  • Wasn't fond of the reverse on test!!

  • @Dual0wner1 i passed my hgv with go a head too but class 2 lol and still no work i passed in 4 /11/ 2010

  • cheers mate driving class 2 at mo did 400 mile round trip around buckinghamshire, oxfordshire and cambridgeshire yesterday, slept in the cab at night, i worked 15 hours yesterday not driving for 10 hours the rest was break and other work, having today off, i'm knackered today

  • I'm thinking of doing my lgv as redundancy looms. But is it worth it? My only experiance is with big(agricultural) tractor- trailer combos. So even if I did pass, how would I start?

  • @Dual0wner1 no bother mate :) search lgv hgv in wiki :)

  • @Dual0wner1 A large goods vehicle (also LGV, formerly and informally heavy goods vehicle or HGV)

  • @TruckerDoox lgv is large goods vehicle and hgv is hevey goods vehicle lol

  • on a serious note lads and lasses DO not part with over a grand for your HGV lessons and test. the scham is you ring a firm and they own NO trucks Or the instructors are Retired drivers who are NOT D.S.A. registered there is no guarenteed pass No such thing at all...........!!! Be careful.... There are training providers who include CPC with your courses all in the Grand you pay.. Be fussy its your money !! remember ? no picture certificate with instructors details No cash handover.........

  • lads and lasses on a serious note !! if your doing your HGV ? dont use any bodys company that quotes over a grand for this course ?? ask for DSA registrations and credibility of company.. dont use the middle man and companys that DO not have there own trucks !! its a rogue old world.. good hunting.. and remember D.S.A. qualification or no Grand Handover................................................................

  • past my class 1 on 17th november 2010, still know job i've applied for about 50 jobs and nothing, even most of the agencies dont want to know as soon as you say that you've go no experience they just say need 2 years experience, how the hell are you meant to get experience if know one will give you the chance, i've been applying for class 1 and class 2 jobs, going to sign up for an agency in runcorn dont know if they will find me work hopefully

  • @ozy1970 sorry to here that ozy keep trying buddy you will get something sooner or later just lie to them say you have got experience just to get in the door you know lol . i know what its like i spent all that cash on my class 1 and cant get any decent class 1 job anywhere in my area. currently driving class 2 its ok but would prefer a class 1 job with a volvo fh unit lol :) but cant ever see that happening ;(

anyway good luck ozy hope you find something very soon mate

    keep in touch

    TD.....

  • @TruckerDoox i have just passed my hgv class 2 on 4/11/2010 and i cant get a job lol evn tho thay are saying that thay r crying out for drivers i whant to know were lol iam form forfar north of dundee i did my hgv with go a head lol thanks

  • @lorrydriveruk well done mate. ah sorry to here that . i found it hard also to try and get a start anywhere but you will get something for sure . have you tried any agencies yet ?

  • @TruckerDoox yes i have m8 2 of them lolone called key pesernel thay just truned me away because of my age and driver hire still no work lol

  • @lorrydriveruk I done my HGV in December 08 (class2) then my class 1 (c+e) in May 10, cant get a job with any of them, everyone says there are loads of jobs for truck drivers but no one wants to take you on if you have no experience and you cant get experience unless you have a job, it's rubbish, I'm in Glasgow and cant even get an agency to give me a courier job doin multi drop driving in a van lol, it's pathetic !

  • @ozy1970 mate if you got a start nice one only i got plenty of work just not the class 1 ( yet ) get yourself around to all the regional distribution centres for any magor retail chain and you will pick up a bit of work ! you will only get paid tuppence but will gain the valuable experience !!!!

  • @ozy1970

It is hard at first, the best way to do it is to say that you will do class 2 work until you build up their trust , within a few months they should start to give you class 1 work

  • man i got to get a job!

  • So you have learned how to pass the driving test - now get out there and learn to reverse and drive properly. This reversing scenario relates to very little in the real world and only exists in the mind of a ministry suit who probably struggles reversing his car!

