  • thanks alot mate,i needed to know this!!

  • could i run 2 different graphics cards but both having crossfire?

    like a 6770 and a 6850?

  • Gotta love those HATCHEDMI connectors.

  • so i took my motherboard placed it on top of the box it came in installed both of my graphics cards listened for the clicks and know my computer won't turn on o_O

  • @27ground lol dumbass

  • Placing my ASUS 3 slot below the HIS 2 slot will allow the top card an inch of breathing room rather than no breathing room if the 3 slot card were on top.

  • I am adding an ASUS EAH6950 to an HIS 6950 reference card. To my understanding this will work. In the bios you have to choose which slot is the primary, master, or card 1. Considering the ASUS takes up 3 slots and the HIS is a two slot card I would like to make my lower card the primary card that the monitor cables will attach to, I hear it is possible, but I wonder what happens when an application is not compatible with crossfire. Some cards don't need the bridge, most do need the bridge.

  • just a question... ive heard of crossfire software without the cable..... is it possible?

  • my mobo asus m5a78lmusb3. card asus hd6870. would just need to plug 2 of the same cards without any configuration?

  • So i can have say a XFX 7970 and a ASUS 7970 and it would work?

As long as they are the "numbers"?

  • why do i want to crossfire? do i get twise the power then? so i can play harder games?

  • x58 cpus still good?

  • This helps. Thanks

  • So that was what that ribbon was! My crossfire connector came with the tower not the motherboard nor the video card. I so want to try this!

  • is crossfire a good thing to do or should i buy a graphics card that does the same power help pls

  • @SchoolKidzProduction Entirely up to you, but if you buy a more powerful card, you can always Crossfire that later on ;)

  • Thank you for this

  • can i put 1gb and 2gb cards together?

  • hi im thinking about using 2 6870's in crossfire but I do not know which hdmi port to use on the gpus themselves (the first gpu or the second gpu).

    can someone help me out?

  • @ghajaanan i usually use the top one but it doesnt matter if you were ti unplug it while in windows and hook the hdmi cable to the other one you would here the sound of you unplugging something from your computer like a usb flash card and when you hook the hdmi up to the other one youll here the sound of hooking something in and in a few seconds the screen will come back on and work just as it did when hooked into the other one

  • will ati support 3 way? i have 3 hd 5450's (2 with eyefinity) and i was hoping to get at least 9 monitors running. I have windows 7 64 bit & i use display fusion at the moment to control my different displays, but was wondering if i can add a 3rd card (my GA-X58A-UD7 came with crossfire & 3 way cable) but i'm hesitant to just plug it in, or can i just run the 3rd card on it's own?

  • @sarinarailways if theirs only 1 connector at the top then it only supports 2 cards kid of like in this video these only support 2

  • I have two pci express slots, but its Intel board so its not specifically sli or crossfire compatible... i found a hack that lets me use sli on any mobo with two slots, but what about crossfire. do i need a certain board or can i use mine?

  • Please help me. Hi Im gettin my pc back from a dude that was to fix it but he never has done anything to it and I dont know the specs of my pc but when I turn it on it would start to smell like burnt popcorn and I am worried that I will have to fix a whole new pc. I have been looking into cheap motherboards becuz i think it is motherboard or power thingy but i want to do the crossfire with two cheap crossfire cards with $300 with motherboard or power suply with that included or just single card.

  • what about if i have only 8x 8x pci-E how much of performance i ame going to loos .for example 2 HD 6870 ? please

  • @erenei .....if you are using 16x and 8x you are to lose 5% of the grafics because the powerful vga ,16x, is tryng to keep up whit the 8x, in your case i belive that the decrease it wil be allmost the same from 5% up to 10% .

  • Are two 1gb 6770's equal to one 2gb 6950 ??? If someone could please answer this that would be great, because I know the 2gb 6950 is pretty expensive.

  • @sebastiao2160 yes it well be the same of an HD 6950

  • Does anybody know if you need the exact same brand of graphics card to Xfire? I know you need the same GPU, but do you need both cards to be Sapphire, for example? Can one be a Sapphire and one be an Xfinity?

