What more modern U2 fans probably don't realize is that this song was a B side of an overlooked EP that only hard-core U2 probably bothered to buy. "Three Sunrises" got only minor play on our independent radio station in D.C. and it was very short lived. As beautiful as this song is. Most people then (the mid-1980's) & now have never heard it.
One of finest examples of Adam's huge and underrated talent. I've never heard a bass track more melodic than this one. This is really "lead bass". Extremely wide and complex groove with jazz, funky and ambient elements in one track. Long live Sparky!!!
When I hear a song like that I think how great was the 80's for U2.Honest,No Line on The Horizon sounds like a crazy dog when compares what they did in the past.Money can destroy inspiration.
COMPLETAMENTE DE UN PURISTA RESULTA ESTE VIDEO,VAYA MEZCLA DE JOY DIVISION Y U2 QUE DE HECHO SON CONTEMPORANEOS,EXCELENTE VIDEO ,DIVINA CANCION ,MIL GRACIAS QUIEN SUBE Y REALIZA ESTE VIDEO!!!!
This was an obscure song from an underplayed album (on the airwaves in 1985. Reminds me of my first girlfriend always and the longing, since she lived 6 states away once the summer was over. Beautiful
I've grown up into adulthood now, but this song still gives me the same chills it did when it came out on 'Wide Awake'. I was 11 or 12 then, and my tastes in music were changing, as they will when you start to mature; it and U2 were simply magical back then (and they weren't Top 40 darlings as of yet--while still immensely popular around the world--so it was almost like being in a secret post-punk club of sorts, as one of their fans). Ah, a bonafide classic. Cheers for the post, Starfish.
U2 were far better pre commercialisation of their music, when songs were written because that was what they wanted to write. A very large percentage of songs that make it into the charts are utter garbage but unfortunately for the real musicians this is a necessity for the record label and ultimately sales. Bring back music for the people!
This is my U2 favourite song! Never heard it live. I´m going to see them on next 3 of October in Coimbra- Portugal, for the third time and i would love to hear this one.
Cos their songs are like wine... it takes time, so be patient (we often want instant sound of pleasure)
But not just considering songs, the listeners need to mature too, cos every period of time caries its content and i don't look at and listen some songs as i did for ex. 5 or 10 years ago. And the songs are same but we are not, aren't we?! Is that means that songs are not same also cos meaning is what we give to particular art
Yes I agree that U2 songs are like wine. They sound better as time passes, but this only holds true for die hard u2 fans like us. The average listener will listen to the album once, and if they do not like it in general, they will not listen to it anymore. This is the reason why NLOTH is the weakest U2 album after more than a decade. Even weaker than POP. Yes, we can argue that online piracy maybe a reason, but I find it hard to believe that coldplay hit platinum way faster than U2 did.
@adolfhuffer, NLOTH is a good album with great songs, especially Breathe and Magnificent live renditions. You're jaded, that's the problem. Though the album renditions were 'overproduced'.
yes, i agree. some songs from NLOTH are quite nice too. I like magnificent , fez , crazy remix , no line version 2 and moment of surrender.. i guess these songs need more time.. most of u2s songs sound better after a few years..
can the new U2 album just sound like this?? Please U2.. stop with the saving the world bit. Please go back to the song writing of unforgettable fire , joshua tree and achtung baby . mostly melancholic love songs. way coool
@adolfhuffer Actually ive been a fan for over 30 years and all of their songs are about saving something. The sound has changed with the times. Loved them in the 80s, hated them in the 90s got back into them in the 2000s and still think they are ok
So good... i'm glad they were released long ago (this and 3 sunrises) Sometimes good songs are left off albums only because they are a little off from the mood of an album. This is a good example. Great song, but, may not have fit on the Unforgettable Fire.
@bakedzale Utter rubbish track 'Elvis Presley and America' didn't fit on ANY U2 album, but they chose it over this and some other fantastic tracks for 'The Unforgettable Fire'
I played that "tape" yes tape! OVER and OVER again in my walkman all the way up to our 8th grade Yosemite trip in '88. and that was a 7 hour drive! very mystical, haunting stuff. really defines U2 as an art band, even after seeing them all over Apple and Blueberry! Never forget! :)
great movie better song, the b sides on unforgettable fire and joshua tree were quite amazing and ground breaking. to have a collection of back up song like these is rreally two fingers to anyone who has gone before and after this period.
It's almost a scandal why this never made any of the albums particualarly the Unforgettable Fire. One of my very favourite U2 tracks. Thanks for uploading this.
The bass line is the best, I listen to this song with the bass on high!!