  • i passed my class 2 on 30th of september 2010, 3rd time lucky for me, i took my test at llay near wrexham well that was the test centre, he took me to chester on my test. wrexham test centre has only 32.9% pass rate, start my class 1 training on 25th of october, that will be hard

  • @ozy1970 well done ozy :) good luck with your class 1 not long to go now :)

  • @TruckerDoox thanks mate, i passed my class 1 c+e today with 3 minors, the wind and rain was well bad but i got through in the end,

  • @ozy1970 congrats ozy good marks well done mate :)

  • @TruckerDoox thanks mate, just got to find a job now, thinking about getting job driving class 2 first just get abit more experience driving big wagons on the road before going onto driving class 1

  • @ozy1970

Small world, I passed their in 2008 - 6 minors! 850 quid and still no job! Gotta love the UK!

  • @dofbeer i know what you mean been looking at jobs everyone says experienced drivers only, how the hell are you going to get experience when know one is willing to give new drivers a chance, think i'll end up stacking shelves in asda, could be £2000 down the drain

  • Good luck to all you taking any LGV/HGV..Well done if you passed..Hope to see you at the Truck Stops sometime...

  • @geordiecop alrite mate, passed the theory no prob 93/100 just got to wait on a date now for the hazard then sit module 2 before i can drive.the company im doing it with send u for ur tests separate just so its not to much pressure on us lol.

  • I have been waiting since April this year for a place at Wigan HGV Traing Center for my class 1 and 2..Phoned me up to say we will have you in on the 4th september to asses your driving to see how lesson you will need,I was well pleased ..I said "This is me" im off..Phoned me 2 days later..Some fucking arsehole set fire to a yard near to the training center and their trucks caught fire..Now have to wait till the insurance pays out..Gutted or what

  • i passed my class 1, 7 yrs ago, never had to shunt on reverse exersize, only 1 minor fault, i was well chuffed

  • I heard on a radio 5 live that alot of people go abroad (in the EU) and pass the test (no questions asked), then come back with the license. instead of failing upteen times in england. is this true, has anyone done it?

    p.s. i hear greece is where it's at. :)

  • I passed my class 2 in 2005. Soon after that I found a job. But class 1 just seems elusive to me. I never manage to pass it. Every instructor I go with, says I am a good driver. But its just the test which I cant manage to pass. I have tried my level best. Everything goes fine during the test. Examiners just get me on one thing, put it down as a serious fault, and I am out. I gave up trying an year ago, but lately been thinking of giving it another shot once again. Appreciate any input. Thanks.

  • @asimsparks i've had this problem with my class 2. i can't seem to pass it. my last drive was really good, but the examiner failed me anyway. i gave trying 2 years ago. purfleet and enfield test centres are the worse test centres. i've been on several online forum which back up this claim (especially enfield). try and do it in another area. all the test routes for all test centres are online.

  • ***** Very Cool James *****

    Nice to meet You.

    Raíssa (Brasil).

  • I passed my class 1 the other day. I had to shunt once, but thats the only minor I got, I had a great drive on the road.

  • @southForzaMK2 well done mate :)

  • @southForzaMK2 im going for my class 2 and class 1 im just waiting to sit my theory and all that lot. what is the course like mate?

  • I did my training with a1 road craft in Salisbury. the one big advantage is salisbury is a small city and I you can cover all the tests routes over and over which is a big help compared to larger citys. Just enjoy it mate thats what i did take it all in and listen to your instuctor. if you get something wrong do it again until you get it right. With me the best thing was making mistake because you will learn from them. oh keep looking in your mirrorsthey are hot on this trust me and good luck.

  • @GuyMcmillan87..On the Theory and Hazzard..If you put the hours in revising them you should sail through pal.I was panicking more about the Hazzard one.Been waiting since April. But the place i was taking my lessons their Trucks got burnted out.But good luck lets us know how your getting on..

  • That's Errol airfield? My brother trained with Alec Mcara and practised their. I trained with Scania in Newbridge and practised my reversing in a cramped yard in Bathgate. Made the test revese seem really easy!

