  • Love hearing her angel voice never get tired of it

  • She loved to love and had so much love to give. Her life is a reflection of the human condition. I doubt she ever really found true love except for the brotherly love she had for her brother

  • rip karen ... always remembered helping me to grow during your time

  • mcrosswade: Fred was a dear friend from high school days onward. We met Meg after they married and I remember the incident to which you refer. Tragic beyond all expression. We miss him terribly and each time I hear any of his works I am reminded of his great talent and his marvelous collaborations with Meg. Peace and love to the family.

  • My favourite record of all time. Thank you Karen, thank you Richard.

  • The Carpenters. A permanent part of musical history and part of my life. Their music is full of memories for me and I think for many people in the world. Lovely artists.

  • freak fact, my step-grandfather wrote that song for a film called, Lovers and Other Strangers. My stepmom, his daughter, was a little more than nuts and committed a felony. Can't say more than that here. Wait for the book. :) But it is all a matter of fact. Those are more fun than fiction anyway, right?

  • La mejor voz de habla inglesa de todos los tiempos. Al escucharla uno se remonta a cualquier lugar fuera de este mundo.

  • A pro all the way...she was excellent in every way. What a great team, the two of them.

  • This is so beautiful. My husband and I love listening to this song.

  • There is only one Karen Carpenter.....

  • If we could only understand the underlying message in her songs her soul was tortured and she felt miserable wish she could have seen the beauty in the mirror instead of having a horrible sickness that no one should have to go thru her voice always puts my heart at ease.

  • it saddens me to this day that how can this very talented woman leave us at such a very young age what a very gifted beautiful voice she had!!thank you for sharring her song!!

  • Sing it Karen Honey!!! Rest in Peace! :( This is one of her Greatest songs ever!

  • How cruel that there is an ad on the side of the page asking "how skinny will you go?" Bastards.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG ...TNX

  • Of all the celebrity deaths this one has always weighed on my mind.

  • what bothers m is not her angel voice but that oone saw her horrible pain and illness...rip.

  • Together with The winner takes it all they are the best songs ever made.....

  • This is such a beautiful song, and Karen brings such a depth of feeling to it in her voice. But it is more than that, it also Richard's arranging, and I love the piano in this song, the piano alone makes me cry.

Feeling is what sums up this song, such aching tenderness, such gentle restraint, and sensitivity, and a knowingness (for want of a better word). Great to see that even young people of today are bowled over by songs such as this by the Carpenters.

  • @rothko70

well said! This song really shows Karen's deep rich beautiful timbre in her lower range. Richard's proudction is flawless as always too!

  • I love her voice.

  • on the word "know," goosebumps

  • beautiful !!!! her music has so much meaning.

  • she was truly an angel

  • Magical, thank you Karen for all these wonderful songs and memories, RIP beautiful lady. You are whats good our world. We all miss you.

  • Thanks karen, for all we know if you were still alive you would be singing like an angel.

  • Who could ever forget sweet Karen??

  • the song that is in my head right now, I wish people knew my feeling about songs like this one :(

  • Saw The Carpenters in concert in Houston when I was a youngster ("Kind of Hush" tour). Didn't have great seats but it was an incredible show. Karen had several costume changes and even came out into the audience to have people sing into a mic when they did "Sing" then would play it back for them to hear. Great, great show and they really did sound as polished as their records. Glad to have had that opportunity. I cried like a baby when she passed.

  • una voz incomparable , me gustaria si alguien podria hacer la traduccion de las canciones , porque la mayoria de ellas no la tienen , desde ya muchas gracias ....

  • saudade da minha doce KAREN CARPENTER!!!

  • I read somewhere that if you didn't like Karen Carpenter, you didn't like music! There must be 29 people who don't like music.

  • @cf1934 Well said.

  • Her voice is pure as a bell.

  • @KatellaGate - lol. that's because they only want to see women prancing around and pole dancing! Karen was all about the music... such an amazing voice!

  • Man..that really took me back. She was so beautiful. I will always miss Karen.

  • Brings back memories.

  • Short life but more achieved than most in a long life.

A shooting star across our youths.

  • This song was sung when singers could really sing and she was the best.No autotune needed.

  • Incredible voice! What a talent yet a life beset by tragedy.

  • Awesome, just awesome!

  • Great comment, Ashley. The Best Female Voice of Our time. A voice that soothed and comforted a nation and it's soldiers in time of war. The voice of an Angel. There will never be another like our Karen.

  • Great comment, Ashley. The Best Female Voice of Our time. I voice that soothed and comforted a nation and it's soldiers in time of war. The voice of an Angel. There will never be another like our Karen.

  • The best female voice of our time -

  • This is a Jimmy Griffen song from the group Bread

  • what a unique talent never in this lifetime will hear a voice as pure and sweet as karens she in heaven teaching the angels how to sing RIP KAREN

  • Wow! Stunning audio to go wih a splendid tune sung by a lovely lady. Thanks for posting!

