If anyone is in Toronto, the AGO just opened a comparative show of Freud's and Rembrandt's etchings. All the black and white pieces in your video are there, and more. It's a fascinating comparison.
We forget that until Mr. Freud had that marvelous show at the Metropolitan Museum about ten years ago, the figure in painting was considered retrograde. He has changed the climate of the art world since then. But alas more changes are needed.
he is able to really capture the essence of what exactly that person is at that moment its like an emotion snapshot it doesnt only look like the model but also feels like them

Lucian Freud is so great, I saw some of his works you have included in this vid on a Museum in Haag, Holland. I just couldn't stop looking at them. He has a penetrating way to see into his models and it's as if he "nudes" their souls while painting... I can't explain it very well, I'm lost for words! Not to mention I really like Radiohead, I think you did a magnificent video! ^_^ Good luck with your own work!
Freud is not the worst artist around, but certainly is far beneath the wide acclaim he garners. There are too many shortfallings to list. Most of the works are very awkward, and not in a good way. Most lack structure, composition, and 'metier'. Some of the drawings are so bad that they look like 1st year drawing student work. The paint handling is often atrocious and slimy. Mostly, he is famous because of his name.
i love this song. I'm doing a study on lucian freud. I can't find that many images of his paintings...i mean ones of good quality. Where did you get yours?
He is a great artist. It's about been courageous , the subject matter etc. technique you get (if ) you have the talent through graft ten hours a day! It takes guts to expose a 350lbs woman or a thin dudes block & tackle ! Keep on painting ....
I work long hours at the moment and spend my free time doing the comedy sketches on my channel. I wish I had more time! In art school I had all the time in the world to paint, but now, I could probably only find a few hours a week. Also, I paint in oils and I dont think it's a good idea to paint in my one bedroom flat. Maybe it's okay? I worry about the fumes.
I spent a huge portion of my life not painting and suddenly it started happening and I found my self putting in 16 hour days and actually getting somewhere. Perhaps it's a mistake to force it too much.
Also I'm sure you've heard of odour free oils and of course there's always acrylics.
I admire Freud`s talent but as someone said before is the medium that saves him. Altough I would add that character, the character he puts in his works, is another of his qualities. His drawing may not be "correct" or refined but it`s really original and that`s what counts.
I keep thinking that Freud´s paintings would make pretty bad photographs. It is really the medium that saves him. Like his famous grandpa his view of people is so ... clinical. When I see his nudes I feel like I am in a ginecologists office. His art does not go beyond direct observation,- he doesn´t paint people, he paints meat.
If I were to give Freud a nickname, he´d be the ´´doctor´´´or the´´butcher´´.
For admirers of Lucian Freud i want to report a wonderful italian artist: Giovanni Gasparro (search his name on Google, where you can also read the interview for the web magazine Cannibali)
Lucien Freud is amazing! Startling portraiture. He has the "cojones" to paint with "muddy" colors! And what a draftsman! he influenced some of my early work. thanks for the video!
the baby boy i dreamt of exhaled warm pleasing air. his long slim body was charged with vital force. the body surface: blue and red, littered with haematoma. he smiled happily. he let me hold him for a second, he smiled his foreign smile, twisted slightly and went over to the wall. he must have been not older than five months.
My Style? Erm, this is work by Lucian Freud, he's one of the most popular British painters around, he's in his 80's now, and i'm only 17 and draw Manga (which can found in my other video's). None of this stuff is mine.

I disagree, ikravichk. The portrait of Francis Bacon at the :57 second mark has great soul.

Yeah he is incredible, I love the intensity of his work. He influenced my drawing style whilst I was getting used to portraits.
I've recently uploaded a tribute to Jenny Saville, who's painting style is very much influenced by Freud.
