  • Great interview. Would like to have heard more from Radford but Irons and Pacino break it down good. It's like they never broke character.

  • Pacino lives at a time outside his own today, more criticized for over acting; for being too flamboyant. However, the correct thing to say, and the most accurate way of describing him is to say the modern role is too small for the full breadth of his range in charactor.

  • Pacino and Irons are real actors.

  • al pacino is the greatest actor of hollywood

  • Charlie Rose has excellent, intricate questions to the principal characters, still in effect he may tries to overanalyze the movie. At one point we get to allow the mistery of art and blessed talents to take over.

I think the director created a beautiful classic, by not rushing it. One of the actor mentions that they had the luxury to analyze the play and re-hearse it for a couple of weeks. It combines artistic cinematography, with otherwordly acting.

  • I love their interpretation of the Merchant of Venice, and the movie was the best adaptation EVER! It was so underrated...

I admire Jeremy Irons and Al Pacino's works, they are both... just... well, amazing!

But I'm under the impression that Charlie Rose himself is a) not very interested or b) has no clue what it's all about.

But THANKS for posting this! Very interesting!

  • really intelligent conversation thanks for upload.

  • Unfortunately, the interviewer spoiled it for me. The interviewer asked too many leading questions (implying his own opinion) and even interrupted Jeremy Irons when he had hardly uttered a sentence by pointing at Michael Radford. And I got the impression that the interviewer was not even interested in the answers. On the other hand, impressive to have so much talent in one cast. Look forward to see the movie.

  • I love Irons' accent.

  • Thanks for posting. really intersting conversation on the worlds greatest story teller from some of the best actors we have seen.

  • I really enjoyed the movie. I saw it a couple of years ago (2005?) and it was very realisitic. It would have been perfect to introduce young people to Shakespeare with this movie, but, alas, there is frontal nudity in it, which I thought was very unnecessary. This would not be something I could bring a young person to because of all the half-naked women. This is a great video. Thanks for providing it.

  • actually, in those days, prostitutes had to wear dresses that exposed their bosoms to show that they weren't boys! The law required it. However, I do understand wat you're saying. maybe you can get the television version? That one doesn't have any half naked women (or much of the scandelous kissing).

  • I didn't think the kissing was too scandelous. Kissing is okay.

  • I agree wholeheartedly!

  • i think that's a little over the top. you see it from a distnce and you only see it like once or twice. a young person might see it and giggle but it's really not that innapropriate. Great movie.
