  • this is humanity at it's best, not 1 shot was fired, i am colombian and im proud, people need to know that guns and technology don't matter if people don't do stuff like this, they wanted to keep everyone alive, sure we could have gone and killed the terrorists, but the brave soldiers didn't, they risked themselves with only 1 person of the people who helped touched a gun, and it was when taking the gun one of the FARC operatives brought with him at all times.

  • leipe shizzle

  • Fuck you F.A.R.C.

  • WOW people are so sad just like venezuela and ecuador there like alies with the farc.......... O And Colombia needs the US to help em , there not there to fight the farc there just there to stop the drug traffic and yes im half colombian. Last thing Chavez the idiot has been buing wepons and tanks from russia for over 2years and Nobodys says snap but then colombia just wants a few military bases in colombia to stop the drug traffic Everybody in south makes a Deal about it.

  • this woman is such a fake, you can tell it's all for the camera

  • fuck is the matter with u ignorant fuck?...u actually think this kidnappings its a scam??..try being kidnapped in the fucking jungle for 11 years eating nothing but rice or water..having guns to ur face and not bieng able to see ur family??...ur an ignorant and i hope u wud get kidnapped..fuking bytch

  • 'Stansell, 44, [former marine of Florida] told the Associated Press:

"I watched her [Bentancourt] try to take over the camp with an arrogance that was out of control. Some of the [FARC] guards treated us better than she did."

    from web site Guardian UK

  • At the beginning of July Colombia informed that he had freed Betancourtin and 14 other hostages. Radio however, Suisse Romande will first report on July 4th, the ransoms of 20 million dollars which have received FARC after which a staged liberation operation was made.

  • 'She [Bentancourt] is believed to suffer from serious liver problems and was pictured looking frail in a recent video. '

But she still has the energy to put on her bikini and swim on the beach at Maimi-see the pics on google

  • The FARC and the ELN are not terrorist groups, they are armies, real armies that occupy a space in Colombia. The FARC and the ELN must be given recognition. They are insurgent forces that have a political and Bolivarian project, and that is respected here.

    Hugo Chavez

  • If the FARC isnt a terrorist organization, I dont know what is! For one they take people against their will. They subject them to the most terrible living conditions, totally cut off from their famalies and any other communication, force them in Shackels. The FARC terrorists attacked a police department and took more than 40 police men hostage in order to "fund" their twisted for of military. They are most defenitely a terrorist organization, and they all deserve to be TORTURED to death!

  • FARC is not a terrorist group. Everything you describe is what the USA has been invovled in. Torture at Guantanamo bay and at Abu Ghraib prison, atrocities committed in Ira, Vietnam.

    You are living hypocrisy

  • Atrocities committed in Iraq? Are you kidding me? How bout thousands of lives lost horribly on 9-11 due to Muslim Terrorist organizations, suicide missions for the sake of killing another. Sure, some innocent people were killed, but what war doesnt involve ? A direct aim wasnt taken at innocent men, women, and children - although little Osama's grow up to be big Osama's. The FARC is a KNOWN terrorist group, its one of the last independently free standing malicious groups still in force today

  • Political Project? Call it whatever you will. Fact of the matter is, thousands of ppl are in captivity against their will, people that have nothing to do with the FARC/Columbia Govt war. The war between the two groups is fine - all regions are at war in some way or another, but to violate my right to travel through Columbia, hold me captive, strip me of my money and any other valuables - and put me in shackles for years, all because I have a $ sign on my back? A means to "fund" your twisted

  • so called "Army" And if someone dared to rescue me, put a bullet in my head? Your brainwashed if you dont call that terrorism. Your FARC organization is dwendeling to a minimum. Soon enough you bunch of monkeys are gonna run outta woods to bury yourselves in, and YOU too will be a thing of the past. Your not part of a "government" , theres no structure to your "mission" Your only objective is to KILL or CAPTURE, in rebellion to your local Government that has structure

  • "bunch of monkeys "? wtf lol

listen up yankee, the US have no right to be in Colombia, corrupt US pigs will never win, they are losing and unable to ascertain how many numbers FARC has, this is one of FARC's main strategies.

President Uribe is also a corrupt bastard, his second term of presidency is de-facto illegal. See quote on Guevaristas channel from James Petras-expert in latin american studies

  • Yankee? lol Im from the south you douchbag. Why are you living in the USA? You shouldnt even know what it feels like to be free, If you support such acts of terrorism

  • US has no right to be in Colombia? Really? I wonder why they sale tickets to there everyday. I have the right to go there - just as you have the right to be in America.

