It's not because they tried to get he most hp out of the block. Those chose the engine to be extremely simple. almost to the point you could think you could work on it your self. I do agree Ferrari can get more out of an engine than most american cars, however the viper is a bad example. They made the engine that way on purpose.
yeah its really difficult to spread hp and torque across the powerband of a small displacement engine. I'm merely pointing out that its possible to get that much hp from a small engine, not necessarily big
Jeremy Clarkson took the Caparo T1 off the lap time board. However, look at what Ben Scott-Geddes (the Caparo T1 designer) had to say: "...adjustable ride height and electronic active driver control systems which are standard on our production models." Though the Caparo T1 that Top Gear tested was at a final engineering stage and did not have an adjustable ride height, it would preform the same as one with it.
The Caparo they tested could not go over a speed bump and they removed it for that reason not for having slicks or not being road legal. But, as stated above the production model is able to go over a speed bump. Since writing my previous comment I have written to the BBC asking it to be put back on top.
What they said is that a car can't go on the power lap board if it can't run over a sleeping policeman.. They didn't put it on the board because it was so low!
Nice way to die though, I'd have the new 500bhp atom, largely because it has a boot (Kinda), but mostly it won't kill you in a corner and it's 2 and a half times cheaper...

He didnt say twice as much BHP in total - he said twice as much BHP per tonne. Veryron weighs about two tonnes and has over 1000 bhp , Caparo T1 prob weighs about 600 kg and has 580 odd BHP so it has more BHP per tonne (power:weight)

Only problem my friend is that the FXX can do that track a lot of times. Caparo has a 70% chance to never cross the finish line a second time. When it comes up to engineering a few brands can compare to a Ferrari. Untill this car gets on the road without thanking god once u get out of the car, then FXX is the hell.
Just so you know, its b(A)rabus. I would need visual proof of the Barabus TKR 0-60 in 1.67 seconds and its lap time would be around 1.18-1.20 depending on its weight, grip and handling.

It's not because they tried to get he most hp out of the block. Those chose the engine to be extremely simple. almost to the point you could think you could work on it your self. Incredible car, coz u cant really buy Formula 3 car, when its almost same car and even with 2 seats.
I can imagine how it would like to take your girlfriend to some ride, his scream may silenced even this "quite" engine)

Just so you know, its b(A)rabus. I would need visual proof of the Barabus TKR 0-60 in 1.67 seconds and its lap time would be around 1.18-1.20 depending on its weight, grip and handling.

The Barabus TKR only exists in concept. Its not going to be made and there is no real proof of it doing 1.67 to 60

so, it has the same 0-60 time as the Ultima GTR
the same 0-100 time as the Ultima GTR
Is approx 25 mph slower than the GTR
Is liable to kill you if you take a corner (unlike the GTR)
and costs 3x as much
not much competition is it ???
I would love to know what Top Gear has against testing the Ultima - It's a British car and a British show, you think they would bend over backwards to prove it's one of the best in the world.
