  • Blue Ray's days are numbered, just another money grabing format that will come and go. And then you can buy all your movies all over again in the next format.

  • Same with betamax, vhs and dvd then. I know it was 4 months ago you posted but i wanted to answer you. Its Blu-Ray btw. If you don't wanna get the best out of movies the be my guest. But you can't go through life thinking "oh that thing will be out of date soon". Every new thing will eventually be replaced.

  • Blu ray is maybe slow (2x) but how with DVD first dvd's got speed 4x and now have 16x, that same will happen with blu ray in future it will be faster

  • Blu-ray 2009 rip

  • Digital downloads will become widespread but not in near future. Many parts of the world won't get super hi speed internet in years, and that's why blu ray is here.

  • You're in idiot. With whatever download service you have right now, you can still walk into a store and buy a CD. Super Audio CD, nor DVD-A has overtaken CD as the choice to buy physical media. If no one bought the physical media at all they wouldn't be sold.

Meet the Spartans the only full BD rip I found came in at 21 gigs. I'm not sure of all the audio tracks, and everything on there. That's big, try and download 21 gigs from a server and have fun with it. :)

  • i like how technology improves, but it's kinda a pity to see how things changed. .. for example i miss my VHS movies. Of course dvds and well....this new thing i dont know(cuz i live in argentina where everything comes lately) have better quality, but i just miss old times

    this publicity shows it all

  • Thank goodness this format war is over and a clear winner left standing. War's end game in time as I'm in preps of upgrading to HDTV and will be in need of HD sources.

  • My Sony laptop came with BluRay and its cool and all... BUT I hoped that Toshiba/Microsoft's HD format would win. You see... BluRay has BD+ protection that has not been cracked yet. It is a program that will prevent you from ripping the movie. Meaning no more copies. Even if you try to crack BD+ it is programmed to FIX your computer... At least microsoft cared to steer off DRM's They are also talking about BluRay movies that LOCK themselves to ONE BR PLAYER. Ponder over that Format lovers.

  • only retards would want to download pirated movies or buy ripped copies for cheap... besides, it's a good thing Blu-Ray has such an advanced protection system; otherwise, Sony (and the companies that worked with Sony in the Blu-Ray project) wouldn't be making as much money.

  • 50gbs in the same area means that the data on the disk is much more compacted. What will happen if your disk gets a little scratch? It will have a severe amount of damage possible unreadable. Then what? You were unable to create a backup because of the protection so your out 25-30$ btw I dont download pirated movies or buy ripped dvds. (my ISP would nail me)

  • the bluray disk is coated is a resistant material. some dude tested it out on youtube look it up. he finnaly killed it with a knife. so if you get a scratch big enough for it not to read, then your an ass hole for not looking after your shit properly.

  • Great video

  • ah, format wars, first came the VHS versus sony's BETAMAX(BETAMAX was by far superior in sound and video quality plus it could hold more video per cm of tape), but VHS won, then came SD versus sony's MMCD(MMCD was by far superior again), but SD won, Now comes HD DVD versus sony's Blu-Ray(Blu-Ray is superior to HD DVD), now who's gonna win?

  • Once Disney went exclusive, I don't know who didn't see this coming

  • go blu u did it.

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again, a toast to the blu crew, we have won. The war is "finally" over.

  • The war is really over! :D yay Blu!!

  • I see that HD DVD fanboys cant handle defeat and rate down this vid and many others supporting blu ray,get a reality check dumbasses Blu Ray is the winner. The Future is Blu!

  • THE WAR IS OVER

  • Great vid. Oh and banner, with only 2 major studios still backing HD-DVD you really think it stands a chance against Blu-Ray? You should join the moaning bitches over at Toshiba. By mid 08 HD-DVD will be extinct. It's doing nothing but fighting a losing battle.

  • Sry but you are the sheep and toshiba is your sheepdog, stop bieng such a fanboy and admit that HD DVD lost to Blu Ray.

  • HE DID YOU RETARD

  • LOL. Spolier alert. I couldn't sit through the the whole 36 seconds either. What happens after he throws away the 8 Track tape player ?

  • Ughhh movies 30$....I'm gonna freakin die.

