Dr. Jonathan Talberg, the conductor in this piece, is an amazing musician and really knows how to shape a choir. I've worked with him many times...and this is what one expects from his students/singers.
Thanks for the comment - I'm glad you can tell how good this was even from this silly little recording, which does CSULB's Spring 2008 choir absolutely no justice. I was stunned at how good they were, which is why I pulled out my camera during the concert and started recording.
I disagree with alot that you've said here. As far as youtube goes, this is THE best video of this song after UNT's rendition in my opinion
-Dynamics 8? I think the contrast from the beginning to the end of the song has great dynamic contrast. Id say maybe a 9 or 9.5.
-Pitch 2?!?! Seriously??? All the pitches were there...the soprano descant is actually in the music, & I think it sounds amazing. even if it you didnt like it doesnt mean the rest of the pitches were a 2.
Great performance! I love the arrangement! The tenors kick ass and the whole performance was awesome (dynamics, enunciation/pronunciation, and intensity) however I agree with whoever said it, it was a bit fast.
Theres this part at around 1:05 when the guys say "BLOW THAT HORN JOSHUA" and anytime I hear other choirs do it, it sounds gross, like 2 wrong notes on a piano. I know its written that way, but when this choir did that part I didnt hear it. In my opinion thats a plus lol.
Absolutely AMAZING!!!! Especially the end, the tenors are sooo good. Soprano descant had so much vibrato it was great, not to mention the dynamics at the end. Great Performance, but its called "The Battle of Jericho"
You guys are amazing, I listened to your choir at the Chapman Festival last month and you were by far the best choir there. I hope to join your choir sometime soon :D
Thanks for this beautiful version of Joshua. Am convinced your Italian audiences will be blown away on your international performance tour this summer. Let's see how this one sounds in St. Peter's Basilica.

it's interesting that they did the ending a bit differently; sets it apart from the rest of the -pretty fast- song. great stuff.

This was ok. It was alot better then most of the versions of song that I have.
10 is the best
Balance: 7/10
Dynamics: 8/10
Pitch: 2/10 (what was that soprano at the end doing? being killed)
Diction: 7/10
Stress: 5/10
Overall: ok, excellent but not superior.

I disaree with just about EVERYTHING you've said here. HAHA.
Balance was extremely good! Dynamic, awesome..definitely a 9.8. Pitch 2? Really? You're crazy...are you tone deaf??
This really is the best version I've seen on youtube. These are some really talented, smart musicians!!

29/50...your overall assessment doesn't add up to "excellent", as you put it.
I think you better review your own review.
