2:42... He enters and walks the stage the same way he walks this earth.. as the greatest of them all.. Ladies and Gentleman, I give you..... Pat Metheny. -Standing ovation-
David Blamires - Lee Ritenour's doppleganger! I saw this show in Atlanta, and got to meet Pat, Paul, Gil, and the late Mark Ledford after the show. The were all very convivial and cordial, and Pat is the salt of the earth. I miss Led. He was a phenomenal musician and had a wicked sense of humor.
The best concert I ever attended was way back at The Hammersmith Odeon in London and Pat Metheny was the artist. November 1987. He had just brought out 'Still LIfe Talking' and played 'Last Train Home' at the end. Brilliant. There is something undoubtedly healing about a lot of his melodic pieces.
I don't know what is it about this song that always makes me feel better after hearing it. I mean, It's like heart healer for me. Very weird effect, but I love it.
I am not an Ecuadorian i am Polish and have such a different feelings when i listen to this song... remind me... my first love, first and the only one. Hope same music is in the other dimension...
One of the best memories of an evening with friends was a dinner party where the host played Metheny. I asked who was playing because I did not know Pat's music twenty years ago. The evening was good because of the company - you know, tears streaming over your face from laughter - but come to think of it, Pat was there too. How special. Thanks Paul in Johannesburg, I hope you're still around to love the sound.
I love the album version, but this version took my breath away! This is my favourite track of Metheny's Thank you for posting I would of loved to have been at this concert!
I am planning on seeing Orchestrion on October 8 in Englewood, NJ. As usual he will take me to places I have never been. That is what makes him such an outstanding performer, including the musicians and people he surrounds himself with. I am glad to be among them. Thanks for the post.
I've loved Pat..PMG since i was 10 yrs old.. I'm now 44...man i guess i had damm good taste as a youngster. Saw the Secret Story tour twice in 92...and i think i left my body during the show.
This Album is so beautiful, i've worn out 3 cd's of "secret story" THis cd makes me want to be a better musician, even though creating something this beautiful seems kind of impossible in my life time.
I grew up listening to this. Hehehe, I remember being kind of embarrassed becauseI thought my dad was SO WEIRD for listening to this. Me and my brother would make fun of it sometimes. But I did kind of like it at the time and now I listen to it and it gives me memories/makes me think. :3
Dark Side of the Moon...then came Secret Story, except I never saw Pink Floyd live. This I saw at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. It's like rubbing Tiger Balm® or ice on my... spine chilling performance Yes, the DVD was not up to Pat's standard(New Jersey performance, think somebody screwed up in the sound recording) so he did not officially endorsed it. Still, I would give it 9 out of 10 stars.....
I love so much this album (Metheny, Lyle and rest of boys) I also burst into tears almost every time I listen to this and other songs or close to it...and I am not Cambodian..I am Ecuadorian...it just remind me my mountains so beatiful and my indigenous lovely poor compasive kind humble people...tis could be a hymn to human compasion...peace:=) keep it soul!..
@capitansurfista My reaction is the same. There's this odd emotional response that brings tears to my eyes. It surprises me every time. I can decide if it's because the music is so beautiful or so hopeful.
Incredible beauty in this song. I've been to Cambodia, and every time I hear this song I can see the countryside again in my mind. I played this for some Cambodian country people, and I've seen them burst into tears the first time they hear it.
Spellbinding and diverse, Metheny's music transcends geographical and cultural barriers inspiring listeners across the planet. The Meth and his band rock!
i remember hearing this song the day it came out and thinking , what the HELL Pat...but damn if this song has not turned out to be one of many incredible indications of this man's genius. The fact that Ledford and Blamires can so closely emulate the sound of the choir is just amazing.
@PhilAroundhits Its not a PMG record. Lyle does play on a couple of tunes but not on this one (He does Facing West which I personally think could have been considered for Letter from home, Sunlight and he also plays on a song on the bonus disk.)
There are two keyboardists because there are just so many parts, this album is very orchestrated. Also, Lyle does that a lot too but he just uses sequencers for that stuff… Btw Metheny himself plays piano on some tunes (and very good too!)
Too, I remember calling TLOML, Robin, one day. She was in her classroom. Painting, after the kids had left. And she was playing this. omg. her and this song. life does not get better than than.
Thanks for the memories. Thanks for setting the mood in new mexico, calif. and now back in Texas. you have provided a soundtrack to my life and i am deeply in debt to you and yours. Buenos caminos, mi amigo estimado.
I love when he just quickly touches on the natural 3rd over a minor chord, great little trick. Whenever I do that when I'm playing I always think to myself, 'Ahh Metheny..."
Simply a musician who will go down as one of the greats. And who does have a heart. Secret Story, probably the best piece of music scored in the last 40 years. In my top three gigs ever attended.
oh god!!! this tune, with letter from home, last train home, as it is, gathering sky, first circle, and then i knew....are my favorites!!!. wow this is the first time i hear this tune and i could say... well i'm not sure but these oriental voices with dave blamires and mark ledford reminds me to india or somewhere else in asia.... it's so beautiful
