Looks wonderful, once it's all been cleaned up and all the rubbish thrown it will make a great home. The traditional living area look much older than 40 years what a wonderful space.
I wonder what induced you to settle in Japan though and in such an apparently out of the way place?
Nice find. I love all that stuff. Would be sweet sorting through it all. Need any volunteers? ;) Apart from the property price and legal fees does one have to budget for the house clearance refuse collection? I can imagine it to be quite expensive -unless you are allowed to take it to the tip yourself.
If you buy this house I would love to see videos of the work you guys do to it! I love fixers, definitely a plus with the sheds and guest house. Not to mention the garden, who needs markets when you've got it all in your yard.
This place looks like a keeper! I can think of all kinds of ways to pretty up the yard (not into shoveling out the interiors though :D ). Man, you could spend months just sifting through the stuff left behind, maybe some of it's worth something.
So have you given this place anymore thought? Seems like an easy 'fixer'. For the amount of land that's available, it's a given you probably won't see too many opportunities like this around.
Wow, I had the volume turned up to be able to hear you in the other video, then watched this and I was shocked half to death by HEY GUYS!!! before i managed to find the pause button.
good japanese house. your wife probably knows to get someone for refreshing the tatamis. and check for termite/earthquake damage in the foundation~ overall great find!
Will you be looking at any houses that are not as old? Maybe 10-20 years old and not as dilapidated.....lol?
Usually well built houses last for over a 100 years in the US. I'm sure there are ones like that in Japan that are only 10-20 years old even though it might be fully depreciated.
Seems like a good house, but for cultive your own farm requires so much dedication :/.
Actually i thought there were not so much houses like this in JP right now, i mean so much ppl spend their times outside houses, working or they're busy with anything :3
That is an Awesome house!!! I love the old style houses the best. All that "Old Stuff" could bring in a lot of money on ebay!, lol, that stuff would probably paid for the house by the time out got it all sold.
What the hell?, you say the girls don't find this cool?, I'm a girl and this place looks sweet just need some touch ups so it can be in it's glory again.
loved that! (And I'm a girl) Any kind of odd little house. It didn't have a lot of nooks and crannies though and weird hidden rooms. If one has a lot of friends and is a farmer, the house would be perfect. Otherwise..would be so lonely.
Fantastic house. Sometimes the real gems are buried even under tons of junk. but I agree with you, imagine what you might find that is worth something! Very cool.
I've been following all your house hunting video's with interest. Lots of them were nice, but this has been the first one that has really jumped out to me and caught my interest.
Do you know if the reason it's not sold has been due to lack of interest or if it's just the pace of the lawyers?
i have a very important question. my dad is 63 years old and my uncle is 67 and i would like to move them to japan,i am looking for a good place to lice for the 3 of us and its really hard. do you have any info so i can go by so i can get my family out of the united states
The great thing about this is you can probably haggle them down real cheap cause no japanese person is going to buy it, and with some hard work this house could be great!
Hey, thanks for your vids, love how yo catch all the culture and stuff and i men all! i have a question, i have heard of "wa" ( i think this is what you call it), the concept of keeping it stable/peaceful in the house and neighbourhood, now at this house, i love the overhang, lean to, and my immediate thought was , great place for a open air blacksmith shop. would this be acceptable? or am i way off track? do you see what i am saying? thanks for your time, ed.
I like this one. Could imagine it done up quite well. You didn't mention the price... The second house would make a great office, writing rooms. Take you awhile to get through all the stuff. I'd live there, for sure. Cheers
snoopy at 5:43-5:49 .... eitherway I think cleaning this place will cost more than buying it :x anyone has a few million dollar/euro/pound to spare? :D
I'd say you might have been living in Japan for a tad too long up until now, when you start thinking, girls won't be interested in rummaging through old and dirty stuff or having tools and stuff around them... ^_^
I don't think I'm the only girl around here who just loves this and wants to start trying out all the tools at once!
Great house! And a garden attached to it - I'd take it! =)
I think the guy died but they didnt want to tell (or you didnt want to tell us)you because it is considered bad luck and if someone died in a flat or a house they would sell it for half the price right?
Always be weary of places that haven't been lived in for a long time (more than 1 year). I can see all sorts of issues you' find once moved in. Also, those bathrooms need to go! ha
I wouldnt be against a big renovating project, I mean, removing all that junk you got a decent japanese house right there. I often wonder jow it would be to buy a cheap, forgotten house and then turn it into someting splendid. I bet you save alot of money and you got this classic japanese house that I know you always wanted ;)
I just love it. We're on that size block in Australia and although it is obviously 'normal' size here, it is a good size block. We grow vegies and have chooks.
Think that's the best one so far that you've showed us. Could Ebay alot of that "stuff" and make some cash back.Or just get a big dumpster and start chucking. But yeah, after a good cleaning that place would look nice.

