Yes,Randy was an "up and comming" fusion studio bassist. Patrice Rushen was the keyboardist. She is one of the finest keyboardist of all times. A "child" prodigy, she was. Won one of the most prestigious keyboard awards when she was a kid. Rayford G. was a "slammin" young studio drummer as well. If you JLP lovers notice,JLP took these young prestigious studio musicions out of the studio...and on the road with him,and look where they are now. Every musicion he touches...turns to "gold".
What a work out for a soloist of any instrument. You have to keep shifting back and forth between two keys every two bars. Wonder why the guitarist didn't take a crack at it.
I've been playing bass my whole life and listened to million bass lines, and NOTHING compares to this. Brilliant stuff, great band, great tune. Totally addicted.
@sirdave0824 I like to imagine going on "American Idol"with a band and playing the bass to this piece. At the end I would say nothing, but I would smile and point at Randy.

WTF. Just found out this is Randy Jackson on bass (and not Ralphe Armstrong as I had always assumed)....
What the hell is a musician of this calibre doing hanging around with a musical RETARD like Simon Cowell??????????
