I can remember when my opa used to play this on the accordian, and my uncle on the guitar and we'd all be singing it. Beautiful song, Harry Hibbs brings back lots of memories <3
This brings back memories of listening to the Caribou Club on Thursday nights while my sister and I did the washing up after dinner. We would sing along with songs like this one - made me proud, then, to be Canadian, and still does.
I love this song......my father loved this song so much that everytime we had a family gathering and we were singing and jamming he would make sure that we sang this song. He would say .....sing my song...and of course we all knew what his favorite song was.....
Harry Hibbs song from the heart and the songs mean't something to him as Johnny Cash sang it for the money. Different artists miles apart, would rather listen to someone sing with meaning . And Harry Hibbs was born and raised in Bell Island, NFLD not toronto as was indicated on an earlier post came to toronto when his dad died to support his family and bring them to toronto for a better life
well your cool..he is not from bell island, he grew up there as a young kid..and spent most of his life in ontario. i know cause he is my grandfathers brother.
@jeagermenjensonfield ...to your post Uncle Harry was not from Bell Island ....Born and raised!! He came to toronto when my father sent for him after finding him a job to help support and bring his mother sister and baby brother to toronto after his father died....Uncle Harry only had 3 brothers and one of them as of yet has no grandkids....and I am sure if you where truly his great nephew you would now this...as do my sons who are truly his great nephews

listen to another version by"Mike14090040" (more country,Dylan's style.....! ,not so bad to me at least). this"Mike" also sings "the blizzard" (sad sad song!!!) but I prefer (once more !! ) Cash's version
