@nondescriptman the acting is pretty stilted by Lurie and Waits. But watch Benigni's as he presses his face against the bars around 1:20. It's brief but his expression is very deep, showing real sadness of regret. It's hard to see on this clip. A lot going is on behind those eyes in that moment. This scene is obviously to show cases Benigni's brilliance, albeit around some "bad acting" by those other hacks :)

@nondescriptman : Try "Deadman" with Johnny Depp. You won't believe it. Surreal. Again, ridiculous and wonderful. The cast is extraordinary. Check it out. Disagree with you about the acting... improv ... Jim Jaramusch, man. One cool film.

This has been an excellent movie,one of my favourites of all times. I recall the first time I saw this movie I was really impressed with it, I would say impressed like with no other movie around for a longer time, splendid humor, great cast, five stars for the movie. Jim Jarmusch is genie.

This is my favourite Jarmusch film.

I saw "Night On Earth" in Hiroshima-naturally with Japanese subtitles.

Funnily enough, I enjoyed the parts that were in Roma and Helsinki-I couldn't understand what they were saying, but I got the jiste.

The Ryder-Rowlands vigniette I thought blew big time.

if i'm not mistaken, no. Down by law and coffee and cigarettes are his only jarmusch movies. John Lurie (to the left) is in his movie "Stranger Than paradise" and Roberto Begnini (middle) is in "night on earth" and "coffee and cigarettes"