  • Hi yes that is errol airfield perth scotland. alec mcara i remember seeing them when i was training up at perth they have yellow trucks if am not wrong ?

  • I passed my class 1 a couple of months ago. Nailed the reverse exercise in one move without any forward shunts, 2 minor faults. Well pleased. I had 12 minors on the class 2!

  • well done buddy. same as me mate i never took any shunts on class 1 got it in ONE :)

  • i was taught, if the examiner asks why you're looking through the rear window which i had on my tractor unit, and trailor was a flat bed) then to reply "because i can"

  • Your not meant to cross the white line with the wheels of the tractor? Are can u be on the line?

  • passed class 1 today 2 minor faults.2 hours later i went out to load up a trailor for somebody and felt so much more confident out on the road.reversing in to load stuck my head out the window and probebly broke every rule there is

  • lmao this sounds like me

  • whats the cpc qualification like? im looking into getting my licence but is work really that hard to get?

  • Depends where you are in the country. I'm in the midlands and have found plenty of agency work having passed my class 2 in September. Apparently there's more for Class 1. As for the CPC, if you passed your car test before 1997 then you don't have to do the inital CPC, you have aquired rights. If not then it's another written test and questions added on to the end of the practical.

  • @hollysophieleah

CPC has nothing to do with passing your car test.

As an LGV driver, you have grandfather rights if you passed you LGV test (Class 1 or 2) before August 2009.

  • I passed my test in the class 1 3 months ago and have written off to loads of companies to see if they requires second drivers for long journeys to get the driver and lorry back in one go. Def worth doing though, u have to keep ure nerve when u start learning though,

  • ok passingthe test. no-one wants new drivers though!!!! Waste of your time and money. I've been passed for 2 years now and not a sniff!!

  • know how you feel mate ive been passed my class 1 two years now and cant find anything decent. so am back driving class 2 now part time :)

  • Drive a rigid atm test tomz for class 1 looking forward to it like a trip to dentist ffs.

  • im on a salry i work 48 hours 5 days over 7 home every night and im on just short of 29 grand a year

  • im a hgv class 1 driver and i fucking hate it long hours i start at 2am and dont get back in the house till around 16;00 no life shit shit shit !!!! moneys ok though !!!

  • Haw much you on? if thats ok to ask ;)

  • Your can shunt forward twice if you need to on test but i managed to get it in the box in one go on mine ha ha

  • Im thinking of doing my HGV test, something different...is it really hard to be a lorry driver?

  • its not too hard if your a confident driver but getting a job is another story in the uk at the moment .

  • stary robisz to jak bys dopiero pierwsza jazde:/ nie widze ciebie na M 25

  • very well reversed m8.. u got the class 1 a job will come along soon.. goood luck and just look forward to those open roads ur be on soon :)

  • so what do you do when you are finished with training in your country? do you go to a firm and ride with a trainer? if so how long?

  • When you finish your training you take your test and if you pass then get a job somewhere with an agency / company but its easer said than done . i am currently out of work and cant find anything decent in my area.

  • Sorry to hear that. Thanks for the info, Mostly the same here.

  • no worrys mate yeah its the same everwhere no good at all but :( but al keep looking hopfully somthing turns up soon :) cheers take care.

  • Really good drive and exercises, but cocked it up once and it was enough for the dreaded serious, quite gutted, but im confident on passing 2 time, booked for 4th august :)

  • ah not to worry you will be fine next time am sure :)

good luck let us know :)

  • Im driving my rigid like I would drive a artic, obv not at junctions, etc. But I am thinking alot more about planning and awareness, I will only have a couple hours to refresh before my test so hopefully i wont miss anything out :)

  • I have my c + e test tomorrow, im fairly confident, just hope it all goes ok? I hope it was a student that shunted there? I dont intend on shunting and using a minor point

  • good luck today mate :)

  • Thanks alot mate :)

  • passed my ce last week. failed first time on recoupling the trailer, gutted! happy now though...........3 minors, get in there!