  • it'll get cheaper :)

  • Lets hope ^^ lol why do people give u negatives for saying movies are overpriced...lol

  • You can get two-for-one deals at amazon for bluray all the time. 15 dollars a movie. Oh, and not even disney blurays start at 30 bucks. 25 is the new starting price. BTW< I didn't mark you down.

  • lolz

  • i would not put my hd dvd player away i love it and i love my blu ray player

  • Sony might have had failures in the PAST... since they have tried to innovate over the 2 decades, unlike other companies... it was inevitable. But Sony has also had success, many success. CD, you wouldn't have seen DVD without it!... the Walkman, ect. I could go on.

Every company has at least some failures, they also have success. Consider this new failure.. HD DVD.. given to Toshiba, by Sony.

  • WANDER DISC

    WONDER DISC

  • blue ray rulez

  • HDDVDm9(^Д^)プギャー

  • You forgot vhs recorder, not dead yet but on life support.

One format is not good, now prices will go up or stay high for blu ray hardware and titles.

  • that's not true though because it still has to compete with DVD sales, and the PS3 (currently one of the cheapest Blu-ray players at $399) still has to compete with the cheaper Xbox 360 and Wii, and PS3 price drops have created a big jump in sales the 2 times they've done it so far, so another price drop this year is entirely probable.

  • hahaha epic

  • HD DUD

Born March-31-2006, died between June and December 2008.

  • I have to correct you...

    HD DUD

    Born March-31-2008, died Febuary-19-2008.

    :]

  • Ooops...

    Born March-31-2006, died Febuary-19-2008. **

    Had correct myself too... LOL!

    Yay Blu ray.

  • Lets get a trumpeteer to play Taps for HD DUD for this moment. And Universal's gone blu too. In the words of the wheelen' dealin', kiss stealin', limosene riden', jet flyin', son of a gun known as Ric Flair, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!

    Its finally over. :]

*breaks out a guitar solo in the name of bluray*

  • SONY RULEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • HAHAHA so true!!!!

They were off by three days

  • Warner and Disney both went blu ray exclusive I'd say its over for Hd-dvd

  • ? Pode uma propaganda fazer isso ?Colocar um aparelho concorrente como morto ?

Can an ad do this? put HD DVD like dead

  • Warner went Blu-ray exclusive, it's a major blow to HD DVD.

  • Fuck hd dvd!

  • I think blu ray is a nicer name than HD DVD

  • Funny because it's true.

  • Hurrah for propaganda

  • Man that guy has to be about 60, yet he looks the same as he did back in 69.

  • Was thinking the exact same thing.

  • oh my god this is the lamest format war ever

  • hd dvd is dead :)

    BLU RAY!!!!

  • Hooray! I thank heavens that Warner Bros. came to their senses and turned over. Now we just have to wait for those stubborn Universal and Paramount executives to abandon it as well! Seriously, how could those people ever imagine in their wildest dreams that HDDVD could stand a chance against Blu-ray - with Sony and PS3 on their side. LET'S POP THE CHAMPAGNE!

  • How could they ever imagine you say? It's because M$ either bribed them or own them. PS, I've figured out why U. studios is HD DUD exclusive. You know that NBC is the parent of Uni and its sister MSNBC is a joint venture between NBC and M$ and we all know that M$ supports th look and sound of public humilition, HD DUD. BUT...I've found a way to let Uni. do BD. NBC has an 82% share between M$ for MSNBC so in short, M$ is NBC's b*tch, and can pull out of HD DUD when they feel like it.

  • The first reason why I bought a PS3 Blu-Ray beyond hi-def oh yeah it also plays games. And of of August last year some games worth while came out.

  • hd-dvd is now dead - 2008

    thank you warner bros.

  • HD DVD marketing mostly uses red. I mean, every case is red, so it's easy to associate HD DVD with red and Blu-ray with blue. In any event, you're being too pedantic.

  • red rings of death lol

  • Blu-Ray does what HD-DVDon't.

  • As pro wrestling world champion and olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle might say, "Its true, its true".

  • Party at my house! It's the final nail in the coffin for the red ants. Now bring out The Matrix Trilogy!