  • @allAmerican....yes, in everything u said....she gave us the impression that shewas singing " to us" the listener, didnt she ?.......what a unique voice/tone she had, never to be duplicated again, what a waste of a woman.....i can never understand how her condition could get so out of control, someone, family or otherwise should have helped her, they failed the poor girl !

  • If God had ever created someone with an angelic voice, it was Karen, her voice hasn't been and will never be matched by anybody! Whenever I hear her on the radio, I just get chills throughout my body....she touches your heart and soul with her sweet and loving voice and you cannot get enough of her! RIP Karen, we all love you and your soothing, loving and heartwarming voice!! I miss you so much!!

  • she was wonderful to say the least; I wish I could have married her

  • I get chocked up.She was beautiful in every way.I feel somber and in love

  • @jhanlon1903 Hopefully ur red thing doesn't pop out every time you hear it. lol

  • @jhanlon1903 No offense, really, but what do you find beautifull about there? I couldn't dissagree more.

  • @berfragonher well I told my teenage daughter about her she listened to her and said " OMG where is she does she still sing, why can't Hannah Montana or Ladyh Ga Ga sing like her?" And I told her that she had died and then let her hear more of Karen's songs and she told her teenage friends. I am also a musician/singer and I perform a couple of her songs, people remember and keep her memory alive. I believe another moon and another sun will have to pass untill we get another Karen Carpenter.

  • Wow! Just wow! Good quality and best singing unlike some musics today.

  • Such an angelic voice! I grew up listening to her - brings back fond memories just listening to her! Rest in peace Karen!

  • Feb. 4. Sonnet 18 Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate: Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer's lease hath all too short a date: (…) But thy eternal summer shall not fade Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest, Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade, When in eternal lines to time thou growest: So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee. Well said, Willie
  • What an amazing song, what an amazing voice. I was a kid, but remember fondly my older sisters singing to Karen Carpenter and really miss the days.

  • @0712sunset

    pravdo govorete on decvetelnno prekrasno

  • Who says that perfection does not exist? This is perfection in every way. At least we saw it one time. Thank you Karen and Richard.

  • Karen sweet voice soothes even the Angels.

  • The Carpenters la voce più bella del mondo!! Le canzoni meravigliose intrepretate da Lei sembrano la voce di un angelo. Sei stata unica!!! Un bacione da un eterno ammiratore tuo.

  • I love u J

  • Simply the best.....No one can touch her

  • @caguy562 Gosh, isn't it incredible that out of all the worlds best singers, we can narrow it down to just a few?

  • What a voice..

  • jesus lady... EAT A SANDWICH.

  • @mpower6428 Too late, she died many years ago from anorexia just because of people like you, always telling people they are too fat, too thin to ugly, too beautufull etc, she could not take it !!!

  • Lovers and other Strangers--what a song for a so-so movie.

  • this is awesome, check out Hideaway and All of my Life if you haven't heard them.

  • God, she sure could sing. What a tragic loss.

  • QUÉ PRECIOSO CANTABA ESTA MUJER... ERES MI ÍDOLA KAREN!!!

  • Mmm.If God ever spoke through a human, his art was Michaelangelo, his music Mozart and his voice-Karen Carpenter.

  • my favorite......

  • If only she could have seen herself the way we saw her.

  • @4Topwood very well put

  • @4Topwood

Most beautiful way to put it. Thank you.

  • It's also a combination of seeing such a beautiful girl singing such a beautiful song so perfectly.Like lots of singers sound kind of like other singers, but no one even ever sounded anything like her.Thank God we were alive for this real magic.

  • I love this song :)

Carpenters are so special to me

    another depressive and melancholy day

  • @brothercool25

I.m with you! The best is behind us!

  • i have spent the last two weeks learning all the sax parts for a tribute show

and it has been a real joy discovering just how good the arrangements are on the carpenters songs.we play tommorow night

    justlivemusic. c o . u k

  • I love all their songs! Amazing voice!

  • Such a clear, pure, utterly lovely voice. Gives me chills to hear this sweet old song again. What a tragedy she left us so early! Sad, sad. May she be at peace. Karen Carpenter, you beautiful, gentle lady. We miss you, we still love you.

  • She really did have a unique quality to her voice that I still appreciate after all these years, and we are talking almost 40 years. As soon as she sings one little note you know you are in for a treat with all that richness of hers. Many have imitated, few have matched.

  • I'm a 27 years-old guy from Brazil and I do remember when my parents used to listen to the Carpenters records when I was just little boy and now, I'm the one who get the records to listen to...haha.

I love all their songs. Inspires me for sure!

  • There are no more Karen Carpenter singers today. There was only one. There will NEVER be another one. Karen displayed beauty and delicate qualities in her voice. Today it is all techno-crap with vocal enhancements like auto-tuning. Where is our salvation from 21st century bullshit singing. I know there will never be another Karen Carpenter, but perhaps a female will come along with a voice of her own the way Karen had such a voice that was strictly her own. Long Live Karen Carpenters Music.

