If you do decide to spalsh out and pay extra to fly Air New Zealand, then don`t be surprised if you end up on a completely different airline through the joy of code-sharing. Perhaps one where you could have brought the same ticket at half-price.
I don`t know how Air New Zealand can change Economy seating when they don`t even have economy tickets. Surely, when an `economy` ticket on air new zealand costs twice as much as a business class seat on Jetstar, it isn`t really economy. Just for example, return ticket to New Zealand from Tokyo, in July or August costs about $8000. Yes, eight thousand dollars.
OK I've got a question @6:54 when the guys are sleeping. What happens if the person in front of you have their seat Reclined like in normal economy seats? The Girl "in the video" would have the back of the seat in front of her in the face?? Isn't that a negligence in Design?
typical fat American couples won't be able to use this arrangement, and in classic styling they will sue for discrimination and civil rights violation.
Question... in the event of an emergency, how would the life vest be reached... based on that design, it is obvious that the extended foot rest lower section would some how prohibit getting to the vest with ease... unless the vest is stored in a new (area not mentioned) section...
A few years ago two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to see if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said "Get the kids and get out of the house, we'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue". The "clown statue" was actually a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this on 10 videos tonight the clown will be in your bed at 3:00am with a chainsaw in his hand. Sorry don't want this to happen to me
At least when something goes wrong in the air, the seat doesnt become a strap of death and people get to experience what its like to be in a washing machine :)
I flew to New Zealand and had a sky couch. It was ok. Seat belts are separate extensions that attach to the regular belt and then to an attachment point on the back of the middle seat in front of you. Not very comfortable to wear. Also, the seat belts on your seats poke you in the back while lying down. It was not too bad though, but much better for people who are 5'6 and under. At 6'2 I could not stretch out enough. also, the price was withing $200 of a business class seat.
The art is to provide as many seats as possible with the right balance of comfort vs economy.
Personally, I wouldn't mind just laying down the whole time. I'd eat before boarding and just nap all the way through. That is, if the flight is less than 12 hours of course.
But you can't stretch right out unless you are really short, plus ANZ seats are more narrow than most other airlines as they offer 10 across on the 777 whereas most other operators offer only 9 across. Nice idea but I don't think it will work.
The staggered seating was by far the best design, just put a privacy screen on each seat so your not looking at someones sweaty feet and it would be the best !
@quwers they just don't. you dont need to wear seatbelts throughout the whole flight. do they have seatbelts in the bathroom? do they have gaurdrails in the aisles? no.
It would cost the same if couple comes with a child because children pay 50% of adult fare. Airlines figure why not make the couple and families happy. If a couple comes then the airline is taking a loss since they could sell that seat for full adult fair, instead of 50% of adult fair. If it is a family option , then they are not taking a loss making a family confortable. The order on screen option is great idea. It is a great idea to make familys confortable, on those long trips.
Definitely a game changer. No other airline is offering this at the moment. I would pay that little extra for more comfort. And the ordering system is a great idea. Innovative little company.
@The391956 Air New Zealand, like most south pacific airlines, still offer a full service in Economy. Full Hot meals etc. Just like in premium economy and Business class.
@19bootsy68 i know for a fact all flights to hongkong leave at midnight i'm not sure about the l.a ones but im pretty sure they are night flights too! so it is a great idea
oh sure, the 3 year old and her petite mum are just fine. No one over 5 feet 10 is ever properly accommodated in the horrid coach seats offered by most carriers. are you listening legacy airlines? JetBlue and Virgin America are eating your lunch.
funny how the seats in room for the presentation he's giving look absolutely uncomfortable. I mean, no backs on the benches.

Dear All,
I have some questions about psychology:
(1) Why do we love flying?
(2) Why do we passengers enjoy the seat with a shell similar to that in this video?
(3) How do we feel differently if the seat has a shell?
THANK YOU IN ADAVNCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

I don't think it will since they don't serve
meals in economy.
They may put it in Business class and
First is slowly disapearing and Business
is taking over so it will be economy and
business. The rich don't fly on public
jets, they go private jet.

You are right the coach seats are such
horrible accommodations for anyone
over 5 feet and much worse for those
of 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet.
They charge for food now on all flights
even long domestic U.S. flights and
they charge for baggage.