  • for sli the bridge comes with the motherboard and for crossfire it comes with the card

  • I have a second 6950 I just bought. I put it in my PCIe slot and plugged in the 6 pin connectors. When I turn my PC on and go to the Device Manager, only 1 'AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series' shows. I don't get a crossfire setting in the CCC either. I've reinstalled drivers, plugged each card in 1 at a time, I tried a lot. Please help?

  • @WR1ck1e the crossfire bridge ? 1:15

  • @HappoWelho you dont need the same brand

  • @WR1ck1e are you shure your boar supprots CrosFire ???

  • Is it that simple? Damn, I feel stupid >.<

  • oooooh! Just bought my cpu today, first time I ever built one myself, and I saw this crossfire thing, and was like ,wtf is this for about 10-15 minutes. Now I know

  • My board has 4 Slots cause im about to use 4 cards...so how would I connect those together? Do i do them the same or do i need some more stuff?

  • @ChevySoloX some cards have 2 crossfire connectors you have to purchase the right kind of card for that then you daisy chain the connectors if you only use 2 with cards that have multiple crossfire bridges you link both bridges together

  • @wdunn001 Thanks for the help

  • how did you enable crossfire? Do I need first to install the second so that the crossfire menu come out.? coz im only using one 6950 right now and there's no menu about crossfire on my ccc

  • u say h like......... heych

  • i recently purchased a second graphics card exactly the same brand and model chipset as the one i have currently installed and running on my cpu (so no problems this far), wen i plug in the second one on the second pcie 2.0 port and connect the two graphics cards with a crossfire bridge the cpu will not even boot up and it will not display anything on screen it will not even do a hard boot when holding the power button. please help my mobo is 870icafe 2.0

  • @37712 maybe your power supply is not up to scratch, make sure that you have at least 750 watts and enough PCI-E 6pin and 8pin power leads plugged into both graphics cards, if it's less than 750 watts or does not have enough cords to plug into the cards then there will not be enough power for them to output a signal

  • @TotalJargon my power suply has 750 watts and eough 6 and 8 pin connectors to power 4 cards. both cards are plugged in to the power supply properly and they are both mounted on PCIe 2.0. I have tried to use one and two crossfire bridges but makes no difference, dont know what to do =( depressing.

  • @37712 on a 750 watt? sounds odd, is the PSU SLI and Crossfire certified? all decent power supplies will have that

  • @TotalJargon ok i finally found out my retarder stupid mistake i forgot to connect the p4 connector from my psu to the mobo. sorry for having waisted your time man but thanks for trying to help. i guess there really is no use in trying to help stuped ppl hehe

  • @37712 hey no times wasted if the end result is positive :P glad you figured the problem out ^^

  • And about them being so close, just move it to the third slot...?

  • @TheHaCkEr1234321 nope.avi

  • @MrQuantumE It just has to be the same chip, doesn't matter who the manufacturer of the card is.

  • @TheHaCkEr1234321 I know, why are you telling me that XD

  • @TheHaCkEr1234321 most motherboards only have 2 PCI-E X16 slots and if it does have 3 the third one is likely only wired up to use x4 bandwidth, the second slot usually has x8 bandwidth (which is usually the best your going to get unless you buy a bells and whistles motherboard)

  • @TotalJargon Yes, I am aware of that. But on that board he has 3 Express slots. And the bridge looks long enough from my perspective.

  • @TheHaCkEr1234321 it looks long enough but from my experience PCI-E slots with a PCI slot in between each other is just a tad too far for an average crossfire bridge to reach from the first to the third slot, and pulling the cards together so that it will reach is likely to damage the motherboard.

And upon inspecting the specs of this motherboard runs the first 2 slots at x16, whereas the last slot is only at 4x, thats a HUGE performance dip, not even worth crossfiring if you ask me

  • @TotalJargon Yea, I see where your going. From what I've been told you just want to avoid anything lower then 16x if you can.

  • @TheHaCkEr1234321 the length of the crossfire bridge should also be taken into consideration

  • I have a question, I have the Radeon HD 4850 1 GB GDDR3 by Sapphire. I know I need to get the same video card, but do the specs have to be exactly the same? (IE an identical card?) Or Can it be another HD Radeon 4850, but with 512mb or something? Thanks!

