I have been to all (5) of the Disney Magic Kingdoms. The Haunted Mansion will always be my favorite. The best is in Disneyland Paris (Phantom Manor). Too bad Hong Kong hadn't built one yet when I was there. I hear it is going to be be different than the traditional US and Japanese mansions. Phantom Manor is without a doubt Disney's best dark ride. I can hardly see what Hong Kong and Shanghai Magic Kingdoms will come up with.
Uh, wow, this is way scarier than the American version. The Haunted Mansion is like "Batman Returns", and the Phantom Manor is like "The Dark Knight."
<3 Vincent Price... he has such an amazing voice! I wish they would have made him record the Ghost Host tracks for the American versions of the ride... they might have still been there. :/ Ah well...
And also, when you see the room stretching your actually going down, they build the ride underground because the house you see is too small to fit everything in :L
When they're in the chamber now i finally know what he's saying!! Everytime me and my family go (we go to the Paris one) its always in french everytime, but now i no what he's saying!! Thankyou haha :)
The opening shots are actually my favorite parts. I actually am not a big Haunted Mansion fan, but Disney's attention to detail and gorgeous designs makes it worth while to just view the cue and the inside. :)
Now they only use the french version in the stretching room. But hey, here you are in France, not in the us. They are right to use the french version. Europeans more love the macabre in a haunted house than the funny versions in the US or in Tokyo. That would never have succeeded in France...same with Space Mountain without loops or launch and even then is Phantom Manor the least macabre haunted house across Europe, but a beautiful one.I am pleased that Europe didn't received a traditional house
the first time i went on this i cried and had a panic attic so my mom had to bring u out 1/2 way through it u would be amazed at the amount of staff hiding beside the props :L
Rien que le décor angoisse, il faut dire utiliser la maison d'un film d'horreur pour faire cette attraction c'est bien trouvé. Même la musique fait peur.
i was 6 when i was there and it was fantastic i wasn't scared at all it was just amazing to see all the effects and the whole show now i'm 20 and i will do this once again but i'm afraid it will scrae me now
I am a huge Phantom of the Opera fanatic so to have one of my favorite rides in WDW be inspired by POTO for Phantom Manor in Disneyland Paris is amazing! I can't wait to visit someday. I love the new re-orchestrations, it sounds so beautiful and lush! :)
Past november I had a quite special experience on this ride. I was with only three other guests in the elevator and corridors of the Mansion. It was already after dark... It added an extra dimension to this great ride!
@populargal124 I actually went on it and thought that the one in Anaheim was way better than this. Plus the ride isnt in English anymore and if you dont know the story you are a little confused of what is going on.
@populargal124 Well, actually, the major influence for the story of the ride was the novel, The Phantom of the Opera, which was altered to set in a Western setting.
Looks OK....Vincent Price doesn't really sound right as narrator...the original narrator was totally better. Grim Grinning Ghosts owns the music in this as well.
I FINALLY get to go to Dinseyland Paris!!!!! I've never been there before and I usually go to Disneyland (the one in Anaheim) because it's a 6 hour drive from my house (I live in San Jose, CA)!!!!!! This is seriously a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me!!!!!!!!
@populargal124 If only you had gone sooner. King's Island, Ohio used to have something like that. It was changed into a cruddy Scoobie Doo ride. Look it up on Youtube, some people still have videos from when it was active. It was called, "The Phantom Theater".
@TheAmericanMedley Yes !!! it's Way scarier and longer and Better than the haunted mansion.....it's an improved version with a storyline....it's actually sait that phantom manor is the best dark ride ever created....
Even though I've never been to Disneyland Paris and experienced this ride, I can't say enough good things about this video. The camerawork is excellent, and the audio is flawless! I just wanted to say that Vincent Price was a wonderful narrator- his delivery was charming yet sinister. And his laugh was scary as hell!
This is a fabulous video, so beautifully filmed! No shaky out of focus pictures here! It's brilliant and especially so for people like me who haven't had the oppurtunity yet to visit Disneyland. Thank you. :D
