  • This song is from an Album called "From the Inside" really...it's one of my all time favorite albums. Not a bad song on that entire album.....that was common for a lot of the groups in the 60's 70's......

  • Why you come to such and obscure and yet titilating video and bother to post a negative repsone? This band is a blueprint.

  • saw them in manchester in 1974 ish superb band, better than the eagles sure!

  • Ritchie Furay from Buffalo Springfield, Timothy B. Schmitt Before the Eagles, Paul Cotton from Illinois speed press... and Rusty ... yeah great players..

  • REAL MUSICIANS , HARMONIES YES !

  • luv it

  • I think the song "Thunder Road" you're looking for is actually called" Legend"

  • don't forget Rusty Young on slide guitar

  • 6 Dislikes. All Eagles fans I bet.

  • @WalterHcH13 Country Rock is the genre

  • Just seen Poco tonight...totally fantastic....the only problem was they didnt play long enough...isnt that alwyays the case??????

  • This was a fun feel good jam!

  • Yeah Poco, Great band , I love this stuff. I have been a musician for 40 years and they have always been one of my favorites for this genre of music!!!

  • nice song, perfect voice, beautiful chords, great band,

    I'm from Perú

Could someone tell me is that musical style?

sorry if my English is not so good...

  • This is MY FAv kibd of music!

  • I fell in love with this band as a kid. I must have seen them 20 times. They toured so much. They did a great live show. So good to see this. Timothy was my favorite, what a voice!

  • Great!!!!

  • The absolute best Poco lineup.

  • @GregDrayGregDray Yea, that's what I was thinking watching this. Is that really Jim Messina on the tele?

  • @dickidoo123 No that is Paul Cotton on the telecaster Jim Messina was long gone by this point. It was unusual for Paul to use a telecaster though.

  • CANTAMOS is a great album. CRAZY EYES is also good. A GOOD FEELIN' TO KNOW is a "Masterpiece"

  • Somebody put up "Calico Lady" Best harmonies ever

  • @connecticutskier owww i love that song too and Honky tonk downstairs

  • Loved Poco, Buffalo Springfield, Souther, Hillman, Furay they never got the success that other bands they came before like the Eagles (now I love the Eagles) but these bands came before them. In fact Souther wrote songs with Frey and Henley and Timothy ended up with the Eagles, Wish they had been more successful they were all so good

  • Rusty's pedal steel .. Dobro playing is always noteworthy.

  • Probably my favorite Poco song. Dig the early line-up's sound, not so much the later stuff. Most people don't realize Meisner left the band for Rick Nelson & The Stone Canyon Band, not the Eagles. Talk about underrated...

  • If you want to have fun do this... Go into a "Country" bar and play Poco on the jukebox. The in-crowd will look at you like you just drug in a dead cat. I love playing good music on internet jukeboxes to people that dont listen to anything but top 40. Mix in a little Flying burrito bros. or Webb Pierce and see what happens. FM Country radio sucks goat ass nowdays. WSM is still awsome, or Sirius satalite radio.

  • Probably my favorite Poco tune. What a gem this song is. Poco was part of that wonderful late 60's-early 70's L.A. Country Rock scene. These guys were so good.

  • WOW you know you people gotta know that Poco is the best! I have been a fan and met them and loved their music since the early 70's.I have played guitar for over 35 years now and when I hear them it still thrills me.These guys are so good and so natural no one can touch them and especially NOT the eagles. I could never figure out why they were not the mega stars that the eagles became and it's weird because they are so much better,Well at least if U know the value of Poco... music at it's best !

  • For the guitar players - tune down 1/2 step to play the right chords and drop D. A, Amaj7, D, Dmaj7/ 2x, A, Amaj7, Bm, D, Dsus, D, E, Esus, E.

  • These guy's were the real deal. With a different set a circumstances they

would have been huge. One of my favorites

  • Went to see Poco in January 1971. Didn't know who the opening act was at the time I loved Poco. Richie Furay, Rusty Young, Timothy Schmidt, great music, great vocals. Of course the trio that performed before them was Dee Murray - Bass, Nigel Olsen - drums, Elton John - Piano. Still love Poco but that was a tough act to follow. It was prior to Elton becoming glammed out. That trio really could rock.

  • Wish it hadn't cut off the jam... :-)

  • Thank you for sharing this great video. Not only were they the best, this is such excellent quality.

