This was a great game for it's time and is still heaps of fun to play all these years later. I have never experienced any flaws with this game and i've been playing it for a good 20 years now.
This was a nice presentable review but I think you were too harsh on bringing down this game. Solid animation, catchy music and comfortable gameplay make it a 10/10 in my book.
Compare this game to something like ''Alex Kidd High Tech World'' ahhhh! There's a game you want to crush with criticism.
(2/2) I think you were too harsh on this game. At the risk of incurring your wrath, I'd suggest that this is because you're just not that good at it. You even admitted you can't complete the first 3 levels - which, by the way, does not qualify you to review the game in my opinion.
@ACRetro i think your comments are fair. i do have have regrets with this review, i should of played it past the first 3 levels and i should of gone into a lot more detail about the things's i disliked. but im planing to do a series review of the duck trilogy (luck dime caper, deep duck trouble, Quackshot) so on my 2nd try of reviewing this i will do it right and address everyone's comments. thank you for comments :D
@davidhass3lh0ff Thanks for taking my comments the right way - I might've sounded a little cutting myself, but only because I just love this game. Subbed!
(1/2) I can't agree at all with your review. Your implied criticism of the developers doesn't seem to take into account the context in which the game was developed - this would've been developed on a fraction of the budget a comparable title by today's standards would be developed on, not to mention aimed at a different demographic and with more modest sales forecasts. Neither can I agree that jumping is flawed in this game; I manage perfectly well.
The jumping is stiff, but you learn to take it for granted after you've played a game such as castlevania, which has WAY stiffer jumping controls, but suits the environment well.
@retrogamingfanatic thing is castlevania would not be castlevania with out the stiff jumping system and the game isent realy about jumping it's just one aspect of it as with the luck dime caper most of the game is about jumping and for that to work the jumping system has to be solid but forgiving and fun
The game seems not bad at all. I don't see any of the issues you are talking about. Many of your points seem to go against with what your game play footage shows.
@Bob0p if you watch the game/play in this you can see in my jumping i coould not make any moment in mid jump and had to make sure i was in the right spot befor i jumped, but i do see your point, i stand by my review but i could of make my points more clear. i couldd not realy show this games problems in the gameplay fottage not without playing badly lol. thanks for your feedback
WOW talk about nostalgia! I remember me and my dad playing this game all the way back in 1993/4 when I was a young. The music and everything is so memorable although I have to agree, I think I got as far as the third level in that sort of tomb but never any further. It's a hard game indeed. If it wasn't for that one majhor flaw it'd be another fantastic Disney classic. You should check out Quack Shot for the megadrive!
@AydanWatkins im planning on fining and playing a many disney/sega games a possible im thinking it could make for a cool vid, i think i was a bit hard on this game but glade you agree and if it wasn't for jumping system this game would of been so much better.
I actually like the music in this game.....well I usually find myself saying that lol. So I am Mappy and you are Batman, pleased to meet you I finally found your name after all these years lol.
Nice video mate. What a shame they couldn't get those last little bits right, it could have a been one to rival Wonder Boy, to which it seems a bit similar too. Nice graphics also.
@theretrogamesnews wonder boy is a classic and plays way better this this, your right a few tweaks and this game would of worked :( yep the graphics ant half bad ;D
Interesting review. Yes there are lots of cool games out there in the Retrospective gaming era that are frustrating as heck! Great review and personal game play experience with this game. Well I finally changed my NES system to Region free and will do a review on that Pal nes cart you sent me soon. Loved the Batman quickie dress up, very cool and looks great with the shirt.
I would need to try this out and compare but this games jumping controls remind me a lot of games like Journey to Silius in which you cant control your momentum like you can normally in a platformer. Still I think these controls would do horribly in a game that was mainly a platformer and not a more action oriented game with some tricky platform elements like Journey to Silius.
@TheRealAceofOpus that a good point ;) i dident mind the jumping system in Journey to Silius you still had control but you had to take in the momentum factor when you made jump's and that added to the challenged and fun :D but a game like mario or this you need a very forgiving jumping system and this game doesent have that and might be the reason why no one talks about it :o
@Afr0Blu3 i never played this as a kid but the good thing about being an adult playing this now is i cant use bad word's when i get pissed at this game LMAO XD
@retrogamingfanatic apart from the jumping aspect and a few other faults it could of been a great game but thats my point of view. cool when i get a chance later i will check out your review on this game :D
Shame you didn't like this one. I've watched a few of your reviews and I think this is the first time you've not given the thumb of approval. :(
I played it on the Game Gear - it was a present when I was really young (I think I was 6 years old at the time). I do remember it being tricky but I did manage to beat the game back then with a bit of practice. :)
I definitely agree that it is quite a challenging (and frustrating) game, though and not for a more casual gamer.
@AtsumaKarin it was a shame i relay wanted to like this game and i must of played it for a mounth non stop but i could never get over the jumping aspect of this game. most of the time i like what i review but once in a blue moon i do give a thumb's down.
Great review! Never played this one, but would like to give it a go if I ever come across it. Graphically it looks great! Jumping mechanics should be in order for a platformer though, shame they aren't here :(.
@HalfBlindGamer i cant fault the graphics but the jumping aspect of this game is the only thing realy holding this back :( this game does have other faults but i dident want to nick pick as every game has it's faults.thanks man :D
I got this with a game gear bundle I bought a while ago. Pretty fun, but very difficult, I think I'll try and get this when I get a Master System as the game gear screen size adds to the challenge