I wonder - why your here if your so passionate about what your terrorist group partakes in? You look like too much of the prissy type, I cant see you living in the woods for years, If your gonna live on the US soil, you need to respect the foundation it was built on - freedom, not terrorism. The internet that your voicing

  • He already is on America, America is not a country , america is a continent.

You are being influenced by the TV and by the goverment, so sad

  • your attention seeking opinions on, I just dont see the internet being readily accessable deep deep in those woods LOL Swallow your pride little one - admit that your proud to be American! lol PEACE!

  • are you on dope? lol. Im no fukin north american.Actually Gary Leech's site is both independent and legitimate. He even stayed in a FARC camp for a couple of days and interviewed Raul Reyes. James Petras is also considered an expert of latin american studies

  • James Petras is a rancid commie.

  • Cuba, Chavez and the FARC have no right to be in Colombia.

  • Nowhere in the USA is anyone held captive against their will (except convicted felons in prison ) Its futile to contain the areas of war, Sure, theres prisoners of war during all that you described against the USA - Im sure some of them deserved a harsh punishment, especially the "brains" of the operations against our soldiers.(Sadam H for instance ) The majority of POW's in Iraq were prosecuted by the IRAQ Govt, and punished accordingly. Iraq/Iran are sister countries.

  • There is general agreement among human rights organizations that the worst violations of the laws of war are carried out by Colombian paramilitary forces, which have been materially supported by the Colombian government for decades.'

Paul Wolf (US Attorney), 2008, Colombia Journal web site

  • Thank God, the glorious Colombian army to rescue the hostages from the clutches of the narco-terrorists of the FARC.

  • dersimden farc'a sevgilerle,dünyanın bütün devrimcileri faşist abd'ye karşı brleşin,TİKKO'dan FARC'A sevgilerle.

  • You're an idiot.

  • Kiss my ass.

  • Drop dead, you Che-Tshirt wearing cocksucker.

  • The fact that the rebels fell for the ruse that the Red Cross was going to move their hostages shows that this is something the Red Cross does all the time. Find out who the person you're donating money to really is, and what he's going to do with it!

  • No one talks about the prisioners tortured in Guantánamo, Abu Grahib, Tucson, Guam etc.

Suddenly the world cares for Betancourt, when in countries like mine, hundreds of inocents are killed every month. Pathetic!

  • i´m with you

  • I am leftist i dont agree with the tactic of Farc (take hostages with this tactiks they made "heroes" people like Betancourt) But you see for media deserves only the life of Betancourt and nto more than 1500 leftist hostages and syndicalists that the fascist goverment of Uribe has in the jail. Too much hypocricy

  • Everyone cares about the 700 hostages of FARC but noone about the more than 2000 hostages of the Colombian goverment. What a hypocricy

  • hostages? you mean criminals that have had a fair trial in a true democracy.

  • Criminals oh really? And Uribe is democracy? Who do you think that will believe this. Uribe goverment is a fascist goverment. I don agree \with Farc tactic to take prisoners but Uribe goverment is much, much worst

  • Uribe is the best president Colombia have till this day

  • Uribe is the worst president in latin America

  • you punks believe everything u see on TV...

ignorant people, the colombian government gave a LOT of money to the farc for this people!

    fuck this bitch!

  • ah.. another unfounded statement.

  • Yeah, sure, OK, whatever.

  • just goes to show u that the only good communist are dead ones. i hope the colombian army massacres those mutherfucking farcfaggs, they have suffered to much from those assholes.

  • not anymore they have a capitalist and a very friendly American president now and they are coming around.

  • She and the American soldiers where the bargaining chips for FARC and they lost them maybe soon the Colombia government can go after them now.

  • You gotta love all this expert analysis from a bunch of paranoid, conspiracy nuts who probably couldn't even find Colombia on a map. Have any of you ever been to Colombia??? Probably not. I spent 3 years there and saw exactly what is going on in that country. These are just typical knee jerk responses from a bunch of people who's hatred is so deep for Bush they will come up with anything to discredit our government even when there is good news.

  • after fighting the goverment for 40 years, you might want to move on with your life....lol

  • politics and power play as usual. Why now? After YEARS?! At USA election time, and McCain just happens to be there....America does nothing outside it's borders for charity...