  • Poco is my #1 favorite band. They always put a smile on my face. You go wildheart83. I saw Poco (during the 70s) more than 20 times in concert. Another great band in the 80s was the Desert Rose Band. Chris Hillman - lead vocals and John Jorgenson on lead guitar (one of the very best around).

    Thanks for this terrific post.

  • @Clancee7 - Yes! We recently saw Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen in Toronto. A great evening - intimate, small space, and just magic to watch and hear these two. Next year....marks 50 years as a pro musician for Chris Hillman...yet the guy looks really young!

  • POCO's music always leave me smiling . AMERICA and the EAGLES are good too.

  • Fantastic. Saw them live back in the day. This brings back those memories of the 70's. If only we could go back. Thank you for this one!

  • I loved this album back in the '70's and still do today.

  • Man these guys were knockin' the shit out of Country Rock music 38 years ago and were still posting about it!! Love Poco. Paul Cotton pickin'. And Timmy. Awesome post. Thanks alot!!!

  • Dig Timothy B. Schmidt on bass! Poco was like the Eagles' farm team - gave them both of their bassists.

  • Just me and my dad.......I love him sooo much

  • Poco rocks.... say no more

  • wildheart - you said it all!

  • Perfect.

  • ah its tim!

  • poco is so gooodd.

  • This is the song that got me hooked on Poco..

  • The pedal steel is pretty darn good too. Rusty switches to it when the camera's not on him. I love(d) these guys. Too bad nothing lasts forever.

  • Let's just say Gary Louris has listened to this.

    The dobro playing is killer.

  • Richie lives forerver .........beyond Bufallo Springfield.

  • Did the fellow playing the dobro also play pedal steel guitar for Poco? If he did, I heard a story that was kind of unbelieveable. What I heard was that there had never been a written lesson book for teaching pedal steel guitar until the player from Poco wrote one in the 1970's. I just find it hard to believe that no one ever wrote such a lesson book before then. If the story is true, cheers to him.

  • @mortygwhiz The fellow you're referring to, his name is Rusty Young and he doe's it all.

  • one of my favorite songs

  • Nice, memories baby-these guys were doing country rock when the Eagles were baby eaglets!

  • One of the best live albums of all time is Poco's "Deliverin' ".

  • wow. the older the better. POCO'S music always leave me smiling. that's all i need. pocos mosic and a walk in the woods.

  • rocker53zero,this is great I never heard it before either, but that's no surprise is it?Now YOU not hearing it that's a shock! Anyway I love it & thank you,I wish you could be the one............♥

  • Richie's finest with Poco. Can't beat this song.

  • Eagles are fine, had some good songs....but The Flying Burrito Brothers and Poco are IT!

  • @MattHatter I agree with you. I think Poco is way better than the Eagles, and I can't believe how criminally underrated Poco is just like Dire Straits (even they are different kind of rock) but you know what I mean.

  • weak vocal though

  • @mj121287

Seriously?!? I guess so, if yer looking for Metallica with a pedal steel.

  • The fabulous songs and vocals of Richie Furay!

  • Great Band! nice post

  • Love Poco!! I searched for Thunder Road and kept getting Bruce Springsteen but I wanted Poco's Thunder Road. Just wondering if you have that one handy? :)

  • No, sorry :o(

  • @mooseontheloose Limewire!!!

  • @BJBear61 The only Poco song i know of that has the words 'Thunder Road' in it is 'Legend' - from the album of the same name, if this any use to you. This is a great vid though, from early 70's Brit TV show 'Old Grey Whistle Test ' if I'm not mistaken.

  • @BJBear61 Type in Legend. You will find it.

  • @BJBear61 - Look for the song "Legend." I believe that is what you want.

  • @BJBear61 The song you are looking for is Legend. It has the lines.

Dark as night, cold and lonely,

Rides the horse that's known as only Thunder Road.

  • what a great song, never went anywhere

  • I guess Poco was a great launching pad, huh? great band on their own merit.

  • poco was just awesome

  • The ultimate, the purest country-rock ever.

  • POCO's music always leave me smiling .....

  • nothing is better than some poco tunes to put a big smile on my face

  • Jim Messina was in the group early on too. First saw them in 1970 at a rock festival. Always been one of my favorite bands.

  • It's always amazed me that they are so overlooked. But anyone i play their music for loves it. When i saw them a few months ago (still sound great!), Paul told the audience that "We were too rock for country radio stations, & too country for rock radio....but we did'nt care. And the fact that you're here is good enough for us."

  • Great seeing Tim B on bass ... sooo damn young !

  • dreamgenie,

Read the post closely. I mentioned Meisner too. He got credit on Pickin' Up The Pieces LP as the bassist but was already gone.