  • @thedeeceteam it can be another 4850 doesn't matter who makes it.

  • This is so easy i feel stupid to looked it up :p

  • gotta love english accents :D

  • wow all you do is plug that tiny wire together and it works? Damn this is easier than science

  • Can I crossfire a Radeon HD5850 with a Radeon HD6870 ?

  • @EoghainBledynn

No, your graphics cards have to be the same generation.

  • @teriophage Well, I tried it anyhow, and i now run BF3 with +110 fps on settings all maxed out :P

  • Comment removed

  • yesterday i bought an gtx580 today i gave it back and got two of the same his 6950 xD much better and in 1920x 1200 is better than the gtx590 and hd6990 not by alot though.

  • Do you think it would work with 2 16x PCI with one filled and at dual 8x both.

  • can you run crossfire with the first and third slot? like first one is 16x third is 8x same size as a 16x slot

  • @morgorth3242

Depends on the motherboard, a lot of motherboards that have 3x PCI-E slots, the third one is electrically PCI-E x16, but only has x4 bandwidth. This is pretty standard.

You will need to check the specs on your motherboard to determine if this is the case.

You wont want to crossfire a card in a 16x or 8x slot with a 4x (despite it being electrically 16x) slot, it will slow down the entire setup.

  • Do you need the bridge?

  • Thanks A LOT!

  • lol thats so easy i was alway;s thiking its so hard XD :)

  • Do you need the same cards to crossfire? And if so, does it have to be the exact same model, or can it be from different companies.

  • @Lardman678 You need the same cards to crossfire, it can be from different companies (like Sapphire or HIS), but it has to be the same model.

However, you can crossfire a 6870 with a 6850, so maybe you can do it with 2 reasonably similar cards as well.

  • @ciscokitty8

Thanks. I just crossfired my 4870 with a new 4890.

  • I'm concerned. I'm afraid I jumped into a crossfire configuration too quickly. I just pressed the confirm button on a second 5870 lol

So if I can't find the crossfire bridge with my motherboard stuff, where do I go to buy it?

  • @chronDiggity @chronDiggity Newegg

but it should come with your motherboard

  • @Standoman6546 mine didn't come with one. nor did my 5 others.

  • w00t, I finaly got it :D Thank you xD trolllllll

  • Wait wait wait... so i have a amd dimaond radeon 4670 and im getting a AMD Radeon HD 6950 is it possible to cross fire those? (THEY both have crossfirex support

  • @ianster0102 ..No no. They have to be of the same Architecture meaning 2 4670s or 2 6950's. Trash that 4670 and grab a single 6950 2gb. The performance per dollar is overwhelming. And a good number of them come with free games on newegg. I bought mine a month ago and it came with Dirt3 and DuesEx. I play bf3 on high settings getting high 40's fps! Not bad for a $250.00 card :) And if your goal is to crossfire, 2 of the 6950's do an amazing job! Just look up the benchmarks.

  • @mhallbach yeah.. im getting them at microcenter... and im getting 1 amd motherboard and 1 amd proccessor and with that comes bf3 FREE DL CODE (WOOH) so ill be able to play it! (if the offer still stands on christmas time)

  • 1:36 : a six pinaheight-pinaheight ! :D

  • Mate id put the HIS Radeon 6850 where the other 6850 is, It has a better cooling mechanism than the old 6850. and the older one has less fan rpms.

  • Hi do they have to be exactly the same cards...because i want another ati 4890 card but one of them is a powercolor and the other is just a standard ati 4890 would these cards work together?

    thanks

  • With crossfire, can your PC handle better games?

  • This has given me more info than 2 months of research

  • two questions

    1) we will need 2 16x PCIe lane on MoBo

    2) where will we plug the vga connector

  • Thanks i know the general idea how to do it but this helped a lot ^_^

  • Ok sooo....if I have a sapphire 6950 and a XFX 6950. Can i mix them both?

  • @Reconseal4050 if there clocked at the same level, you can.

