Colt is worth paying a little more money for. Trouble is it's hard to find one brand new, and then you have to be worried about scratching it all up because it's a "Colt."

Hence I own a modified Loaded Springfield which costs less than both with a bunch of the 'extras' on it.

I have a kimber gold match stainless with bar dot adjustable tritium sights. It runs on anything I put through it. Over 1000 rounds and not one failure! Best hand gun

Get Wilson Magazines ASAP. 1911's just feel so good and shoot so awesome. Everyone that loves gun's should have at least one in their safe. .45 is a fun round to shoot and good 1911 is a lot of good fun.

not a fan of Kimber,also its made in NY,where overhead is as high as it gets in this country so while you may think your paying for quality in actuality your paying for overhead..I just out a DP on a Ruger which is a Kimber copy of sorts but only cost me 650.00...hope its a runner

how did you polish the barrel bushing? I have a kimber eclipse and the bushing is black, and I think it would look sweet all chromed or polished like yours

I know several 1911 techs and they say that fixing kimbers is a big part of their business. Colt is a quality gun but you pay a bit more for the colt name. Springfield makes a solid 1911 as well. Love the 1911 and I own several colts.

I bought a new Kimber Custom full size CDP 11. I fired 350 roundd through it and had 12 failure to feed. Would u suggest that u should polish The barrel by hand to get it to get it to feed better?

I have both and love things about both. The Kimber is stock, the Colt is modified slightly with light trigger and fitted bushing. Basically the Kimber is tighter, but the Colt has a fantastic trigger, and is like a loose, broken in tool you use and depend on every day. I would and have bet my life on either.

Bottom line their is only one difference between Colt and Kimber. That difference is Colt hold and increase their values, while Kimber will not increase in price.

This is due to high production numbers and the fact everyone knows the Colt name. I never even knew what Kimber was until I got into guns. Ask anyone born in America if they have heard the Colt name, and I guarantee 99 percent of people will have.

Thanks a lot for this video. Those are both great guns! I've got a decision agead of me and I'm looking at a couple 1911's (a Kimber and a Colt), and a Smith & Wesson M&P45. This video really lets me get a great look at these two 1911's and I appreciate that!

great review! i have one question about the barrels. Is the colt stainless? I have heard a lot of negative comments about kimber because their barrels are prone to rust.

Both guns have a stainless barrel. They are both " in the white" meaning there is no finish applied to them. I have had kimbers with small amounts of rust on the barrel and it cleaned up well with some flitz. I can see both barrels being prone to rust if not properly lubricated. If stored it would be a good idea to get a silicon impregnated gun sock. The silicon repels moisture and you have less of a chance of getting rust. Hope this helps. Thanks for the comment.

i have just been recently diagnosed with the 1911 bug :( i hear its a terminal disease. and treatment can be quite expensive. and this is not helping lol. beautiful 1911's been thinking about getting that exact kimber. do you have any other hits with the design or function besides the magazine and its follower? any failures yet?

Kimber makes an outstanding 1911. Personally I cant find any other flaws with the gun.  I have had many Kimbers and can count the malfunctions of all the guns with one hand. They're accurate and reliable and are priced very well for the quality 1911 they offer. When buying a new kimber I would suggest using a better quality mag during the first few hundred rounds (break in period).