By far the best place youve shown so far. Looks like a winner to me! I cant wait for the videos on how to create a Japanese garden with a random tractor over grown vegitation lol.
I'd want a countryside house like that. It'd be better than the crowded city for a change. Hope not much pollutions like some countrysides in the US are full of. Fascinating video yet again.
I don't understand why people would keep so much stuff lying around. I'm kind of a minimalist type of person. Do away anything that isn't needed and there's less chance for chaos to occur, because you don't have to manage so many items. :D
Everything must be orderly. Nothing can obstruct that pattern of clearness.
So much space too, and plenty of nature. it would be awesome to set up a little zen garden around... and the higher ceilings must be good for a tall person like yourself. though the dead guy and the 'mystery stuff' does concern me a bit, haha xP
i love this house, so much character, I would love a house like this. Also it would be a lot of fun to sort through all that junk, who knows what you would find.
Based off the comment below, I have a question: Are the Japanese "scavengers" like Americans? That's to say, are yard sales or garage sales a part of their culture? During this time in the USA, esp. w Independence Day coming (July 4), MANY people--even entire neighborhoods--clean out basements, garages and such to sell their junk. And people drive around looking for "treasure". A lot of times you'll hear of folks buying an item for mere dollars only to find later it's worth thousands. LOL
@thecuddlewagon There are shrine sales. Paul Maclardy, who runs Arise, a big wholesale and retail warehouse Asian antique store in NE Washington DC, used to go to Japan, maybe still does, and collect Japanese antiques at shrine sales and other places and send them back in a container on a ship that he then unloaded at his shop. He seems to have shifted more towards new items and a wholesale clothing business lately (made in India), but the point is, there are sources of such items in Japan.
I say Take it all that needs to be done is some cleaning ( as you said) and a few odd jobs that can be done well living there.... plus by selling all of the stuff that you don't need you could likely cover the reno costs
i like this house its one of my favorites so far it really doesn't look that bad it just needs a good cleaning i also love the big old style room and the yard is great ! i would totally buy this house i would just worry about how difficult it would be to get rid of all the trash but id love to see if anything cool was in any of the boxes thanks again for another cool video ^^
Thanks for making these video,I really appreciate them. But could you make a video about Japanese Lawyer since it will be very interesting to see how they approach argument because it generally does not lead to harmony in court which is the Japanese way of life.
I was wondering... can you demolish the second house or the sed, for instance, so you can get extra garden space? and how much would it cost to make this garden... a real garden, with mowed grass, some nice plants and maybe even a lake?
That is so freaking awesome! While you were going through it I was already thinking to myself everything I would do to it lol. I'd keep most of it the same but do a lot of renovation to it and I would try to make the coolest Japanese style garden anyone has ever seen! Thanks for sharing, I really like these videos :).
great place mate, i think this is the best one you've shown so far, a lot of space and if you can get it rather cheap it would be a real diamond in the rough especially if you plan to have kids or like you mentioned have a dojo .
one thing that generally concerns me about the farm houses though is the proximity to the nearest town or station whats the situation like there?
Oh I would definetely make that last shed into a dojo of my own! Then teach me kids some kendo!

do you think that if they clean their houses when they put it up for sale that it will increase their chances of selling it?
i'm kind of surprised that they are ok with putting it up like that on the market.

LOL

@thecuddlewagon
No, no garage sales.
And most of them are not interested in old stuff.

Thanks for making these video,I really appreciate them. But could you make a video about Japanese Lawyer since it will be very interesting to see how they approach argument because it generally does not lead to harmony in court which is the Japanese way of life.

I'd live in that for sure. Which is odd, I haven't thought that about many of the houses you've shown on your channel.

I was wondering... can you demolish the second house or the sed, for instance, so you can get extra garden space? and how much would it cost to make this garden... a real garden, with mowed grass, some nice plants and maybe even a lake?
oscarscheepstra 8 months ago
if you are working on the garden you can use... the garden! no need for the yucky urinal :p

It would be awesome to clean the whole place up, land and all - and then see what it looked like afterwards.

Once you start cleaning you'll find the '56 chevy convertible in there somewhere...Lol. Nice, thanks for sharing.