  • Sad...

They were soooo fcukin' good and never got the acclaim deserved and the B.S. Eagles kept ripping off their bass player at every turn.

Furay was an awesome singer. Hell, so was Meisner before he split, T.B. Schmidt and George. Even Paul. Every album a gem in my mind up through CRAZY EYES.

I loved them madly back in the day...

  • @bendbadgersteve

not only did the Eagles steal Timmy Schmidt before that they stole Randy Miesner! Ya gotta hand it to them tho, they got a good ear for musicians

  • im still baffled at how this band didnt go farther than they did now dont get me wrong the eagles are good but poco is 10 times better well the only solution i have for their music not going as far as it should have is the era even so poco is the best band in the world hands down theyve been goin strong for fourty and hopefully theyll still be goin strong for many more years to come

  • @atgskater14

i never liked the eagle but liked this band since i was a teen.

  • man, watch timmy play that bass while keeping a slow melodic chorus!! amazing

  • Read Richie Furay's autobiography-while this sounds like a happy song, there were a lot of personal issues going on at the time (happily resolved!).

  • Richie is sweet on that Gibson Jumbo 200

  • I was at that concert

  • Thanks...I just have always been endlessly curious about everything that's out there, and I happened to come across Poco at some point down the line and I haven't looked back since.

  • I'm 20 and have been a musician for about 13 yrs now...and I have no shame when I say that this band is one of my biggest influences. They encompass just about everything that is good about music: the chops, the brilliant songcraft, and the musicianship. Vocals are awesome....esp. love Timothy's. Doesn't get much better.

  • Awesome alot better than to hear you say that drop it like its hot is your influence

  • @wildheart83 There's no shame in liking members of Buffalo Springfield and the Eagles. None at all. Poco was my 1st ever concert as a 2 year old on my Dad's shoulders. If you like this, dig up Flying Burrito Brothers and Graham Parsons.

  • @wildheart83

    Don't forget turtlenecks

...Chops, brilliant songcraft, and-> turtleneck sweaters.(when it was cold)

All kidding aside, I know, I grew up in that era.

Yes.of my all time favorite songs.Poco's Crazy Love is in the top 5.

GREAT influence. You know what I mean by influence.

  • @wildheart83 fag

  • This an interesting (and really good) song. It and others by Poco, really sort of define "Country Rock". The Eagles have fared better, I guess, but these "boys" did it all, earlier and just as well, while some no name band was backing up Linda Rondstat.

  • Masters making brilliance look SO easy! They make me wanna Keep On Tryin' to be half as good.

    Renn Loa Loren

  • If you want to buy things poconut

  • GREAT SUPER STILL GREAT

    THE 70 ties WERE GREAT

    HELL YES 10 ********** thanks

  • Here they are - the quintessential country rock band ... not by un poco, pero un grande: Poco (with Richey and Timothy)

  • I dearly love this song and this band and my brother in Faith, Richie Furay.

  • hey does anyone else notice the resmblence of richie furay and jhon lenon

  • I used to play in a band that did lots of Poco songs and I sang "Magnolia" and "In The Hear of The Night". These songs went over real well. Interesting that two of their bass players went on to play in my favorite all time band, the Eagles. These guys were top singers and players. I really like their early music.

It has been a real pleasure, for me, to now play in a band with a master steel guitar and banjo player.

  • Comment removed

  • This is the best Poco lineup. I like the original with Messina but ya can't beat Furay and Timothy B Schmidt for great harmonies. Poco put out better country music than Nashville puts out today.

  • I saw them last night at Jones Beach.

Richie still rocks! They were fabulous! haven't seen them live since mid 70s.

They did this one, it's been my favorite video on all of you tube for a long time & yes I have "Forgotten Trail".

  • does anyone have the FORGOTTEN TRAIL cd?

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!

ritchie, rusty, paul, tim, george THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES. KEEP THE HORSE RUNNING

    LEGEND

  • Thank u Poco...4 all this years.of happiness....lucky me I have seen you Live..

  • I loved loved loved these guys ! Reminds me of my Austin Texas days ...thanks for this great video.

  • They were not bad then; they are as good now, given the years, and I am thankful that they ARE still around. So is my grand daughter, who exhibits great taste by

liking Poco and learning their songs at the age of three. Why, pray tell, if you feel this way are you listening to them? IMHO, there must be something wrong with more than your taste in music.

