I have a 2007 yaris. It has never broken down, it takes me to work and to the store, it fits in small spaces, it gets great gas milage, it can bring furniture home from ikea, and it didn't cost very much. The yaris isn't flashy, but it beats taking the bus.

The ads are funny, but don't make me want a Yaris. So it's a car. Great. What sets it apart from the others in its price range? Nothing? Then why should I buy a Yaris?

That's the whole point. It's just a car - just like all the others in its class. Sure, they could play the marketing game of hyping up minor differences between other cars, but the average first-time car buyer can't tell cars apart - especially in a 15 second commercial. So Toyota is basically making fun of the advertising process of bullshitting consumers.

So what sets them apart? Honesty, perhaps.

@PMHSSOCCERno6 - I totally agree! Anyone who is actually interested in buying a car has half a brain to ask about its various features, let alone try and get sold on the extras by the dealer anyway. Commercials spend wayyy too much money and got totally overboard on featuring their products. It has OnStar and standard powerlock brakes? So do like 47 other models of popular cars. Just make the commercial short, sweet, and to the point and let me see what it looks like already. Love this!
