So David Lemieux just knocked out Camacho Jr. at the last second of the FIRST round! Imagine if David were to get a fight with Andre Ward? Ward is the top dog above weights Pacman or Floyd Jr. can fight at and Lemieux has let only one guy off the hook from knock-out in his meteoric career - Imagine if he knocks out Ward? Thumbs up to see Ward fight Lemieux!
@sgsfightclub Ward would school Lemieux how? David has fought 24 pro fights, won them all, and has knocked out 23 of those 24 guys- He deserves a shot at a big name guy like Ward. C'mon - Ward fights Sakio bika next - Bika has lost 4 times - in his last fight he was Disqualified! Now ask yourself what's a better fight? Ward vs. bika or Ward vs. Lemieux? Guarantee you this - Nobody has been able to even remotely "phonebooth" Lemieux like Ward likes to do so I would expect a hell of a battle.
@trainlinezoo Andre Ward is a totally different skill level than David Lemieux and would knock David Lemieux out with ease in 6 rounds or less. Let's not get carried away here. It's one thing to fight a Hector Camacho Jr. who has wasted his talent due to lack of training and a love of eating - who's fighting way too heavy and is past his prime. Fighting a serious Ward - who will always be in shape and is a world champion in his prime - is a whole different story.
And Camacho didn't take this fight because he believed he was going to win - he needed the payday. He would get more for fighting the popular Lemieux in Canada than he could for any fight in America since he was undeserving of a big fight in America. Lemieux's team wanted an impressive win over a named opponent for Lemieux's resume, so it worked out for both fighters. Camacho got a much-needed payday and Lemieux got an impressive win over a famous name which can generate him some hype.
@comedicstuff Thats one of the very few things professional boxing offers to us fans and students of the sweet science....There is no way to say for sure who wins which match. Ward 22-0 59%KO. DL 24-0 96%KO. By the statistics, ward is the underdog. Whichever fighter wins between these two is instantly a Mega- PPV hero. I would bet that at this point DL has many more fans than Ward does and if they fought in Montreal Ward has got to win by KO. Never say a Canadian fighter can't win. It's silly.
@trainlinezoo Of course Lemieux would have a small chance against Ward. Even you or I would have a small chance against any boxer in the world. Forget the KO% - if Ward fought the guys that Lemieux fought, Ward would have a much higher KO% too. It's the level of competition. Ward started out fighting a higher level of pro competition than normal, while Lemieux was moved slowly and carefully in as far as the level of competition. Does Lemieux have a good punch? Yes. So does Ward.
The difference is that Ward is a better fighter than Lemieux. That matchup would be like a great pro against a good amateur. Ward probably wins every round - so if he couldn't win a decision in Canada - just chalk that up to cheating by the judges. Otherwise, Ward pitches close to a shutout and probably KO's Lemieux. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm not new to this game and fooled by "stats." Even Butterbean had great stats and he could only fight 4 rounders - due to handpicked opponents
The people that make the odds WOULD NOT make Lemieux a "favorite" based on his inflated "stats." Ward would be the favorite - even if the fight was scheduled to take place in Canada. Lemieux's status in boxing is still below Ward's as a fighter, even if Lemieux can draw more fans in Canada. Write into any boxing website - Boxingalk, Maxboxing, SecondsOut, etc. - and ask the writers who the favorite would be in Canada or otherwise and they'll all tell you Ward.
@comedicstuff yeah where is Butterbean now? I'm all into what you're saying about Ward - I'm not convinced but i get your level of boxing experience blah blah blah. There is almost 5 years age difference between Ward and DL, they're fighting in different weight divisions and Ward's future has fighters like Bika, Johnson and Bute just waiting for him. Imm onto the Lemieux vs. Pirog banwagon now....LEMIEUX vs. PIROG!!!
@trainlinezoo Butterbean retired from boxing. His final record was 77 wins 8 losses 4 draws and 58 wins by KO. That's 89 fights. You don't expect boxers to fight forever, do you? Yeah, Pirog would be a solid matchup for Lemieux and would definitely show if Lemieux is for real. Pirog just exposed Danny Jacobs. It would be an interesting fight and Pirgo probably wouldn't turn it down since he needs to exposure and Lemieux is currently the right match at the right time for Pirog.
Pirog is a MONSTER!

A fight with Lemieux would also show the world where Pirog stands. It would help to show if Pirog's a legit champ or a product of good matchmaking.