  • A lot of people would disagree with you. They were exceptional 40 years ago and, given the years gone by, are still. How, I wonder, can you state that they are worse now and in the same breath claim to be thankful that they aren't still around? They are, in fact, still around and still drawing loyal old fans and not a few of the "younger" generation. It's been my privilege to have seen them numerous times, and had the opportunity to get to know them

    off stage. ? r u listening 2 them?

  • not worth talking about

  • i totally disagree with that guy not liking poco. im a classic rock and 80s metal kind of guy but poco's music is something else...i prefer their old albums like A GOOD FEELIN TO KNOW and CANTAMOS, CRAZY EYES as well as HEAD OVER HEELS and LEGEND...i listen to them whenever i'm down.

  • @PEDROCLASSIC I wanted to apologize to you for the thumbs down. It was intended for the jerk that you also "totally disagree" with.. I think that your opinion is right on target. I liked what you said about The Forgotten Trail; I lucked into acquiring a copy when it released, I think that your opinion is dead on target. Of course, if you're a Poconut your opinion is probably often right! Happy Trails To You, quietman9282
  • No worries brother.... i'm happy as furay's voice. Here's my list of my all time favs. the kind i listen to whenever i go for a walk in the deep woods ....

AMERICA, SEALS AND CROFTS,POCO,EAGLES, THE BYRDS, JIM CROCE, NEIL YOUNG,CSN, BREAD, ENGLANDDAN, those are all real gooood music take care...

  • I listened to them on my dad's records in the early 70s. Still love the music.

  • saw these guys a few times at the Troubador in LA, one of the tightest bands i ever saw, never mind the songs and the singing. brilliant. wish Furay would record with Stills and Young again...

  • Man, I had to go through this wird crooked letter thing just to type this comment. It's almost like the world we're living in. You gotta pass certain criteria, just to be accepted, or recognized. I can't believe these guys weren't more recognized over the years. They're a wonderful group, and I'm mortified that they weren't even played by the radio stations at the time or ever for that matter. Marc Trainor.

  • hey thanks- I remember seeing Poco @Fillmore West as a kid- amazing vocals...amazing players...

  • Is Richie playing a jumbo Gibson J-200???

  • It sure looks like it. It has the same pick guard as a Jumbo 200 and the same color as well.

  • it is, i think.

very Everly-Brothers-ish look, and they used J-200s.

  • This is what's good about You Tube

(and there's lots that ain't) is the chance

to see these relatively rare videos and

    performances.

  • This song must have influenced Rod Stewart in his early days. I can just imagine him singing it with the Faces.

  • yes

  • It's like a mix between Buffalo Springfield and The Eagles.

  • That's exactly how I decribed Poco to my friends who did not know who they were on Facebook.

  • Richie FuRAY! It was just in 1971 that I switched from big bands/swing to country rock. The pronunciation was by Dennis Elsas of WNEW-FM. Poco was one of my favorites.

  • I 'm luvin' this! Feel like I'm 16 again..lol.

  • way kool my dads fav song n group ***applause***

  • oh my... i listen to this song every time i go out for a walk in the woods.

  • Such a Coool Song & Video 5*s I Love this one alot! Thanks..Anita

  • saw poco in london in 76 and 2007 both great nights.

  • This is one of the most "special " songs that Poco ever did. I just can't say enough about how these guys "stood their ground" inspite of what Nashville seemed to dictate, and carved their own path in the world of country music. I love them still. Marc Trainor.

  • thanks so much for this!!

I have always been a big fan of the Eagles (Randy Meisner being my favorite) growing up and as I got older, started to discover how so many bands are intertwined when you look at their "family trees" so to speak......funny how his (Randy's) branch has been the most interesting....

I am finding out now at age 41 how amazing Poco really is--didn't really know too much about them.

Poco.....so much talent...wish I was older, I definitely would have gone to see them

  • Just found this thru looking at Loggins/Messna,Poco,,,love Tim B. S.,,and,,I don't know what you are all bitchin about,,this rocks,,sure,,sounds like Eagles/CSN.Y,,who cares,,it is/was ALL the rage,,wish there were more to go around@! I am so happy to see my fav folks,,who,,otherwise,,I could not see,,thnks to the TUBE!,never could go to concerts,,no money,no way to get there,,missed it all, except on the air,,so,,thats some of my life,,no regrets, cept, could not go to a live concert, but, mybesmday

  • poco and the eagles are both class acts.

