He is a genius, But he must stop with this song to craddle elves , dwarfs 0:26 and little fairies. For God, for my lucky day the part of the reentré of Candice Night was stripped. Thanks.
Let´s do a campaign> Richard Hugh Blackmore, come back to ROCK & ROLL / BLUES.
The only guitarist I've heard Blackmore praise was Beck. In my mind Blackmore has always been "the man to beat." He is just too talented. Want Gilmour's "Time" solo? I'm sure Ritchie could deliver even extra goods. He just has proven to me time and time again to be the master. Oh yes, there's Hendrix. But Ritchie is right there. A man doing what he does best at the highest level. I do envy this dude's ability. Much of it is classical. But as I've learned, that is one helluva place to start.
Ritchie Blackmore is the only musician that I can (and do) listen to everyday and never get tired of it. So much varied music and styles. Endless talent and plays with his heart and soul...... Play on Ritchie, play on !!
Still one of the BEST GUITARIST in the world !!! He has been my hero and is why I started playing when I was 8ys old. And lucky for me he lives the next town over and I got to meet him in stop&shop in front of the cat food...And I was not let down after meeting my HERO!!!
@beannie60 So you met Blackmore at stop and shop? Buying cat food no less. that's funny, cause you don't think people in show business have normal lives, yet here is one of rock's Masters-of-Guitar in a supermarket buying cat food for his pet just like any regular shlub. whatever do you talk about with a guy like Blackmore standing in a cat food aisle? ''how about that solo in Child in Time Ritchie, how'd you do that?'' ''have you spoken to Gillan lately?''
@repetitivemotion I was with my doughter at the time and I was shocked I didn't know what to say other then asking if he was Ritchie Blackmore and he replied with ( yes and shook my hand ).With the could've would've should've I'm just happy to have meet him at all.
@beannie60 That would have been pretty cool; I don't know if I could say anything to him for loss of words. I know how much privacy means to so many and especially to Ritchie.. I'd probably grabbed something to buy then waited in line behind him and started talking about the freaking gas prices or something not giving away that I knew who he was. Or probably just stood there and went daa
In my opinion Ritchie is both technically and style wise the most versatile player of his generation. He introduced classical elements to rock music, he was the master of live improvisation, he played arpeggios back in 1969 when most player didn't even know how to spell "arpeggio", whether he plays blues, funk, rock, heavier stuff or the acoustic he is simply the master of guitar.
And the non-technical part... Well, let's say that Malmsteen, in all his skill, will never reach his idol.
There is no best guitarplayer, there are many good players and some are better at one aspect of playing then others..but in the end it's about the music and the love for it. Sure people have their favs.. and thats cool.. but there is no best... Sure there are guitarists who had major influence on different kinds of music..Hendrix..Zappa..Blackmore and many more, some names most people don't even know..
Lets enjoy what they do and how it can make you feel and not argue who's best ;)
@lokey440 well said mate i mean page, JH, blackmore etc.. all great guitarist but i enjoy the music they produce just cant stand the people who have to make a competition out of whos the best honestly cant anyone enjoy music nowadays
It's a shame Blackmore never played any acoustic during his Deep Purple years one can only image with his skills and Gillian at his peak the masterpieces they could have produced
Not to big a fan of Blackmores Night, but I love Rainbow "the Dio years" and Deep Purple. Aside from that, this some master playing by a true "artist"!
In my opinion Ritchie invented shred playing in early 70´s (maybe even earlier). There are old recordings that are historical proof that sweeping and fast picking was quite normal to Blackmore. He does not have to use those tricks anymore. Malmsteen didn´t add anything really different or new that Ritchie haven´t already played especially in live concerts more than 10 years before.
Awesome!!!!.........repetitivemotion, I absolutely agree with you!..........I've allways been a Blackmore fan,and for years I didn't hear anything from him,and now I'm again a lover of his style of guitar playing!......
MY GOD... UNF*CKIN' BELIEVABLE! Man, he's never stopped growing... Better and better and better the longer he's alive... Amazing guitarist - just amazing...
Let me start by saying I enjoyed this very much. Ritchie is an artist and a very expressive guy. I have to respond to the guy below who placed Malmsteen and Roth in the same category. Anyone who has heard Uli-Jon Roth in detail knows he chooses notes carefully and isn't guilty of the same kind of monotonous self-indulgence as Yngwie Malmsteen. I just felt that had to be said...
A brilliant musician and guitarist - and that was a beautiful piece of music. Way better than Yngwie Malmsteen's acoustic improvisation that sounds like someone twanging elastic bands
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ho fucking hum. The man should be far better after so long. No one gives a shit any more. It was Deep Purple or nothing. He left, dropped his hat; Steve Morse picked it up and Deep Purple haven't looked back. Morse has the kind of talent that Blackmore can only dream of and it certainly shows here. Do you really like this shit?
@beeroosterm - So if he was still with Deep Purple he would be a better musician? Would he be playing different music if he was with Deep Purple? No he wouldnt, his style of playing would remain the same, the difference would be he would probably be playing an electric guitar. Deep Purple haven't looked back?? Thats all they do!
I love Richie and I think his last band is natural development of great musician.Deep Purple were great but nothing is forever.Rainbow too!Rock is not the only style of music. He is just moving forward.Brave people are doing that. Not for money, but just for what he feels he want to do!
Where was the guitarist who used to look up onstage playing a guitar heavy tracks crying and then ended up dying on that guitar against an amplifier three parts?
Ritchie shows another side to his great playing! When I hear people try to put Ritchie down cause he doesn't shred like Malmsteen or Roth I cringe. Shredding isn't music or art, but merely a small part of what can make up a proper solo. Guitar playing should always be about making music, and music is emotional, not mechanical. Here is where Blackmore will always beat the other great guitar players in my opinion. He is one of, if not the best at putting true emotion into his playing.
@janderson2000 it wasn't meant to be a criticism, but i've seen other posts on this site that called Roth a shredder, perhaps because he can play very fast and clean. he certainly could be classified as a neo-classical guitar player, which is one way people describe shredders. i like Roth's playing and think he is a most talented guitarist.
yes indeed every word you said is ture i was about to say exactly the same thing , to me and many who'd lived in the late 70s and during 80s ritchie is one of the most ever rock ,heavy metal , Rn' Roll, Rn' B, blues, neo classical and baroque musical icon and the greatest guitaritst I 've ever known
@repetitivemotion You hit the nail on the head with your remarks! Richie is one of the great innovators and so many tried to copy his style without any of his creative genius; just an empty shell....we need to appreciate musicians for what they brought their field and not just for pyrotechnical displays of speed...music is like a conversation it must be a two way process with spaces to breath...not machine gun fire of notes.
Blackmore is one of the best guitar players I saw live (others: Yngwie, Gilmour, Beck, Petrucci,...and...no joke - Keith Richards, he was soo great, not only the technical thing, Mac Laughlin, de Lucia...) Blackmore has "magic", thats it!
This is probably the only case where I think someone shouldn't have pursued his life ambition and stayed with what he was doing. I mean his performance is great in this band but I enjoy what he did in Rainbow far more then this.