  • well done mate :)

  • i past 4 year ago first time best feeling ever wi 3 minors dunt matter if you get 14 minors a pass is a pass well done lads !!

  • Nice work m8 i am 30 and have been driving a class c lorry for about 10 years , but i am saving up to do the C+E TEST, cant wait but it looks tricky, good drivin anyway

  • thanks yeah you should like its good i love driving an artic :)

  • hey ive always wanted to be a truck driver, im 16 now and i dont know wheere to start once ive left school? i cant get a c +e till 21 so would i just drive a van at 17 or something to save up?

  • Just passed yesterday with 3 minors even happier days!

  • very good mark mate well done :)

  • Brings back memories. Takes a while though to get that confidence needed to do the job commercially. A lot of experienced drivers still haven't got a clue how to set up a lorry for an awkward reverse. You need good perception, an eye for it.

  • just passed my test.. 5 minors.......happy days

  • well done buddy.

  • I passed with 6 minors good well done mate.

  • I passed my C+E Test on 30th April it was such a relief. I got 5 minors which i was happy about just so hard trying to get work as no one wants to employ you as they want 2 years experience.

  • well done 5 points very good mark mate :) its the same everywhere but keep trying you will get something .

    TD

  • thanks. thats good mate hope you do it good luck . let us know how you get on

    TD

  • I have just failed my artic today, was gutted, i got 4 minors when out on the road but i fucked up on the reverse and got a serious fault, very angry

  • ah sorry to here that bess429 . 4 minors is very good though unlucky on the reverse :( my mate done the exact same thing failed before he even left the test center nippy like eh . next time pal you will do it . now get that retest booked haha. :)

    Doox.

  • Great to hear all you guys passed.I am about to do my c+e trainning in Munich.Been in Germany for 3 years now intended to go home to scotland to sit the test as i have class c but european law passed ot the 17 jan this year makes you sit the test in which country you are living in.The German way seems to be a long haul but hope to get there may be even see some of you lot on the road.Vid is very helpfull and I will remember to follow your advice.Take it slow and take a shunt cheers

  • good luck mate with your c+e let us know how you get on.

    james.

  • Just passed C+E in Germany.God German is so hard to understand but got there in the end.1st time thanks for all the good vids and the advice John.

  • well done buddy and thanks :)

  • @sergiesmax1 i was with a colleague who passed in germany. are they more forgiving than england test examiners?

  • @hume12345 Sorry mate but no they are not.Not in the Munich area anyway so I cant speek for all of Germany. What I can say is, try to stay calm, keep a clear head and think about the job in hand.I cant say the examiners are more forgiving here but what I can say is If I can pass my test in German and Ive been here nearly 5 years now and had to learn from scratch You can do it back home no probs good luck think drive and just relax

  • Good video TruckerDoox and good piece of reversing. One cut. Think that might be me sitting on barrier watching you. Our MAN artic unit is sadly going away next week to be replaced with a new IVECO! Can't win them all. Good luck in your trucking. Dibble

  • Hey hello mate hope your doing good did you ever here how the other guy got on did he pass ?

  • Hi TruckerDoox, getting on fine. Working part time now with GoAhead Training which suits me fine and gives me the chance to other things. The other chap called Scott got a serious on a roundabout in Perth. Keep an eye on the little old dear in the green Clio - she will come from nowhere!!

  • Hi dibble thats good .haha will keep an eye out for little old dear lol. thats not so good for scot hope hes doing ok .

its a pitty i never got some more videos of me and scot while we were doing out training :)

  • I had to do a backing up thing like this once. WAS so much fun. MORE fun to watch you.

  • This was the only bit I could do OK. It was going forwards that I had trouble with!

  • That video brings back memories of driving school..

  • who's the dude doing the reverse, and how did they get on?

  • can't remember the guys name he failed his test first time same as me but never seen him again after that . i made this video at errol air field perthshire scotland.