  • what about not getting a crossfire bridge with my card or mobo

  • @xTheDevilinsideUx not possible. all ATI cards come with them in the box. unless you bought it used then you should have got it from the previous owner. in which case you can buy them from Newegg, Tiger Direct and so on.

  • The video cards do not have to be the same in CrossfireX, but they do in SLI.

  • do i plug both gfx cards to my monitor or just one?

  • @Niqbal87 just one.

  • Why don't you just put the 2nd graphic card in the third slot?

So theres more space between the cards

  • @FevKrimezz Because slot 3 is propbably x 8 not x 16

  • So this is going to allow me to game faster and on Higher settings?

  • so ive got crossfire running never done this before but besides plugging in the bridge do i have to do anything else when i turn on th pc or is it ready to go? if it matters its 2x 6970s

  • Do you have a tutorial on how to overclock CPUs and GPUs?

  • You don't HAVE to have the same video cards for xfire. check amd's site for compatibility, also if your board has x16 and x8 or dual x8 crossfire will work equally well as if you had x16. Cards do not yet have the bandwidth to limit x8...by a noticeable amount.

  • Have a single 6850, seriously considering doing crossfire. Any other tips?

  • I'm glad I found this video.. I'm a n00b when it comes to PCs.. I just know the basics.. *Where to put stuff to get it working* lol... Crossfire i've never done before I have been thinking of doing CrossfireX with it by Christmas..

  • Is Xfire a plug and play situation if youve had one card in already and are just upgrading with a second?

  • This guy's accent makes it even more interesting

  • @b1z2a3 he's British. You guys from America are talking with an accent :P

  • I want to crossfire two hd6970's. altho i am worried about the gap between the cards, judging by the mb i think they will be roughly 5mm apart from each other if that. Should i be concerned about this or are reference design cards designed to crossfire like this? What can i do? maybe buy another mb with wider slots?

  • @oODubKiwiOo I know a couple people who have crossfire 6970's. They seem to work well. They get ridiculously high fps on all games they play.

  • so if i have a crossfire setup, how can i overclock both to at the same time, to the same speeds? or is it the case of overclocking one, then flashing its bios to those clocks, then flashing the 2nd card to the same speeds. so they are both flashed overclocked

  • do a google image search for "crossfire compatibility chart".

  • so its alright if its two different brands, as long as theyre equal power? (for example, an HIS 5770 and a Sapphire 5770 would be fine, right? i just wanna be sure :P)

  • @StephanieRoze yes, as long as they are the same chipset the manufacturer doesn't matter

  • @ccpillow ok, thank you :)

  • @StephanieRoze yes mate, aslong as they are the same model, eg 5770. it doesnt matter what brand it is, amd, xfx, asus, his. they are all still ati 5770's..

  • could you possibly tell me how much power i would need for 2 6790's in crossfire.

  • @easilyamusedcinema 1000W needed, thats problem with all crossfire setup, huge power requirements

  • @UltraPrism thanks

  • My mATX mobo can run xfire but i swear theyd be touching if i got another 6870 id would have to wedge somethign in to keep them apart. im considering a radeon 6850 single slot card thats out then i would be able to run two cards just my 6870 would adjust to basically a 6850. but was wondering if i were to buy anotehr sapphire 6870 is there a way to take off the plastic and just have it sittingin there? it would allow for more airflow witht eh 2 cards and would have to downgrade my 6870.

  • thanks you answered my dumb question i had. if the cards had to be the exact same manufacure. that they can be different as long as they are the same card model ex. two 6850 reguardless of who made it. thanks so much.

  • do you need to install any crossfire drivers or does it install them for you?

  • THanks =D Just what I was looking for :>

  • I have a Radeon HD 5850 already in my computer. It's great, but I don't get the FPSs I want playing modern games at the highest settings. Crossfire config seems the way to go, but I can't find another 5850 anywhere. Is it absolutely necessary to have two cards of the same type?

  • hey all :) this maybe a silly thing to ask but can i use 2x ATI Radeon 6850 1028MB GDDR5 in crossfire ? with a 800w psu ?