  • add HD DVD to The Junk Closet

  • i love u warner haha thats gonna be good for the ps3, which is the same price as a blu-ray player.

  • A toast to the Blu crew, we have won. The war is over.

  • Not yet. The winner is decided, but HD-DVD can still hamper the BDA.

  • Oh, and I just found out that all Spielberg movies are BD-exclusive, despite being published by Paramount XD

  • I know. Now that Warner will be BD exclusive from June 1st, we might get to see something like The Goonies on BD only.

  • Everybody known it was coming..Blu Ray wins!!

Warner Bro is exclusve now..and soon it will be unversial and paramount..

  • Warner is going BLU RAY exclusive, Yipee

    HD DVD is dead, great

  • Oh, and I forgot ton say that New Line(LOtR, TGC) is a subsidary of Warner, so they're now BD-exclusive as well.

  • Yep, Warner has gone Blu-ray exclusive(effective from may 2008), and Fox is expected to follow them shortly.

Sorry guys, but it' over. Better sell your Toshiba shares and HD-DVD players now.

  • Fox was, and will always be blu exclusive... perhaps you meant Universal or Paramount?

  • Yeah, sorry. I meant Universal.

  • Warner have joined the party.

    HD-DVD is finished.

  • lol blue ray is better

  • First I'll say, funny vid, I don't agree with it, but funny!

I'm getting a little sick of people declaring a winner so early in the game! No matter who is selling more disks right this second HD disks are still a tiny, tiny piece of the home video market. It is to early to tell guys, but I will say this, the first to regular price decent $99 wins! Unless of course both do it at the same time!

  • I meant first to decent $99 player wins. Sorry for the bad typing!

  • in other words sony are calling us all retards for not buying sony

ive got a list the size of my arm of products that sony have failed with (betamax and minidisc to mention but a few)

go nail your blu ray to your forehead you pompous sony pricks.

i brought one of your players and its shit

  • HD DUD sux fact. PS, BD is now offically outselling HD in the US 3-1. Maybe Paramount are having seviere doubts about taking that bribe and we have all heard about the rumors that WB is going blu exclusive and Uni. going netural at CES. Lets just hope its true.

  • lol, do you use cd?, if it was for sony we probably* wouldnt have cd or dvd, so plz be quiet..

  • True that Sony has had some stinkers, but quite frankly, I'm tired of people for ripping on Sony for that. Why? Because at least they try to innovate. How many companies just sit back and let others take all the punches for something new, and then try and rip it and make it better (or worse)... humm, MS comes to mind! You think there would even be an Xbox if their hadn't been a PS2 first? Get over it already.

  • RIP HD-DVD

  • It takes over 3 minutes for some Blu-ray discs to load on Sonys BDP-S300 Blu-ray player. That's a Looooong time.

  • I have both formats - and my HD-DVD looks better on the few films I've compared which are on dual-release.

Also, it's ironic that the "beta tape" player featured in this clip was a Sony product, just like Blu-Ray. lol

  • blu-ray is still the newer product so it wont be loads better

  • I mean come on HD-DVD They had a head start and still lose 2 to 1 to Blu that cost more that was a surprise to HD cause they jump ahead and Granny shifting, unless HD got Nitrous who's gunna win. I'll give it a few more days for the last Country to decide who will win when Blu already won around the world.

  • if this is really a PR video by BDA than I guess theres no telling how low these guys can go when they try to sell there crap.

  • HD DVD has better audio? 60% of Blu-ray titles have lossless audio. Only 20% of HD DVD titles do. Case closed.

  • Better scratch resistant disks, please.

HD DUD, the look and sound of someone in the bathroom after eating chilli.

  • blu-ray is the one with the special coating on it not hd dvd get your facts right before you post idiot. I'm guessing that you own a hd dvd player and not blu-ray fanboy.

  • How can anyone possibly buy HD-DVD over Blu-ray. And please, when Disney, Spielberg, Lucas, ect., ect. picks Blu-ray over HD-DVD...that tells you something. Can you say Pixar, E.T., Jaws, Star Wars, Indiana Jones? You can't if you're a HD-DVD owner.

