fallout401 I was saying that this movie was made because of the cold war not the Japanese. I do know who won the Cold War. I may be American but I'm not that stupid.
B. Basically no one because the Soviet Union broke apart and the cold war just kind of died out with no one to really fight it. But we Americans like to think we won it.
@260830107 No, not really. The fears of atom bombs being dropped were very real back then, so to calm people down and try to curb paranoia, they made these films so they could sleep at night. Kind of like tornado preparedness videos... Same thing. I live in the heart of tornado alley, I've seen them all.... It makes a person feel better if they think they have some kind of chance for survival, thus, these films. A perfect example of "the Russians are coming" Red Dawn, a 1980's film
Everyone commenting here laughing about the use of newspapers for protection and duck and cover as measurements against radiation poisoning are IDIOTS. A little research into the subject you stupid citizens! Until the ban of lead from newspaper ink in 1985, newspapers were a good and cheap source for lead protection. Infact 1 inch of lead ink equals 6 inches of concrete cover in radiation protection. Also check your facts, there's Hiroshima survivors still living who were in a 2 miles range!
Last night, I had a dream that my country (The US) was attacked by the atom bomb, but the alarm was long, and there was no flash. Later in that dream, on the news, it said that the atom bomb alarm was set off by accident.
Keep in mind this was the 50's and im sure we all know that if there was any form of Nuclear fallout your fucked unless you have a lot of duck tape or an anti-radiation chamber near you..........
I remember learning duckNcover in elementary in the 60s, useless if your within say 10miles of the blast. Just gives people some hope not much but some.
LOL that is funny, if you arent ready (hiding under your desk) you will get hurt! It will burn you like a sunburn... really is that it? Will i get a tan afterwards haha thanks for posting this!

A couple of questions:
1. What was the context of this post? (What was the theme of the week?) It's so anachronistic, and seems rather naive in light of what we know today.
2. Why would you *want* to survive a nuclear attack?
RickySTT 10 months ago
If you were flashed... You will get radiation sickness from the Alpha, beta and gamma rays discharged during the first seconds of detonation.
Landotter1 11 months ago
i like how they think the same way you cover during an earthquake will save you from nuclear radiation...
