scappleby, you said The Bass thing is in heaven with Entwhistle & Pastorious? I was married to Rob (The Bass Thing), but in the '70's when I was a teen, I knew Entwhistle,& I can guarantee you, Rob is not friends with him, because John was not thin, attractive, nor amusing,& had mutton chops(he was nice, tho). He'd like Keith Moon. He was a fun guy back in the early 70's.But he's probably with Sid, who I went out with until he passed in my bed on Bank St. Who is Pastorious?
I love the Stuffies. I saw them in 1987 before they were big, at Leeds warehouse. They were supporting the Primitives, along with The Shamen when they were psychodelic. They came on stage and announced 'We're a bunch of wankers from Birmingham'.
Ive read some of your other comments posted and I feel kind of priviliged that you have replied to my comment. Was miles really a little Hitler?
I always thought that he looked as though he could be abit of a prima donna!! Saying that though the made some damn fine tunes. Cartoon Boyfriend and Piece of Sky being a couple of my fave ones. Am I right in thinking Piece of sky was about The Bass Thing?
Little Hitler and Prima Donna...You're right. A cross between the two, but more on the Prima Donna side. Like Hitler with a prissy attitude and hemmoroids.
I was married to Rob (the Bass Thing) and Miles was like the angry little dickless emperor. Like in the old movies with the angry eunichs? That was how he acted.
I am a stuffies fan going WAY back when they used to play the small venues before HUP sent them to the top of the charts. I am a bass player and always loved Rob's style and even tried to emulate him a bit with my playing. It was a sad sad day when he left the Stuffies, and an even sadder day when he died. I also loosely know Miles. He is nowhere near the Tyrant he used to be. It was never fun to watch him throw a fit on the stage. God bless Rob. God Bless the Stuffies.
Honey, I too could tell a story or two from my years working in hotels about "stars" behaving like little pricks. But it doesn´t really change anything. They are still brilliant artists that we all love and always will! Just like "The emperor".
My husband,The Bass Thing, didn't die on the 1st day of the yr, but on the 31st of July, about 15 yrs ago.I look at these vids,& he's alive again.Thank you.
you must have a mixture of sadness and happiness when you watch the old videos and footage. i loved the band and my memories are of fun times, especially when the stuffies played the barrowland.
loved hup, eight legged groove machine n neva lovd elvis Lps, lol, sounds weird now sayin Lps. One of em were in Neds Atomic dustbin 2.liked them nall.
AABINVESTIGATIONS contacted me, and sent me an email which I missed out on b/c I was out of the country. WRITE ME AGAIN! He said he used to work on the crew with my husband, The Bass Thing. Today is his death day. Happy Death Day, Rob. You are loved, and always remembered...
"HUP" is the overlooked gem in the Stuffies canon. Queue up "Let's be other people", "Piece of Sky", "Can't Shape Up" and "Don't Let me Down, Gently" The best 4 track string on ANY of their discs.