  • This wasn't a fan made clip. Its part of a viral marketing campaign done by the Blu-ray Disc Association. They didn't get the slam dunk win they expected so now they're getting a little nervous.....

  • What is funny is that sony invented half the crap shoved in that closet.

  • HAHAHAHAHA!!!

    that is so true :D

  • Especially when Beta was the only one that was actually in direct competition with something else. Ha ha, whoops.

  • Blu-ray is better simply because of capacity. Blu-ray has much more backing.

  • Hey, don't let this degrade into yet another... oh, too late.

  • Desperate much Sony? I like it how people rate everything anti-Sony with low scores, like that's going to help somehow.

  • i wish i knew where you lived so i could come and murder you

  • F**k HD DUD, the look and sound ''please flip disk to side B'' of perfect.

  • I want my 8 track tapes!

  • They skipped VHS and DVD

  • Actually there is NO 51 GB HD-DVD disk YET. When/if it ever does come out, it will just be met with the 100 GB Blu-Ray disk.

  • Yea, all the players need to play the 100 gig disk is a simple software update.

  • That'll teach HD DUD trying to out pace BD (which never will). HD DUD sux, plain and simple.

  • lol sony didnt make this another group did as a joke. its not even on the air

  • Conveniently they forgot Mini-Disc, Super Audio, Memory Stick, UMD and many more failed Sony formats.

  • Indeed. Although, laughably, they included betamax which was one of Sony's greatest format failures to date. In fact, it's the closest failure to bluray out of all of Sony's failed formats -- home video.

  • Well lets just wait another 6 months when BD wins the war.

  • Sony Didn't make this... it was fan made...

    You really couldn't tell?

  • Has Sony denied commisioning these? No.

  • blu-ray outsold HD DVD everywhere in the world:

    Japan 9:1

    UK 4:1

    EU average 7:3

    US 2:1

    Norway 9:1

Most of South-East Asian Countries 1:0 (honestly, BD is the only format in existance in SOME SE asian countries)

  • I really dont care what format wins as long as this war ends swiftly as possible so i can buy a player without worrying if the format i picked will lose.

  • I like Both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. I think Both Formats should work "Together" to Help get "HD" out there to the People.

like someone said "Can we all just get along"

  • People, Blu-Ray is outselling HD-DVD by like 85-23... Blu-Ray has more space on the CD and it has a clearer image.

  • maybe the HD-DVD box is an empty box ? because maybe he's actually using the player :P

  • Ha, its good.

  • Who knew that eight year olds were running a marketing campaign for Blu Ray?

    Wowie.

  • Hahaha, Sony will be bought by Toshiba within a full year, and Blu fever will be a lossy thing of the past : lossy image, lossy sound, lossy remasters, lossy Pirates of the caraiberian first reel, lossy dracula remaster, LOL

  • Yep, bluray transfers are honestly some of the worst!

  • They forgot to put UMD (by Sony) into the closet.

    Beta was Sony.

    What a crappy spot.

  • Beta is better than VHS and Blue ray is better than HD DVD,both are used in Pro studio situations,VHS and HD DVD are for home consumers

  • That's a *VHS* machine in the video, NOT a Beta! You can even see they had to scratch out or cover something on the top of the machine which was probably a VHS logo!

I refuse to support another format war anyways- they already make one player that plays BOTH HD formats and more are coming, when they get more reliable that's what I'll get. Til then, I'll not only enjoy my laserdiscs and Beta tapes, but also my CED videodiscs!

  • I think everything in this video going into the closet was made by Sony.

Bluray is the Beta of this generation. Everyone who owns one needs to prepare to put it into the closet too.

  • The industry has been leaning towards Blu-ray for a long time, though HD DVD has managed to hold on impressively thus far. Once Paramounts 150-million pay-off contract comes to an end, the dominos will topple even more quickly in BD's favor.

(and even if HD DVD gets there 51Gigs, they won't ever match BD's bandwidth)

  • The ironic part is that most of the technology going into that closet was made by Sony. BETA MAX? Yeah. Wasn't like that Sony's version of VHS?!

    Now Blurr Ray!?