  • Americans don't be fooled by this Bullshit!!! This is all just to make Colombia look good to Americans so they can ram though the stupid "Free Trade" deal. Americans are waking up and will not lose anymore jobs to 3rd world Countries

like Colombia. The only thing Colombia has to offer the average American is Cocain, Heroin, Illegal Aliens and Very Cheap Outsourced Labor, we already get that from Mexico. I pray to God that we learned our lessen from NAFTA

  • it seems even in good times like this its a conspiracy get a life wounder if you to lazy to get one maybe you shouldn't blame NFTA but liberals who just love to tax tax tax.

  • or xycontin

  • All these conspiracy theory freaks!Y cant people believe that Colombia succesfully freed the hostages through an undercover rescue mission? I enjoy how latin american "EXPERTS" on here belive that something fishy went on. Some idiot will probably come on here and say the FARC was created by the Colombian governement with the help of the US so that investor can exploit the poor. CMON, give me a break. I think people, aswell as some governments & guerillas, use the poor to reject capitalism.

  • Hooligan, I still agree with you and you ask for proof? There is no conspiracy theory here but a simple distinction, reality and TV are different, this is not hard to appreciate yet too hard to separate because many spend more time in front of the tube than inside their minds. If you ever have time, read the text of the USA PATRIOT Act, and then think about privacy and individual freedom. Some of its language affects terrorists, some affects Americans. An all-or-none approach is poor thinking.

  • Hooligan, once upon a time an idiot said that Jesus walked on water and lots of people believed it. It's not about the idiots' claims, but about what or who you choose to believe. Some use the poor to reject capitalism and some use capitalism to reject the poor. As long as you believe than one -ism is better than the other, you're still part of the problem and far from the solution. Good luck with Fox News and CNN, their reality is painless, and if it hurts, there's always Vicodin.

  • Gracias a Dios! Muerte a Chavez y a todos los maldito terroristas/comunistas del mundo. Abajo el comunismo.

  • Gracias a Dios! Muerte a Chavez y a todos los maldito terroristas/comunistas del mundo. Abajo el comunismo!!!

  • ofcourse it was a paid shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no 1 no1 was hurt yeah right FARC had to let them go cuz they knew thew are going down

  • PROVE IT!!!

  • It was a FAKE operation. Paid by politicians from USA and Colombia. FARC are not dumbs as CNN and others want to show.

  • you are a "chavista".. , it wasn't fake or what Raúl Reyes (one of FARC top leaders) isn't death...

the end is close to this terrorist group

  • The end is near for the fascist groups that you support

  • PROVE IT!!!! WHere is the evidence that supports ur claim?

  • turn off the TV ...

Come to Colombia and see yourself

  • mabe yes, maybe no, thats really a mistery, because if it was a fake, perhaps what would be farc next attemp, but thats difficult to think because those hostages were like their best weapon to use agaisnt colombia, and because of their liberation it was also a great damage to las farc, so this still a enigma.

  • This goes out to all th people who support the left-wing parties, the FARC, Che Guevarra, Castro, Hugo Chavez and the socialist movement...MORONS!!You have been slapped in the face again. When will u understand that socialism is a failed system. No matter how many Guerillas are formed to start a "revolution" u will always fail!! VIVA Colombia and Bravo to the United States. Both those countries have shut Hugo Chavez rants toward the U.S. and Colombia.

  • of course,as we are all aware,FARC are the biggest amateurs in history. All it takes to penetrate their defences are a few Che t-shirts and a winning smile-think people! What is most unsettling about this story is the way it is swallowed wholesale by millions with not one critical thought.

  • Spinoza, don't burst my bubble!! I was so happy to see the great work done by the fantastic Colombian Army, first in Ecuador, now with Ingrid, and all of this under the rejection of the free trade agreement between Bush and Uribe. I guess I'll go back to my regular news where I care about Britney's Latte and Lindsay's nipples. Why some many people watch TV and still call that news is puzzling. It's like thinking about masturbation as sex. Please don't wake them up, they may think, and that hurts

  • hey gurudev7833 for sure we all know and "viva le france" but every body supports their couse with the means presented and dont for get the french fries were for a menut freedom fries.

    socialismo o muerte;and without fear.

    i think.

  • To galaktar:

That would be pretty normal he does it every day in the world

  • Pretty bad information what you get USA has invested a huge ammount of technology to support Uribe It is inminent for the imperialist to have place in the middle of South America were they can base more troops and logistics This is not an acomplishment of the Colombian goverment it is just a way of selling out their country to the insterest of the North American invenstors This will only help the rich and never the poor for which another stonger guerrilla will be created sooner or later.Watch

  • what the hell are you talking about? what needs to happen, is for you to get educated properly.

