Assassin's Creed II on a Dell XPS 14 (L401X) ALL MAXED

I have a problem with this laptop. It didn't throttle before, but it does now. It's playing pretty ok and suddenly randomly starts to lag from 60 fps to 4 fps, sound effects repeat so quickly which makes a pretty anoying sound. The laptop itself is at 60°C and it's like that. It didn't happen before. Dell replaced the whole mother board which had the graphics and it still fails. Any clue?

your 3Dmark06 score is 7300? I have the same specs as you but I can only manage 6100-6200 w/o overclock. What drivers are you using?

how did u overclock ur cpu, can u tell me how or do a video on how? Cause I have a i3 370m at 2.4 ghz and yet u have it on 2.6

i gotta a dell xps 15 with 4gb ram i3 380 gb memory and geforce gt 420m, and i was wondering if anyone can tell me if these makes for a good gaming laptop,can i play stuff like MW2,black ops,assasins creed,crysis 2.....cuz i went on "can you run it" webiste and it says i cant cuz gt 420m dosent support hardware T&L? but i see many people on youtube run games on this card no problem

@jnven yeah, it's strange thing

BUT, not that hard to understand

in truth, the xps comes with a Intel Graphics"trash" as a "onboard", and the 420m as a "offboard"

and the Intel Graphics really doesn't have support for hardware T&L, etc

the site "Can U Run it" takes the Intel Graphics as the default display, and comes these results.

all i can say, the 420m have support for every modern graphic, without any doubt

i've installed crysis 2 and works veeeeeeeeery fine, seriously D:

normally, the 420m is seen as default video card

in rare cases the intel graphics take this place

BUT

when it occurs, you can click with the right button on the desired program, and there will be the menu: Run with graphic processor. Just choose the card =)

I bought the inspiron r15 just now, it has 370m 4gb ram and hd5650.

+cheap for good specs

- bad keyboard

- bad sound

Also the screen colours look very un natural but maybe i can fix that a bit.

i think it is a great choice too, but later, if u got the time, can you make a little gameplay vids? just for comparison. i'm curious about a gaming inspiron, because here in brazil, you cant make a custom inspiron with a hd5650 =\

and talk about it, just wanna know your opinion about the note.

@erikemares I will make some videos for sure, do you use fraps? i think assassins creed brotherhood comes around 20 february... i will play that and record some. I did a benchmark with 3DMark06, I scored 7300. Very nice in my opinion.

This fan is also really quiet, some people have problems with it but mine is perfect :D

I'm not sure what to buy right now, if the sound is really that great its maybe worth it...

I can get the inspiron 15r for 50 euro cheaper which is like 110 Brazil reais. And it has the hd4650 which is a slightly better graphics card. But the xps is also so nice with the building and sound..

Can you say anything about the noise from the fan? is it hard when gaming?

but not 100% of the time

when you are doing normal things, like watching youtube, writing, this kind of light stuff, the fan really doesn't make any noise.

but, when you play heavy graphics game for a few minutes, you can note a little noise

after 1/2 or 2 hour of gameplay, the noise will be a little louder, but nothing to worry about

you will only listen if u r on a very silent place

in my father's house, i played for hours and not noticed the noise

@grijper12 yeah... the default 720p screen kinda sucks =\ but in several countries you can purchase the 1080p B+RLED screen. the reviews r really great. but i think it will be expensive. in my country, Brazil, we don't have this option =\

PS: the 720p screen is one of the weakness of this notebook. if you want quality, change to 1080p or pick another notebook. but the rest is completely worth. =)

@erikemares Yes, here in Holland they can provide you with the 1080p screen for another 200 euro extra.

I ordered exactly the same laptop as yours which they said would deliver within 24 hours, they didn't do it... So i plan on canceling it maybe and buy an inspiron 15r instead. Which has a HD5650.

@grijper12 still a good deal, but the XPS has a lot of good stuff. Like the sound, the JBL set. DUDE, its just a digital and perfect sounds on a damn NOTEBOOK D: seriously, its so fuckin good D:

the touch pad also is a good thing on this laptop, it feels like mac pro, and have the same finger things that apple has created.

the camera is also a strong thing, its a 720p cam, with the max. of 1600x1200. just a really good webcam. on skype it just work perfectly =D

but with XPS u dont have this problem =D

theres aluminum everywhere, on the top, on the keyboard, everywehere

seriously, it's hard to leave a fingerprint in it

and the design, the unique design
