@NoVoiOvi Thank you for sticking with it and providing a testimony that these tricks are doable for people with small hands. The majority of questions I receive are in regards to having small hands. I am not the best at addressing these comments becuase my hands are relatively large. But we all have to work with what God gave us, right.
I'm finding it quite hard to break the cards in half with just my thumb, Also I think my hand is too small for the cards to get into that position at 1:04 =/ Because I can never get my index finger in-between the two halves and manage to leave a gap in the middle.
@Megoraxos Mego, check out one of my newest videos, it's a short one w/ two tips on this cut. The position at 1:04 is really about holding the two packets at an angle that fits your hands. You don't really need a gap in the middle, you just need to keep the top moving then pull it below, by pulling in on the index. Try breaking the cards near the top and then sliding your thumb to the bottom, like I do on the video. Then try breaking the pack at the bottom, and use which works best.
@cinnamongirlx1 Very cool to hear. Music is The Raconteurs - Steady, As She Goes .. There is a link to the music video in the top left hand corner at the beginning of the video. And they are WAY COOLER than the Pixies. lol
@4jacksFort thankyou so much . i love this song . i am getting a magic kit for my son for christmas . is there anyone you can reccomend ? is mind freak a good one ?
@cinnamongirlx1 I'm honestly not really good at the magic stuff. Presentation is such a big part of magic, some ppl have it. I don't. lol. How old is your son? A problem w/ Magic "kits" that I've seen are that they are super lame. The problem with the good magic is it's hard, takes a lot of practice and persistence.
If you son is around 12+ and likes magic and cards, I would really recommend "The Magic Book" by Harry Lorayne. Kinda hard to find though.
@mrbuzzbob123 I get a lot of comments from ppl w/ small hands. I have average to large hands, so I can't say too much. But there are lots of people w/ small hands who can pull these off. It takes much more practice. See my latest video for a good tip on doing the scissor cut with small hands.
@danteXI My hands are 7.25 inches from the base of the palm to the tip of the index. But I've seen many people with much smaller hands do this cut. I'm not the best for advice on small hands. But it can be done. Lee Asher does it, he has small hands.
@zhixzhix Yeah, I'm not sure if it has a name. Jerry C. may have called it something, it just slightly modified from his grip. Basically I keep my pinkie on the bottom all the time because that is how I square the deck (And it needs to be there for a few flourishes like this one!) And the thumb is more to the side in order to lift the deck into flourish position, or If I am dealing, to thumb off the top card.
@Rayz786 you mean the part where you square the deck with inbetween your index finger and your pinky? I use that for EVERYTHING. That is the best way to square the deck with one hand, it puts you right in position to do a lot of other one handed cuts. The problem is probably that you aren't use to using your pinky by itself too much. A lot of people can't move thier pinky without moving thier index finger, it takes a lot of practice. This shouldn't be too bad, just keep your index on the deck
The top packet doesn't go on top of your index finger. You index finger acts as a pivot so the edge of the top packet stays in contact with the side of the finger. After you have swung the top packet clear of the bottom packet, you curl your index finger (the top packet comes with it to go below the bottom packet) Then you swing the top packet under the bottom packet. Hope that helps.
That's a pretty cool adaptation. As long as you can do it smoothly, do whatever works for you. However, be aware, if you find something wrong with it later and it doesn't get smooth or transistion easily, it is very hard to "unlearn" something.
@4jacksFort ye i know, i remember i was doing something wrong when i was doing a full retention cut and i cant stop doing it wrong now, i killed the retention its just top and bottom instead of full :S
but this is working pretty good so ima keep it this way :D
Are you curling your index finger in? The only way I can duplicate that is to Pull too hard with the index finger.
Your index finger should pull down on the top packet in order to get it lower than the bottom, then you release the pressure on the index once the corner of the top packets gets turned under the bottom packet. If you Keep Pulling down the index finger goes underneath with it. But once the top packet is on the bottom, you don't need to pull anymore.
The problem that I have is that I can't seperate the packets enough. Even at an angle they still overlap. I can perform the Back Pack cut (poorly at mo) but I can't do this one. The only way for me complete this scissor cut is to split the pack and then as the top pack is twisted to about 90degrees (17.5 secs into video)I have to then move the index finger off of the lower packet (leaving it in the crook of the other 3 fingers) and then bringing the top packet back... Suggestion?!?!?!?!?!?!
Get to the point where you are at that 90 degree point, and just yank the top packet down w/ your thumb. You're index finger will curl in to hold on to it, and the bottom pick will just be pushed up against the side of your index finger. Just pull the thumb down towards the floor.
Well, you might want to 'clear up' about the so-called 'angle'. Either tell people that the 2 packets make a roof-like shape or something like that. Because I personally didn't understand what the angle means. :(
Pause the video at 1:05. When you are doing that part you will need to really have a 90 degree angle between the two packets. I tried to show that angle, becuase that is a common complaint. I have large hands and can almost do this part entirely flat. But with small hands just increase that angle!
yeah you can, make sure you are bending in with your index finger. Also notice the decks form almost a 90 degree angle with each other. A lot of people try to keep them flat which messes them up.
yeah, he's exposed so much magic, I just really don't want to have anything to do with that. I'm not a magician, but I think it's a really lame thing to expose magic that you didn't create
Thanks for the tutorial, i have to say; at first i tought my hand was too small, but after a while i learned the trick, somewhat :D

i tried and idk how its easier for me to somehow lift the bottom deck instead of pushing down the top deck :\ idk how but i did it^^

your fingers must really be long try -playing bass, lol. I can do one hand cut but can't get my pinky to compleatly obey on that one
sleepers1124 2 years ago
i'm trying to learn guitar, but I really kinda suck.
The pinky doesn't have to do much, just has to apply some pressure squeezing in on it's side.
4jacksFort 2 years ago
I can do the flip thing...but I can't cut the cards with my thumb lol, the deck just falls back into my palm lol
jabjab1234 2 years ago
So you can't do the very first part where you take the top packet off with the thumb?
Are you squeezing it hard inbetween the index finger and the pinkie?
4jacksFort 2 years ago
Yeah....OK, yeah I wasn't squeezing it hard. I'll try that. Thanks for the quick reply :D
jabjab1234 2 years ago
Is it normal that my index gets under the bottom packet during the "translation" ?

I've never seen that!

Ok. I need more practice to pull the top packet under. Oherwise my index is slinding under and places the card. Looks like a wrong way to do it.
Thx

right hand plz??

It's the same instructions, just mirrored video.
If you are right handed, you really should be learning this on your left hand first. That is the hand that holds the cards when you are dealing.

it's sooo hard to do when you have small hands... and fingers...

it could help the whole exposure thing.
