  • Of corse the wtc

  • The show is called big bigger biggest

  • I guess the other buildings only reused the major inventions, but didn't come up with something revolutionary.

  • Ita all about the engineers, geniouses behind these marvels, among which is Fazlur Kahn and Bill Baker

  • And Petronas Twin Towers (452mts) ??

  • @luisencor

    and the Empire State Building?

  • equitable life; fuller flatiron and the UN headquarters all were NEVER the tallest building in the world at any time.

  • athens has history and doesnt need unlgy building!!!!!!!!!!and it is a beatiful city becoz you can see the acropole from everywhere becoz of low buildings in new york is like a forest!!!!!!!!!!!!not a beatiful place

  • you can built a skyscraper in any city in the world, but that city will never have the magic or history of new york city!

  • What about the Freedom Tower?

  • Is there anymore of this. This kind dropped off.

  • yeah type in "burj dubai big, bigger, biggest"

  • WHAT ABOUT THE NEW CHICAGO SPIRE.

it gonna be the tallest building in da world

  • Chicago spire - 606m

    Burj dubai - 818m

  • Chicago Spire 610m (2000FT) not 606m

  • ok i was 4m off. its still nowhere near as big as the burj dubai and the spire looks shit aswell

  • Chicago Spire - beautiful though it may be - probably will not see light of day.

  • cut off your fingers, look at your hands.

  • Soon we will be able to see the Burj Dubai competed. What a great building! I can only to dream about seeing it in the real life. It's so disappointing.

  • Every time a new highest skyscraper has been built since the 1900's, there followed a world-wide economic recession.

  • yes,seems to be a circuit.On decadence follows

war and then poorness and brotherhood.

  • I've heard a similar statement. Everytime a country takes the worlds tallest building title, they experience a recession. Not worldwide though. Most recessions are region based.

  • He says seven ingenious inventions, but only shows two! Where are the other five?

  • "Where are the other five? (inventions)"

Well, he left out these likely candidates:

Steel framework with a curtain wall facade- eliminating massive foundations and 10 foot thick brick walls at the ground floor.

Electricity- early elevators ran on steam, engines- limited in many way.

Bessemer's invention with processing steel which made steel structures cheap and mass produceable.

Lastly, I would add steel piles and pile drivers to drive them to bedrock for foundations.

  • The roof, the floor, the stairs, the window and the door. There... can we watch the rest now?

  • @Dabu3 on National Geographic

  • @Dabu3 its not the full show

  • The narrator is wrong. Burj Dubai is estimated to be 800 meters. He said it is nearly half a kilometer tall(near 500m).

  • it will be at least 800m when it is complete. At its current level, it is near 500m. It was not complete when this was filmed, and still is not done.

  • fuck me that thing is big

  • where can I watch the rest of that doco? Very cool

  • interesting

  • Actually oil revenue in Dubai is already below 6%, so the majority of revenue is from tourism.

And was it the tower of Babel? Because its in the Middle East?

  • Not just tourism, they have a lot of companies and business's there.

It's like new york but warmer.

  • half a mile i thnik he meant not half a kilometre

  • Half a mile is 800 meters approx.

  • oh shyt thats HUGE

  • So, I'm not usually Biblical, but this is seriously the Tower of Babel. They don't even have a use for this building. The have a couple of hotels and a couple of offices, but the rest is pure show. And I can't imagine the nightmare these people are going to face when it comes to maintaining the infrastructure in that city. Their population is about the same as San Antonio or San Diego, so the tax base is meek. Right now they're just riding on oil, and when that runs out, they're screwed.

  • Hmmm... can you say Tower of Babel? IT BEGINS PEOPLE WAKE UP.

  • where are the rest?

  • I am terrified of elevators. This makes it a little easier to ride in one but i still hate them. I prefer to walk.

  • I will buy you a cup of tea at sky level, 200th floors at Buji Dubai. Enjoy your walk.

  • Lol long walk to the top of that one.

  • I feel the same, but with our luck, this system probably won't be in every building around. Knowing my luck, it will be in all the buildings I don't go into lol

  • lol WHEN the rope breaks... not IF the rope breaks... WHEN

  • These Arabs

  • The United Arab Emirates are cool....

  • they r alrdy planning a 1050m high tower in dubai, called Al Burj (engl: the tower)

  • Oh man. I just looked at that video and the Burj Dubai looks like it's twice the height of Tapei 101. I've been up Taipei 101 and that things is HIGH. I can't even imagine how high the Burj is going to be. ^^

  • Burj Dubai?

  • yeah, i had the same response. never heard of it until now.

  • Are you serious? Where have you been living the past few years? Dubai is the site of ALL the world's most amazing new buildings and construction projects.

  • i'm soon learning that. i've been doing a little research since i watched this vid.

oh, and to answer your question, i've been living in Minnesota. is that a good enough excuse? LOL

  • Dubai is fast becoming such a playground for the world's wealthy it's crazy. I really want to go there in a couple more years. As to Minnesota as an excuse -- I'll take it! Haha.

  • Thats no excuse! Minnesota is one of the smartest states. Maybe your just special.

  • fuck minnesota

  • Geez chill out what did minnesota ever do to you? Freeze your balls off?
