Having said all of that, the final Roses gig at Reading 1996(with an almost unrecognisable line-up)is not the way to remember a band of this importance.
Judging by what both John Squire and Ian Brown have said in various interviews it's not going to happen anyway. And then there's the small matter of the fact that Brown and Squire haven't spoken since 1996 and look unlikely to do so any time soon. They'd be terrible anyway - anyone heard Brown's live singing lately? To say that he sounds like a foghorn is being just too kind.
thats the thing i loved about the roses..the intros.. they just grabbed you..god these were great times.. i wanna do them again.. minus the drugs... !!!!
i love how mani pops up every couple of months with the smell of the band reforming haha
The are all great musicians who came togethr at the right time an that was then this is now.....unfortunatley we have to put up with Lady Gaga and kanye west in the charts instead of The Roses :( which in my opinion in soul destroying.
@ianbrownshairdo Peronally i think your comments shit, but each to their own, The Who are jut as influential as the Stones, The Beatles etc, Without these bands along with buffalo springfield and the Clash, we might never of had the Roses.
This is a pure example of classic song structure, but innovative at the same time. "...I don't think you think like I do, no matter how hard I try...", pure Stone Roses....priceless.
Proof positive that this very well may be the best rock band since the beatles and the stones - this was originally a throw-away, as was Fools Gold - we may never see a band in our lifetime do what the stone roses did back in the 90's - some of the best musicians to ever come out of England....
Well its like this.....yes the stone roses are a really goo band...but just ask them if they were as good as The Who and they would laugh at you...The Who is past.present and future...no ones close blokes..and I am writing this from America...and I abslutely love englands gift of music
i hate the idea of the echelon of great classic rock bands--the beatles, the stones, the who, zeppelin, pink floyd, blah, blah, blah. americans, especially as encapsulated by rolling stone magazine, are enamored by this debilitating idea of the untouchable. the holiest of holies. the who's technical proficiency doesn't make up for the fact that they're a dully self-conscious band. regardless of what the roses would think, they blow them away in spirit, freshness and charm.
the rolling stones are better than the who, so are the beatles, led zeppelin aswell, don't get me wrong the who are good! but pete townsend isn't good enough!
Well i see you are an idiot...the stones?..beatles?...better than the Who?....ha ha...like ol P.T. said...a fool is born every minute....the Who has forgot more about music than these bands will ever know....but kudos to the Roses...a real good band
When I insist to my friends that the Roses are the best rock band ever they say "but they only put out two records and the Who.....blah blah blah." I tell 'em that the B sides alone if ever put into an actual album would be better than any of the BEST albums any other band has ever released! STONE ROSES FOREVER!!
I think the problem is your average person (even dedicated music fans) haven't really listened to the Roses. They might of heard Fools Gold or She Bangs the Drums and a few others, but they're clueless about the vast amount of material the Roses put out. Plus they don't know the circumstances the band went through - the court case and being banned from recording at their peak. I doubt any other top band has ever had that!
the very last thing they should do is reform . . . . leave it back in the early 1990's where it belongs and not let it become the sad cicrcus that was The Sex Pistols when they reformed . . . they would be a shadow of what they were . . .let them remain the iconic gods of a generation who can call them their own.
Drummers will drum till the end of fucking time and never even come close to how good Reni was ...the beating heart of, surely, one of the finest bands ever to grace this planet ...
best comment ever...Reni was the best drummer ever...as for the roses...well...best debut album of all time and there other early work was better than most bands do in 15 years if at all....Ian Brown is a also the musical genius with the least lyrical ability...absolute fucking genius and manchester legend.
Roses best fucking ever , desert island disk i would have the roses on a sound system work rest and play in paradise , make island home brew and some herb and fire bliss
What a fuckin band... the Roses had the fuckin attitude, the look, the tunes to take over the planet. They didn't, but instead left one fuckin amazing album and load of other magic songs. They didn't become a fuckin laughing stock like Oasis or The Rolling Stones. Any of you stupid cunts hoping for a reunion are deluded out of your minds... Brown ain't ever going tarnish the memory of the Roses to make a quick buck.
Classic song. The wailing guitar at the start sounds a bit like the opening of Rock n Roll Star by Oasis. I'd like to hear Squire play lead on a live version of that:)
Beatles,Zeppelin. It's all good but who they really remind me of the most is Pink Floyd. They've just got that mystery thing flowing like Floyd did. It's a wonder some rub-a-dub techno fook hasn't made a fake website just to shit talk people. You know, just to turn people off to The Stone Roses. They've been doing that to alot of U.K. bands from the 80's and 90's in the past few years.
Well, John Squire was the only one obesessed about Led Zeppelin (specially Jimmy Page). However, Second coming is a good album; not as great and revolutionary as the first one, but it is good anyway.
All of them are good. But listen to elephant stone and the sun still shines.
and champagne supernova was gud but it was about a fuckin sugerbowl.
standing here was about a lover who passed away and he stayed with his girlfriend forever as a spirit. So myzeri (whos from mexico) Dont tell me how fuckin music was written....