  • All the great music from like 65-84 (the Golden Age of Music). Im 39 mostly into music like Zeppelin, Floyd, The Police, Beatles(66-70) The Who etc. But I also have a soft spot for The Carpenters. It makes me remember when I first heard them in Kindergaten the year was 1976 in my teacher had one of those circle form 8 track players in she would play the carpenters moslty. All us little kids would sing along with her. Dam the memories that Karen voice brings back.

  • I remember hearing them on 8 track back in the seventies and always enjoyed their songs. The world misses you Karen.

  • Happy 37th Anniversary!!!!!

  • There will never be another Karen Carpenter. I even remember where I was when I heard the news.

  • Love looks at the two of you for a lifetime!

  • A haunting and beautiful reminder of a wonderful age. I wish all generations could have had it so good. Where is the present day Karen Carpenter?

  • JUST...One of my favorites by KAREN!!!

  • Thank you Karen.

  • Just listen to Karen Carpenter singing live!!! It's just breathtaking!!! Pitch perfect, beautiful pace and crystal clear diction ... how many of today's crappy singer actually can sing like that????

  • @andrwng - She sang with heart! Today's music is heartless, viscious, and mean, and so are the listeners.

  • @andrwng Although I admire Karen Carpenter's voice a lot, this version is a cover. Wish it was live, but it isn't sadly...

Anyway, amazing atmosphere, very nostalgic, deep and soulful... one of the best songs ever...

  • @maxletos - cuckoo cuckoo cuckoo, this is not a cover unless you're saying The Carpenters covered it from someone else.... if that's true I pull back my cuckoos.

  • @D7J7W7 I meant playback...

  • There are a few actual live versions of this song here on You Tube, like Live on the BBC, and another couple of videos I think. And she sings them just as great if not better than the studio versions.

  • @frankty67 If you watch the beginning few seconds you can see she is lip-syncing in this video (She moves her mouth away from the mic. Please, I know she is a great vocalist and was the one singing this!) but that might explain the quality of some the "live" versions.

  • It's just incredible to hear Karen sing, she was gifted with an angels voice, unforgettable. We will never forget you Karen.

  • Saw and met Karen at the Riviera hotel in Las Vegas in 1975... my aunt took me, great concert! After the show Karen signed my album and both my aunt and me a hug... a memory I will cherish too the day I die!

  • another up song so many up and down ones but what a ride

  • Saw them at kleinhans Music hall in buffalo about 73. I cant imagin what she might have brought us. what a talent. a major loss. a great writer.people should have been looking out for her. a great drum tallent. wow

  • this was my parents song, may they rest in peace, deeply loved, sorely missed

janet korn passed away april 14,1994 and marshall korn june 22,2009

i hope theyre together holding hands and dancing to this song once again,

    rosalind

  • I'm hoping to find some vids wherein Karen is still the main drummer. She was very good, you bet.

  • Aniother oldie for you

  • @mightybeeb I know the feeling man!

  • @mightybeeb 10 4 you silly old trucker. This song made me have a tear too.

  • I have felt the breathe of God, and it is and was and will always be the angelic voice of Karen Carpenter.

  • this song bring me back to when I was a 10 year old and hope for everything in life!!

Nowadays with a 30 years relationship! this song reminded me of what I have expected for my life then and I´m living now!!!!

    Beauthiful!!!

  • My God what a voice!!

  • she looks great here, some meat on her bones, and sounds gorgeous

  • Wow, so nice!

  • let's take a life time to say I knew you well for only time will tell us so and love may grow for all we know :)

  • The Carpenter's best song, I think.

  • Such a Great Performance! It can't get any better. Plainly Awesome

  • I clearly remember the Merv Grifith and Mile Douglas show. Whenever Karen Carpenter apeared and started singing, my world stopped. Everything ceased, time stood still and the earth stopped spinning. I was only about nine or ten years old, but I still feel my skin crawl and my eyes get watery when I hear her voice. God bless you Karen Carpenter and I really hope you are in a better place.

  • @alcatras4 Just loved your words alcatras, I've been listening to this sensational woman for decades now and Karen never ceases to make my heart melt and ache inside. The music world is empty without her in it.

  • Most probably the greatest voice to appear in the pop genre. Without any doubt the standard by which all others to follow her will be judged - Ella Fitzgerald

  • a brief but very beautiful song ;) I really love this song...

  • Let's take a life time to say,

    I knew you well,

For only time, will tell us so.

    And love may grow,

    For all we know.

  • they were well loved in the seventies but loved even more in the hearts of their fans, since Karen's tragic death.

  • What a wonderful song. From the movie, "Lovers and Other Strangers." And with our angel, Karen, singing it. Thanks for posting!

  • Karen Carpenter...there was none better.
