The only reason life expectancy was 37 in the 1800's and 20 a thousand years ago was due to infant mortality, if you actually made it into childhood you'd live as long as you would today.
we there were higher chances that you'd die along the way from simple things as infection, or pneumonia but indeed infant mortality rate were far higher back then
@BeerHombre - I just find it strange how we all marvel at science and technology yet fail to appreciate the billions of pieces of data stored within say the seed of a Sequoia sempervirens tree - which has codes on how to transport water from the ground up to heights of nearly 500 feet - the greatest forms of genius are found within nature yet we do nothing but tread on them to perpetuate our own forms of what we believe to be superior genius.
I think that what he's talking about is making a copy. What we really need is to use nanites to replicate the way our body replaces cells. This would allow this instance of ourselves to continue existing by replacing the inferior natural process.
@ktw5086 This has NOTHING AT ALL to do with communism. The REAL questions.
1 Can we produce ABUNDANT food, water, energy, etc for everyone or not?
2 Do we have the technology to automate most of the work or not?
If no, prove it.
If yes, 'money for labor' is OBSOLETE. So the only logical system is to produce abundance and just distribute it. There can only be force when there is NOT enough for everyone, ONLY with abundance EVERYONE is FREE. GET IT.
@dontblockmedk A resource based economy seems to be the most logical system for a sustainable future. Although I support the Venus Project I do see some "problems". I think everyone will integrate into a matrix like system instead of actually living real life. Also I see nihilistic terrorists causing a Big Brother like presence to be necessary (I know that police isn't even in the plans right now). Peter Joseph isn't infallible; Jacque Fresco isn't God; and 9/11 WAS NOT AN INSIDE JOB!
@oshory Nothing is perfect but this is WAY better than any other system I have heard. Don't you agree?
Terrorists and big brother are symptoms of the current system. I doubt they will exist in the future, except inside a matrix style game (which some people would play but definitely not everyone) where they can't hurt real people.
The world belongs to everyone. The revolution is NOW.
@dontblockmedk Of course not everyone will integrate into a synthetic reality but I think a large number will. But I do think you are naive in believing that terrorists are a product of the current system. They are driven by other reasons that would not be resolved by any system including the RBE. Stop kidding yourself. I think for the movement to be successful, we are going to need to be a little more realistic about the transition and law and order. Btw I read JF's books and seen PJ's movies.
@napoleonseven Yeah, I'm not sure I buy his blase assumptions. Certain kinds of technology have been expanding exponentially but many other important things such as natural resources & energy haven't. In fact on a per capita basis they've been declining for decades. You can't eat information technology and it won't run your car.
wow what an amazing interview, interesting, funny and compelling. O&A is the the most well rounded form of entertainment in the world for whatever my worthless opinion means.
Jimmy and Ant manage to be funny without stepping all over Kurzweil, which is no small achievement. And surprisingly, if you like understated, dry humor, Kurzweil is pretty funny, like when he's talking to Jimmy: "Does that work?" and then "You're going to the wrong parties," and later, "I retired when I was 5."

"Money/market" is ROOT of problems, how do we:
1. stop corruption caused by profit motive?
2. ensure everyone has minimum necessities?
ANSWER
1. FREELY Share ALL resources & knowledge worldwide, NO more money/property
2. Use LATEST technology to create an ABUNDANCE of all our needs, NO more waste/theft
3. Automate/localize ALL production and distribution, NO more central control/wage slavery

We don't need to view your movie to see your point. All we need do is open a history book and read about the Soviet Union.
Gotta love 21st Century Marxism.
