There are reasons why students return to China, one main reason is perhaps the one child policy, also in the west they are "average" whereas in China they have more opportunities and are part of the elite class. Imprisoning, torturing and enslaving people for dissenting against their government is a crime under *international* law, a violation of basic human rights as defined by the United Nations. It is foolish and wrong to be so trusting of ones own government, leaving politicians to their own devices, hence the corruption in Chinese government bodies. There are reasons why students return to China, one main reason is perhaps the one child policy, also in the west they are "average" whereas in China they have more opportunities and are part of the elite class. Chinese are politically naïve, not all of course, many I have contact with are very apathetic and only interested in their own lives, perhaps because most are part of the wealthy consumer class in China and thus have no reason to complain, they have everything the poor of China do not.

The North is continuing its aggressive stance and the one thing propping it up is support, both moral and material, from the Chinese government. If it had been China that had its naval vessel attacked or towns bombarded from artillery, you and I both know there would be a major war. Chinese support of dictatorships such as North Korea is unacceptable, and they should be criticised for it.

I am dissapointed that this video only has 5619 hits as of my viewing.... This man is brilliant, he's intelligent and well spoken and actually cares about people and is willing to challenge the incredibly corrupt chinese government and take a stand for what he believes in, even if it means he will spend most of his life in prison.
More people should know, and care about this man, if it ever came to him getting out of prison and came seeking political asylum, I would petition for his cause.

Not saying the states is saint, but there is a fundamental diff between assange and Liu. Assange is leaking sensitive infor which can damage national security, this Liu dude is simply asking people's rights being recognized and respected.

@titsubo As far as what happens in law enforcement. A police officer is punished when excessive force is used. China is a dictatorship, authoritarian society. the people there are not free. There is no free movement of people between provinces. You forget the mass killings that took place during the early 90s by the Chinese Army shot with tanks. This is what you promote. If not for the US, Russia would of invaded Western Europe decades ago, you would not have the freedom to talk this crap.

Au contraire, monsieur, it does not take a genius to understand why this is wrong. Liu Xiaobo is practicing a right that should be free to the world, the freedom of speech. The ability to criticize the government is something that should be implemented because that is what makes a country free. China's pride is in attempting to establish that its government is unshakable, an act that would make it not a democracy, but a dictatorship. This is not a question of foreign pressure, but human rights.

The Chinese government doesn't stop them from studying, they don't stop them from making money and they certain wouldn't stop them if they wish to migrate abroad. Ah, change comes slowly to China does it? The Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River displaced more than a million people and will be completed in less than 20 years. In only three decades China has become industrialized and urbanized to the point that cancer from pollution is the leading cause of death. Sure- change must be slow there.
Is it only in destruction that humanity should hold any speed, and in all other endeavors meander so slowly that movement is almost imperceptible?