    TD

  • least you passed, thats the main thing, liked your other vid on the uncoupling, shame about the light, really need someone to hold your cam in the day lol

  • lol i remmber doing this test in 1991 and was pissing my pants.....

i passed and iam now a transport manager and still take LGV out

  • give us a job then lol

  • i posted a comment(dalehowse)changed my username anyway passed my class 1 3/11/2008 with 3 minors but i did fail the first 2 so dont give up if you fail you will pass it..

  • well done m8 :)

  • does any one know which book is best for a pocket guide to digital tacho laws and whos sales best footwear at fair price

  • There's no shame in a shunt.

  • good luck guys :)

    TD

  • Got me class 1 training this week (16/10/2008) and my test on Wednesday paping myself!!!!!!!

  • used them shunts, if means you passing, my husband did used one, passed three minors, i wish you good luck

  • Got my class 1 test tomorrow. Was warned about Qualitas, so went with Eastern in Birmingham.

passed my class 2 with 2 minors, so fingers crossed for tomorrow.

  • did you passed?

qualitas are also sneaky in extra charges, for insurance and more, gurantee pass is a load of bull.

  • Passed today with 5 minors

  • well done, my hubby got offer a job , five days after passing and guess what ,m he's stuck at dover, as french had 6 hour strike lol, thought he be home soon, guess good comes with the bad, anyway well done

  • done class 2 with qualitas, in old lorry, training was poor, so for class 1 artic went with kent metro, training one to one , richard my trainer was great and i passed 1st time with 3 minors.

qualitas are rubbish, go with kent metro.

  • I passed rigid with qualitas, on 4th attempt

training was poor, so decided to do artic with kent metro in hoo kent

they were one to one training and richard , the trainer was fantastic, so to all who read this steer clear of qualitas or by there other name sterling and go with KENT METRO

good luck to all doing lgv tests.

  • passed me class 2 a couple of weeks ago, waiting for me license to come back then doin me class 1, absolutely caking me self. lol nice vid too!

  • Well Done m8 . you be fine pal :) good luck let us know how u get on .

    TD.

  • well done m8 . hope they let you :) who pays for it the company or the driver ? lol :)

  • Got my C+E training this week withthe test on Friday. Nervous as hell about the reverse. This video is a great help to see which way to steer to push the trailer ut etc!

  • How did it go ? I start my C+E course next week, nervous as hell ! It's ages since i passed my C and i don't have much experience with it. I don't know what to expect from the C+E.

  • Hi. I passed 1st time last Friday. I found it a lot easier that the C class. I found the articulation made the rig easier to manouvre. Once I sussed the reverse out!! Don't let nerves get the better of you! That heppened to me on my Cat C and I had to take the test four times!! Let me know how you get on, and good luck!

  • Well i passed 2nd time, i failed the 1st because it was at 2:30pm on a saturday, peak of summer and the roads were fucking impossibe in Darlington town center ! I passed with The Stiller Academy and they took me on driving flat beds until they lost the Corus steel contract and laid me off. I do bits and bobs of acency work nowadays which sucks. Thinking about venturing down south in 2009 as theres more opportunities there.

  • i passed today with 4 minors, 2 for undue hesitation and 2 for blindspot when pulling away. cant believe it :) first time woooo

  • Thats a good mark m8 well done now the learning really starts :)

    congrats m8

    keep on trucking

    TD

  • yea im only 22, hehe

  • There is heaps of work for drivers in UK. The job seems to pay quite well compared to other occupations, especially if you dont mind being away from home all week or month lol... Most of the big companies are screaming out for drivers, you can pick and choose what you drive and what sort of work to do i found. Turners paid for several dozen NZ drivers to fly over, do the training and tests and work fulltime. As with any job its up to you to sell yourself to employer

  • I had a rip off company called Sterling LGV who said they had a training centre in Bolton which was an old lorry parked up in the street. I spent my life saving on an intensive course for Class 2 and took out their unlimited attempts insurance for an extra 300 quid. I failed the test 9 times and complained to them about the low standard of training and they didn't want to know. The unlimited insurance was only 4 free attempts and I still had to pay for the test fees! Sterling are Con Merchants

