I loved this little gem--such a pity no one remembers or speaks of it! Very funny and lovingly acted slice-of-life, and an interesting bookend to the movie "Quincenera" (which is the same neighborhood 20 years later). Susan Dey is terrific, Tom Hulce is wonderful, and it's just a great feel-good movie. Track it down!
I have one question: Does Tom Hulce (Jonathan) "get" May in the end or August or noone? I´d really like to know because I have not seen this movie but love the scenes you can watch on youtube. Please answer.
I've never seen this version--the version I have, the dad slaps the guy, then it cuts right to the silhouette of the mountain. This is a nice ending--wonder why they cut it?
The best part is about 50 seconds in, where the guy shakes his head really hard, then realizes there's probably some animals around that can see him so he fixes his hair for them.
In his culture, when someone does a hand stand and you hold his legs up like that and take a whiff of his crotch, it seals the friendship for eternity. It's not a bad movie at all, ya see. It's just misunderstood.
if you think this bluff scene is great, you should see "Stomp the Yard", towards the end there's a really nice stomp/sunset scene from a bluff that's not to be missed.
nothing beats a shirtless hulce. i want to kiss him all over and hump him in bed