  • And whom are you talking about? Mr. Salvadorian is the only person that has half a brain pertaining to this story... Read in between the lines people! Research more before making comments on something you know nothing about....

  • Remember if you get kidnaped outside the US do not COUNT on our goverment for anything. We had a 3rd world country army bringing our folks back. FUCK BUSH AND THIS administration!!!...

  • yes, its very sad the silence of us goverment and media. its obvious that Colombian Goverment wanted to bring them back, i was very worried about the US citizens because that jungle is a very hostile enviroment for them and their resistence to tropical diseases could be poor.

  • What exactly would you say if Bush HAD gone into Columbia and extracted the hostages by force? You'd be crying bloody murder.

Can't eat your cake and have it too.

  • THE WAY that our news media is flooding the press with "congratulations to the Colombian government" and the manner in which so many foolish people are eating that up (as can be seen by their repetition of that mantra) is enough for anyone who has been studying Latin America to know that something is fishy. FARC was considering freeing hostages at the behest of Chavez. It now seems like Uribe and the Colombian government are trying to take all the credit for what was a friendly release.

  • WHAT???? are u drunk??? read and watch news ok?

  • Thank you Colombia!

Betomas, you read the news pretty selectively. Chavez' efforts had stopped months ago when it was discovered that he was using his negotiator position to plot with FARC and undermine President Uribe internationally.

Bajalocom, stop kidding yourself. You wouldn't support US troops being dispatched to retrieve every US citizen that gets kidnapped. Plenty of other reasons to criticize this administration- don't water them down by making BS statements like this...

  • jpnuttal, reading the news selectively is a reflection of critical thinking. Believing that something did not happen because you did not watch it on TV (e.g., Chavez' efforts stopped) is a sign of our times. I hate to disappoint you but Mickey Mouse is not a true rodent, and US troops do a lot of things most are unaware of. That Ms. Betancourt is a free woman is a very good thing. Believing the illusion the media is selling around the story is not that great. Happy Disney vacation!!

  • It makes no sense what betomas says. According to Reyes's laptop, chávez would have given 300 million USD to the farc so they freed to hostages to him. To president correa of Ecuador, they would've promised the son's of Montoya to be given. They do so to give cretdit to the leftist goverments of chavez and correa, and to illegitimate the colombian goverment.

Farc would never do anything that would give popularity to Uribe, so what you say makes no sense.

  • FARC is evil incarnate. They have lost track of any ideals they may have at one time been pursuing, and are now simply guard dogs for drug cartels. 15 hostages freed? how about the other 700? These hostages aren't soldiers, they're simply civilians who's families the FARC believe they can extort money from.

  • Goodness! the people who responded to my comment, like dianapad, jpnut, and camilocuesta are TOOLS with a capital "T." I study the media as a whole as part of my job and I can tell you for a fact that the media, especially the news media, LIES to everyone to fulfill economic and political agendas. to the three people i mentioned above: I feel sorry for you guys in that you do not question authority. Camilo, do you really buy that easily made up story about Chavez giving FARC 300M. u tool!

  • Cmon, the media occasionally uses political and economic to fullfill an agenda, but the fact that u want to reject the fact that Chavez has helped the FARC is stupid! Interpol has imperical evidence that Chavez hass helped the rebles. Fox news or MSNBC, for example, did not accuse Chavez blindly, rather they used interpols report on the matter. So what B.S. are u gona come up with now. I think ur the TOOL with a capital "T".

  • Hooligan, I also agree with you in that socialism is a failed system, just as monarchy, anarchy, communism, and any other -ism of your choice. But, what is a successful system? Democracy? Chavez and Correa were both elected and, if their election was rigged as many argue (and I simply don't know) then that should also tell you something about democracy, shouldn't it? They do not represent failed systems. They are a failure as leaders and belong in jail. We'll talk about systems another time.

  • Excellent commentary, Fuster. While democracy has it's flaws, perhaps you've witnessed first hand the tragic toll "isms" have taken AGAINST people who are just as entitled to the unmatched liberties we enjoy here in the U.S. I certainly have...

  • Elainebird, as a matter of fact, sadly, I have witnessed more than I wanted. What I believe is that we are slowly loosing those unmatched liberties in the US in the hands of intolerance and lack of insight. People easily persuaded by media lost their ability to see through others' opinions and rarely have their own. Screaming Muerte a Chavez is similar to saying Viva Chavez in this context, there is no analysis done, pure empty rhetoric. It takes a little more than CNN (or FOx) to be informed.

