No, not really. If you check Wikipedia, Funkadelic (one of my favorite groups) put their first album out in 1970. It was called Funkadelic. The Band of Gypsys, made their live debut at the Fillmore East on New Year's Eve, 1969, for a series of four shows spread over two nights. The famous/fantastic, epic "Maggot Brain" came out in 1971. By the looks of it, they were mere months apart.