  • i passed first time with sterling in Enfield, i just did the basic class 2, the lorry was a 52plate iveco eurocargo, with 4 knoc over 4 box, was quite good instructor, i went with Boston LGV for my class 1, because they use artic unit not wagon and drag like sterling

  • That is interesting and it just shows that it all comes down to the person training you or not as in my case where the trainer guy sat around all the burger bars all day chatting. My Iveco had been around the clock and had 6 gears. The 1st gear was almost impossible to engage. Anyway I'm glad Sterling in Enfield didn't rip you off. No-one ever passes with the Bolton trainer in the 12 months that I trained with him no-one ever passed with him and I pointed this fact out to Sterling who ignored me

  • Yea, sterling are not that good a company, i did have some issues, as the person who i had to train with nearly killed us (pulled out in front of an artic doing 40mph) because he missed the brake pedal and hit the accelerator! I did not feel i could train with this person, but sterling didnt care! But at least i passed the other person failed before leaving the test centre!

  • I know what you mean I had to train with Polish and Asian students who were very bad drivers. I failed on test 1 (not applying air brake at stop sign in test centre) 2, hitting a twig on a hedge, 3, allowing an artic to overtake me on a dual carridgeway,4,not getting first gear, 5, doing 31mph in a 30mph, 6, doing 28mph in a 30mph, 7, doing 15mph around a tight corner, 8, applying airbrake at lights, 9, chasing and running the cheif examiner over when I lost it with him for his bad attitude.

  • Got my Class1 (Cat C+E) next friday, in peterborough with Boston LGV, the truck is easy to drive (glad there is no gear change excercise, like i did in my class 2 (Cat C), been practising my reversing, hopefully should be fine on that, but peterborough is so hard to drive round! LOL

  • Fuck agencys ive had nothing but problems im after a ft job

  • same here m8 ive had nothing but problems and driving crap trucks its shit . would love a ft job with a nice truck of my own too do up with lights etc :) how good would that be :) lol

  • Hey all thinking about becoming a HGV driver is it really good pay or not in the uk? i heard it can be 500 a week not sure if thast to good to be true though

  • Hi

yeah m8 it is possible to earn £500 pw in the UK :)

    TD.

  • if you can get work that is lol ive not had any work in the last 2 weeks f***** agenceys eh :(

  • Got my class 1 on wed!

  • well done m8 :)

  • driving a truck out on the road is a harder job than you think the non hgv drivers of cars and motor bikes should try be in our shoes before they moan about us hgv drivers and to be honest most hgv drivers are far better drivers than a car drivers anyway!

  • totaly agree with youon that one m8 :)

  • have a c+e licence for 6yrs...it aint worth toffee in the uk, no respect from any1 & insulting pay for long hours. get a job driving europe. now thats more like it!

  • Great Video truckerdoox. Failed in culham Jan 08 on my first attemt for touching grass verge with n/s atric wheel while straightening up for the box. Guess what I should have done? Taken a shunt.Got a retest 8/4/08 Seems many good students fail on the reverse simply because they want to do it in one go. My advice is use your 2 shunt allowance if you have to and as as the saying goes: Dont be a c*nt take a shunt!!

  • thanks. ah better luck next time m8 hope you do it :)

  • Passed today Thu 10/4 as original on Tue 8/10 got cancelled by DSA. Didn't need a shunt :) credit to your video. Thanks once again for this invaluable resource.

  • congrats m8 and thanks .

    keep on trucking

  • Hi all, Passed my C+E last week at the second attempt, messed up the reverse the first time. My advice would be as long as you get the trailer round the 'b' cone you are sorted. if you are too wide or too narrow just remember to shunt forward and get lined up as you were taught. Dont forget you can have at least 2 shunts - use them! good luck everyone.

  • well done :)

  • i took your advice and used my shunts, passed this friday gone with 3 minors, great advice