  • @Amy01223 yeah should be fine concidering your 800w psu is a decent one? a cheap psu may say 800w but they never give out exactly 800w, so if your using a decent brand psu then sure, thats fine

  • I have a VERY similar motherboard, the spacing of the 16x pci slots (large ones) are the same, and i've got 3 aswell. Do you need to fit the 2 cards so close together? Or could you use the 3d 16x pci slot aswell?

    Plz help

  • @Caelistas 99% of motherboards have 2x pci-express x16 at the top two, then the 3rd is normally an 8x speed. which will make both cards run at 8x, so you wont really be gaining anything

  • hi there, can u crossfire HD5770 and HD 6770? thanks

  • i was given my computer for a gift (it was opened) and then i bought another 5770 card but i dont have any bridge cards :S

  • Just for those who don't know: Do not be afraid to have two cards in 16x/8x or 8x/8x bandwidth configuration. Apparently, downgrading from 16x to 8x has no measurable performance decrease, even in synthetic load scenarios, and even then it's very little. So having your two cards further from each other (assuming you've got a long enough SLI or Crossfire bridge) to help with cooling will not hamper your performance in any way, shape or form.

  • Another video said it runs faster with two bridges. Is that true?

  • @Dlewis0901 no

  • @Dlewis0901 most certainly not lol

  • @eteknix Didn't think so but seriously they were like " ya I made sure to have to bridges so they run at the correct speeds"

  • Another video said that it is benificial to use to crossfire bridges. Is that True?

  • This was extremely easy to follow. Favourited for future reference.

  • i only have one radeon card but i have a crossfire bridge how does that work?

  • hey can you crossfire like 4 hd 6990's............just askin.if that were done it would be AWESOME

  • @masterofnocrack that would require like 3000 watts lol you would have to get like a computer from nasa haha

  • @MLBson9

well easy just 3 separate 1000w psus with an 80+ rating.and a lot of wiring

  • @masterofnocrack dude the power and heatsink requirements on that would be insane

plus I don't think there's anything that would even utilize all of those.

  • Can you do this with totally normal graphics cards. Or does i have to buy a special one?. Like will i be able do dual Geforce gtx 480?. Of cause i have the slots in the motherboard and all that. But can i just buy 2 totally normal Geforce gtx 480 cards, and then crossfire them and it will work?

  • Thanks mate, very informative.

  • Will 2 6850s run battlefield 3 at the highest setting?

  • how do u know which video cards have crossfire bridge sots???

  • @TheMccinema The card will have a little connector on the top. Like gold contacts.

  • @eteknix but like name wise?? for example does it say anything saying that it has those gold contact? because i was looking online for one that has it but most pictures dont even show top of the video card? :\

  • @eteknix hey would 2 5450's 1gb ddr3 on crossfire beat 1 5770 1gb ddr5?

  • @eteknix can you run 2 graphics cards without crossfire? or do you need it to link them, because on EVGA precision there is an option when o/c-ing that you can link the graphics cards.

  • @eteknix Can you make a video about Hybrid crossfirex setups

  • Comment removed

  • is it possible to have a ati 4890 and a hd 6870 or does it have to be the same graphics card?

  • @Adr3nalined

no two different cards can cross fire but it will be only as fast as two of the weakest card.like 2x4890 ...........i think

  • I was wondering if installing 2 graphics cards affects your CPU's temperature by any amount, I currently have a I5 2500k oc'ed to 4.5ghz and it can get close to the maximum temperature at times. But currently I have only one graphics card installed at the moment (HD 6870) and I wish to add another one.

But my cooling seems to be alright, I have a Phantom with all the fan bays occupied, except the 200mm side panel slot. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts?

  • @viperxeon Adding that 200mm side panel fan and readjusting your fan configuration so that the air flows in and out instead of all in would help a lot in most cases. I dont suggest adding anything else until the cooling is at a good temperature for the CPU nearly all the time. There are fan tips and tricks videos to help with a lot of cooling issues, there are sometimes even recommended configurations for specific cases online. Check before adding anything new to your case.

  • Hi i have a p67 mainboard and i seem to have a second PCIE slot below my HD6970 but it is very close and when i do install my card it will probably have 1cm between the two cards. Is this normal?

  • Crossfiring two 6950s tommorow. Hope it performs as well as people talk about.
