Like it matters if he is gay? A GAY OPERA SINGER? OMG, how odd! As for his singing, there is a great deal of it that is quite good. God, youtube has turned into a cesspool for bitter, bitchy opera queens. I feel dirty after having ready 90 percent of the "comments".
Wow. Those are some ringing, brilliant C's. And how many tenors do "Militaire...et...Maaaaari" voicing every consonant and vowel. It's totally unnecessary. And totally badass!
There are several videos of RB singing this aria on YouTube, and I don't think this is his best performance.
I notice you posted these in 2007--was Lawrence Brownlee on the scene much then? He certainly deserves to be counted among the selection you have here, if there are videos available.
Why make you the comparison of my comment with the voice of Maria Callas? I admit that I was a little bit nasty with R.Blake, naturally he has a lot of talent and a very great presence on stage, his voice is very beautiful but I do not like her technique! I had the pleasure and the honor to speak to him more than 20 years ago, it's a charming man is very pleasant.
Sorry if I shocked you. I hope that you will forgive me :-)
At first his voice sounded very unappealing although I think most of it is because one could probably walk back and forth through his vibrato. Otherwise very nice voice. 4/5
The thing is... he is an AMAZING singer but this is not the best repertoire for him. Just listen him doing Rossini... things like Otello, Armida or Donna del Lago are just unbelievable in his voice.

I am sorry but he's horrible. He sounds like a pig squeal. Snging a high note is not about screaming and ripping throught it. I won't hold is lack of basic french pronounciation against him though :-) The final note is perfectly wrong by the way. Stick to the score please!
Well, thats charming I must say................a fag. You might actually like to keep your boring comments to yourself or stay in the closet, you reside.
4/4. Yes, his voice is the Rochefort cheese of opera - a very acquired tatse. I like it and I like him. His fach fits this role, he acts it well, and his top Cs are stunning. Not the best though, that can only fall to two men - Pavarotti, King of the Top Cs, and Florez, King of the Top Ds!
high D's, i guess you should better listen to Tanner knight in order to listen a High D, Flores don't sing High D's But C's. Personally I don t like Knight in doing so I prefer the natural version of this aria.
No not in this aria! On his Rossini disc he does, and in Pesaro this year he did. On his latest disc, Arias for Rubini, he sings too many to count! I do have a recording on Mattuezzi singing a top F at the end of this aria though...
The perfect Rossini tenor. He sounds like a fisch in the water in this Donizetti repertoire too. His voice sounds very small in the couplet, though his high C's are shining. 4/4
no se porque tiene esa pesima mania de acelerar los tiempos, seria mucho mejor si los respetara, por lo demas, es uno de mis favoritos, facilidad para agudos y un timbre raro, no muy agradable. hay que acostumbrarse a escucharlo.
Of this group, Rocky is probably the best for this aria, then Kraus. Rocky's legato and ability to sing top C's with ease, elegance and strength remains unrivaled.
What this man has achieved in Belcanto is unbelievable! I have always found his singing intoxicating! In a concert version from the early 80s he even interpolated a D in the cadenza lol 5/5
Love him or hate him (and there are many on both sides), you can't deny that the man had technique to BURN; especially in Rossini, which is where I like him best. He also could hold notes so long you thought his eyes would cross from lack of oxygen. Incredible singer. 4.5/4.5

good top cs. but I don't know why he sometimes drags his jaw down on a note--making it sound darker is not neccessarily better.
The only times Bjorling did that was to go from up high to right down... not on the same note :p

Stiff, snob and sometimes he sings like a goat! I don't like!

If something did not have M.Calas it was a beauty in his voice and if she had something there was precisely haughty in his person.
She sings like a goat!.

It's funny, none of these people compare to Pavarotti's early performances of this song. No one holds 9 second high C's in the list you've compiled.

veo que acusa un tremolo pesado, en los agudos, es peligroso, incluso desafina, su timbre, no me gusta prefiero mil veces a Luciano.