  • eriksoer, I've listened to those Eagles recordings, and there's some worthy stuff. But Pocos "From The Inside" is superior to anything the Eagles ever achieved, musically. The Eagles had a huge promotional machine behind them that Poco, unfortunately, never did. The Eagles 'pilfered' members from Poco because they knew how damned brilliant they were! But some things get down to subjective opinion, and I respect yours-

  • Jbones...youre an idiot. Period.

  • written by Timothy B. Schmit when he was still with Poco. He of course went on to join the Eagles. I'd appreciate any comments you might have.

  • I think it was also a case of bad timing, I'm a Eagles fan but they were just in the right place at the right time, had Poco's first 3 albums come out with the same record company backing and timing of the Eagles they would have been huge

  • i see your point, i do think that poco had "the right stuff" - but there is so much more to being huge (i.e. on the commercial level of the eagles). poco had the musical talent, the writing, etc. - but some help from a producer (on the level of glyn johns) and record company backing could have meant aces for them. they (and buffalo springfield, which they evolved from, and the byrds) laid the groundwork...then the eagles "swooped" in.

  • your defiantly right about them not having a great producer, especially after messina left the band

  • Can't believe these guys weren't as big as the Eagles, they are So much better!!

  • I do agree with you, been an Poco fan since I heard Bad Weather on their album "Live" in 1975. But I know what was lacking. They made too many albums. Every album contains two or three gems. If they only had the nerve to wait until those gems would add up to an superb album. That is how Eagles worked. Besides that Eagles had help in there early days from Jack Tempchin and JD Souther and Jackson Browm. But Poco will always stay with me. Help George to get well and donate on the Poconut site.

  • Wow...couldn't disagree with you more. The first3 Poco LP's were strong releases, chalk full of great stuff.

  • No offense but if you listen to Eagles and Desperado you'll know what I mean. I love Poco but can see why these albums made it bigger than any Poco album. For me Poco made with Crazy eyes and Cantamos their best 70ths stuff. Shame that Cantamos got blow away by Hotel California. Long road from Eagles suffers from the same anenia as most Poco albums. 6 great songs and the rest mwahh resonable. Legend was great as well.

  • someone must release on dvd all these great stuff of old vids from this great underrated band and i'll be the first to get it for sure.

  • Really good song by a good ensemble. Richie's great!

  • Someone asks where Poco got their name--think I read somewhere that their original choice was Pogo after the comic strip, but they were told to cut that out by Walt Kelly the creator of Pogo. Changed their name to Poco.

  • Thats the story I heard as well.

  • Beautiful! Richie's voice really shines here.

  • Rocketinmy pocket... funny how our music jones introduces us to new things and to different directions. I am a Brian Wilson fan(like Denny too) but these guys here were the Beach Boys of country rock. Take it you dig Little Feat too!

  • fantastic!

  • A great song by g reat band. Just great!

  • What a great group of musicians, and what a great time to be alive!!!

  • agree partner, one of the best of their time

  • pkappel006

    Amen, brother.

  • you get alot of "jokers" out there that think this music (POCO) really does not cut it in today's world. Well, "tit for tat" since these artist's were ahead of their time back in 1971/72. I guess we can't please the whole world with the music we like........have a good day my friend.

  • Once again, well put.

I was 15 when I first started listening to this great "New," sound, unaware of all the individual talent, from which would eventually emerge, "Loggins and Messina," "The Souther Hillman Furay Band," as well as Timothy B. Schmidt, going to and still with The Eagles.

I have always wondered where they came up with a name like Poco, because loosely translated from spanish means, "Small."

I'm sure you'd agree there is nothing small about this band.

    Take care.

    Rock

  • Help put Poco in the R&R Hall of Fame by going to petitiononline-dot-com. They deserve it!

  • Great song & video from back in the day!

  • i wonder if there are any videos out there of the Souther, Hillman, Furay band, loved that 8 track was saddened when the player ate it

  • denniswilsonfan,

During my first 500 favorites, I consistently checked for postings from, "SHF's," two albums. My favorite was "Trouble In Paradise."

All I can find now is a song of JD Souther's, and that's probably due to the short lived but very gratifying, and entertaining life of this band.

BTW, if you like Dennis Wilson, if you or someone you know has, "Netflix," you can order the movie, "Two Lane Blacktop," with Wilson, and James Taylor. Pretty good flick.

    Take care.

    Rock

  • both albums are around on CD now tho x

  • From here sprang Loggins and Messina. Look them up.

  • i believe that's Timothy B Schmit

  • Yep, that's definitely Timothy B on bass.

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • Is there any video of poco singing,no relief in sight?