  • Stupid nick name like stupid ideas. So is succesful system Capitalism? We can see What happened in Africa, in Latin America, in Asia, even in USA where 30 milion people lives with cupons. The first attempt for another system, socialism was failed, but there will be a second round. Capitalism passes 400 years to be strong enouph, who will wait that socialism could succed in 70 years with the way that takes?

  • Dear Sir

How funny your comment.....it perfectly know - that you do not know Colombia

  • Dear laramuc

How funny your English. What exactly is to "know" Colombia? To live there? To read about it? To visit and then to read news about it? Discussing international politics and news coverage has little to do with Colombia. And if you happen to think that this is "just a Colombian affair", I certainly respect your opinion, and will concede that you do "know" about Colombia. Just leave understanding to others.

  • I get it...u r a TOOL with a capital "T" of the Chavista movement....Now i get why u say the media lied to the public about the situation. Your just angry because Chavez got the rug pulled out of his feet.

  • Hooligan, of course socialism is dead and most definitively Chavez and Correa are using it to keep their pockets full and their people poor. I hope one day the FARC are pulverized and Colombians go back to a free and non-violent society. But mass media is a different issue. Believing Fox news or MSNBC when they cite an Interpol report (Interpol has little to do with international politics, it's the CIA) is what keep people numb and the problem (these pseudo-populist dictators) alive.

  • Thanks Columbia and God Bless; They are life and come back to them family; Good luck

  • Congratulations to the Colombian Army and President Uribe! Colombia and Peru always together!

  • Yay! What a happy ending! I hope her children take good care of her.

  • callaté sopenco ignorante¡¡

  • thank you columbia...

  • Ariestheramone; ...so, do you think we all here in Colombia care, are preocupied or are interested in the whereabouts of some political candidate from another country, like john McCain? Wow, are you really arrangant, aren´t you? Who told you that we are doing things in Colombia to pleaase every American secret desire or political agenda?

You sound like all the lunatics in your country that finds Roswell conspiracies and UFO theories behind every military movement.

  • Congratulations to Colombian Army.

  • Congratulation to POUM

  • why POUM?

  • Deaht to rebels!

  • Nearly no one, and certainly not the news reports the first few minutes of her speech (for those who saw it live know) That the FIRST thing she said was her thanks to GOD and the Virgin Mary in her prayers.. and at the end of her speech her and the others around all knelt and PRAYED in thanks...

  • yeah for sure we all know it was a great rescue on behalf of the colombian military but for this its a reminder to any revolutianries out there that it is too a sichologycal warfare and the revolution must go on.

    socialismo o muerte; i think.

  • The FARC call themselves "socialists", do you support them ? I am French and to me they are terrorists. I know it is the "official/politically correct" word accepted in the West but "socialism" is for me about "freedom and help" not about "imprisonment".

Not everybody in Colombia has a "socialist aspiration", would you advise "imprisoning them all", I think "socialism o muerte" sounds "totalitarian" although you think it's for the good of everybody. To me social democracy is more open.

  • this was all made by the colombian army, not by stupid chavez or piedad cordoba.

  • I bet the government negotiated their release.

  • Ah, the conspiracy nuts keep making conspiracies up. Congratulations on being a tool.

  • You will find out who the real tools are, only after it's too late. Stop being a sheep.

  • thats true

  • Am happy for colombian people. they are defeating those thugs badly named revolutionaries.

  • "Revolutionaries"?

WTF do you believe the US Revolution against the British Crown was? A civil disobedience or something? You people are Mind boggling to say the least.

  • I live in South Florida and it saddens me that the only network currently reporting any news on this is CNN. These 3 Americans are the longest held American hostages in history. We should show them a little more consideration the Colombian networks have been running live footage all day long. I am also Colombian and right now I have to say that I feel a great sense of pride in the Colombian military & in President Urribe. He has truly been a blessing for Colombia.

  • Actually it is Uribe, not Urribe, LOL. but w/e, who cares.

I feel really proud of my country for the operation to rescue the 3 Americans, Betancourt and the Colombian hostages who have been suffering for a very long time.

This show the dedication of our country to serve the world and make it a better place. Proud of my country for the great service that has done to the world today. Thanks to Uribe and the brave honorable soldiers for their service.

  • God bless colombian Army

  • Sure God has not something more interesting to do than thinks about Colombian Army.

  • That poor woman , she was probably rapped and now suffers from really bad post traumatic stress disorder .
