@boldstandard I just read your comment, went back to listen to a sebadoh record because I thought you were crazy, and came to the same conclusion as I had before listening...they sound nothing like each other...quick side note: all sebadoh songs sound the same.
@ahotmeal That was the best defense possible. But the fact remains he sounds just like the singer from Sebadoh. Maybe the emotions are real, but the tone color, the melodies, and the vocal style are a carbon copy. Xian bands are almost always copies-- "the Christian Pearl Jam," "the Christian Metalica." Here is "the Christian Sebadoh." At least they had the foresight to rip a band nobody listens to.
@boldstandard I'm a fan of both band and I have never even thought to compare them. But if I'm forced to bazan has more variety, as well as cleverer lyrics. Ps. Bazan hasn't been Christian in years. Listen to his new stuff. I recommend Bands with Managers, Hard to Be, Selling Advertising, and Wolves at the Door.
I like the guitar, but the singer is such a Sebadoh ripoff, and the lyrics are horribly cliched. "Is it your way or the highway" Really? You didn't make that up, dude.
@boldstandard the fact that you so casually denote David Bazan as "the singer" shows that you know nothing about PTL. this explains why you view his lyrics as cliché. in actuality, satire and cynicism are trademarks of his work. he is exposing people's reluctance to change and adapt, and makes this character trait seem childish and weak by using that cheap expression. and as for his voice, honesty and bleak loneliness like this can't be ripped of. he is as genuine as they come.
@ScienceMcGhee it's not a cover. this is the original recording by pedro the lion. or else he's reeeeeeeeally good at covering music to the point where you can't tell him apart.
I loved this song when I was an angsty-as-fuck teenager, and now that I'm an angsty-as-fuck grown man with wife and daughter it's still the first thing I put on when I'm in a terrible mood.
I love this song, thanks for putting it up. "is it special when you're lonly, will you spend your whole life, in a studio apartment with a cat for a wife?" awesome. I heart perdro the lion forever.
I loves Dave...

@lickapotato Well, no, my friend. Of course not. He's made many formal statements that he is an agnostic.