@madmatter27 no way, they just improved the special effects on the ride, other than the library, the stairs scene, and the changing portraits everything is pretty much the same, The Phantom Manor is completely different story and it's only one story and it's about one family and one bride, the Haunted Mansion has more than one story to it because there supposedly had more than one family that reside the house, same relatives but different families
@populargal124 i kinda think it is a phantom of the opera ride. a haunted young bride and her father a living skeleton. vary based on the origanl phantom of the opera book but erik the OG is christine's teacther. but other than that it's similer
"There's always MY way..." The figure is the bride's father, holding the groom he murdered...
O.O This ride terrifies me a LOT more than the real Haunted Mansion, but I like the back story to it, even if it is depressing and scary. Poor Melanie. :(
The music is also hauntingly beautiful to listen to. I also like Vincent Price's voice.
I went on this 2 dayss ago in disneyland Paris, I went on this twice ann its not scary, theres no drops youu just go round in a small carrige type thing, the ride lasts about just under ten minutes including the talking time, Its not scary because I went on it && I dont like the ghosts ann stuff, it is pitch black only for 10 seconds, whenn i went on there the second time it broke downn twice for like 20 seconds- ishh (:
@the4xinsanity I believe you're confusing fear with surprise. The purpose of the Phantom Manor is not to simply jump out of the shadows and frighten you. It's to convey the story of a bride whose life ended tragically. The "scary" that you don't seem to appreciate is meant to come from the otherworldly atmosphere and a sense of foreboding, not from a cheap scare.
The reason I think this is so much better than other theme park haunted houses is that in them, you tend to get the same old Hollywood-ised Frankenstein/ghost stuff, but here you've got a truly atmospheric, chilling soundtrack and a backstory that relies heavily on emotions instead of gore/shock factor.
o____o I just realized I'm drawn to things with "Phantom" in the name. Phantom of the Opera, now this?!?! The first thing I will do at Disneyland Paris is go on this ride!
I would like Vincent Price's narration to be restored to Phantom Manor. The French translation used instead isn't linked to the storyline. Some of my friends never even realize it deals with a woman.
@TheAlexaChick Well, it doesn't have to be at Disney, right? Although, they would do a really, really good job with it seeing as they go all out with their attractions. Is it strictly Phantom Manor that's based on Phantom of the Opera, or is it all of the Haunted Mansions?
@ashcatash5 Sorry this is a bit late, but actually The Phantom of the Opera is a book by Gaston Leroux from 1911. This is what inspired the silent horror movie, and the famous Andrew Lloyd Webber Phantom musical :) So while the ride is still based off of the original in Walt Disney World, the story of this ride is inspired by the novel (also the musical in a way).
I bet they could pull that off quite nicely. Especially with the whole underground tunnel thing and the chandelier dropping...Damn, I really wish they would make a Phantom of the Opera ride :)
Dude a Phantom of the Opera ride would be SIICCK! Especially that bit you said with the chandelier dropping.. and there could be a shriek.. omg it would be amazing
@mickeymouse14 That's actually in Anaheim... but I'm surprised... a lot of people don't really know that. haha, I only know that from the DoomBuggies website... :)
I really liked this version. It is pretty much the same as the one at Disneyland in California, but there is more of a story about a bride in this one. I liked it.
@madmatter27 No, the storyline is much, much, much different.. but if you mean by graphics and stuff,, yeah it is. I love both of them, but this is deff my favorite just because of the darker aspect, storyline, and the beautiful soundtrack,
Vincent mother fucking Price ftw!!!!!

I bet they could pull that off quite nicely. Especially with the whole underground tunnel thing and the chandelier dropping...Damn, I really wish they would make a Phantom of the Opera ride :)

I really liked this version. It is pretty much the same as the one at Disneyland in California, but there is more of a story about a bride in this one. I liked it.

@tregnier279 i agree i have seen vids on the disney world version and i prefer phantom manor
Jm66100 2 years ago 4
@madmatter27 No, the storyline is much, much, much different.. but if you mean by graphics and stuff,, yeah it is. I love both of them, but this is deff my favorite just because of the darker aspect, storyline, and the beautiful soundtrack,