The technology that tells its fans to hurry up and wait. Make you pay $1,200 for a player and then NOT give you a full specs machine that will be obsolete by 2008!

Why didn't the put UMD and Super Audio Cds in that closet as well. Oh yeah! Sony made those too.

  • You forgot Mini Disk, too. Also, a Sony product

  • You also forgot SDDS. Lost to Dolby and DTS.

  • LoL!

  • HD DVD is dead... sounds good :-)

  • How is HD DVD dead? I don't even use HD DVD or have an HDTV.

  • haha awesome

  • I agree with KQ6WQ but BD is clearly winning and if Paramount and Dreamworks hadnt moved over, it would be all but over by Xmas.

  • Lol good on. Adverts mocking other products like the Im am PC, Im a Mac actually work.

  • thts just stupid, why would you not want to enjoy something tha is the best, it has the capabilities of over 2 times the picture and holds a massive 50 gb, hddvd has got nothing on that.

  • Too bad the HD-DVD Forum just approved the 51gb 3 layer disc for their spec. Size really means nothing now :(. I personally want to see blu-ray win out cause of all the current studio support they have.

  • Too bad it also wont work on any current player. Don't you think it's very strange Toshiba are staying deadly silent on backwards compatability...

Sorry, but every single current HD DVD player is now obsolete..

  • Well, they announced a 100GB Blu-ray just after that, which WILL work with old Blu-ray players.. ;)

  • TL51 wouldn't work in current players. I agree that toshiba is silent because it can't work on current players, and disney voted to approve it strategically to hurt HD DVD sales.

While QL100 BD will work with only firmware update without modification of the optic.

Who has the unfinished spec? for me, it's HD DVD

  • How does that make any sense at all? If Disney were going to vote strategically they would have voted against TL or abstained (like Matsushita, Sony etc. did)

  • because they know it wouldn't work, while Sony and panasonic has no business with HD DVD

  • That makes even less sense. These aren't children. If a company doesn't want something they don't vote for it. If I supported candidate A but thought candidate B was incompetent I wouldn't vote for candidate B because I expected him to fail. If I did I would be an idiot.

  • I mean it wouldn't work in current players, and so it would hurt the sale. Sony and Panasonic, while a member of DVD Forum, does not have any business with HD DVD

  • The first two layers are at the same depth as the existing two, so players would play them. The third layer might not work, but that's no different to Blu-ray Profile 1.1 titles, which will lack functionality on existing players. Frankly 51GB is irrelevent. Nobody cares about capacity for home video purposes. It's all about bandwidth. If HD DVD improved that to match Blu-ray I might care. 51GB just means not having to change discs.

  • Nobody said that it will definitely not work. Likewise, nobody said that it will work.

So let me get this straight. You are saying that Disney votes on a gut feeling thinking that it "might" help kill the format. Please.

  • Laserdisc?

You're aware the Laserdisc player was around for over 20 years and has over 43,000 titles available for it right?

  • Exactly. The laserdisc had complete studio support all the way into 2001. Blu Ray won't last nearly as long.

  • It says 1997 because thats when its successor started rolling in.

  • Yeah, but this is about newish products that become junk quickly.

You can't call laserdisc that is he would have been able to buy a LD player at the same time he was throwing that 8-track player out in 1978. :)

  • Never a truer word spoken. HD DVD camp can try and force players on people at $99, but it's nothing more than PR stunt.

With all the lions share of hardware manufacturers (everyone besides Toshiba), supporting Blu-ray, and the superior studio support for Blu-ray, there is only one way this format war will end, and this movie predicts it nicely.

  • Wait, so according to your logic. The more people that manufacture a turd, the better the turd? You are such a shill! Are you even aware that some Blu Ray players don't even support anything other than Dolby Digital. Yeah, the future is Blu like your balls.

  • Bluray is hardly a turd, I would support which ever media form is better, I feel that is Blu-Ray.

Who agrees with me? Well the week Transformers (HD-DVD's trump card) was released, Blu-Ray still outsold HD DVD 79% to 21%.

That rat movie on Bluray outsold Transformers.

Consumers pick the winner, just deal with it and go Blu.

  • LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!
