  • You people are insane - Pat Benatar's voice is so much smoother and clear and not squeaky and weird. The other version sounds like a twisted kids fairy tale voice. Pat Benatar has the best voice I've heard and can sing anything.

  • Ballzy effort to even attempt the Bush classic.

  • kate version is the best

  • Pat's voice and background music are great. way cool

  • LOVE the hell out of this~! I also love Kate Bush but for this song here is where I want to be.

  • I'm a fan of both artists, but never took to Bush's original here. No doubt it was meant to sound ghostly and ethereal, but it always just hits me like a 16 year old's pretensions--very twee, all thought and ego with no emotion.

Benatar's cover is too pop, sure, but it has real meat and substance that makes it more affective for me. (No, that's not a misspelling. Look it up.)

  • @TallisOpus I enjoy both versions. Pat's is what led me to discover Kate Bush.

Kate is a truly great talent, for sure.

  • Rock on Pat! LOVE this song!

  • I'm sorry. Kate Bush's voice won't be to everyone's taste, but comparing her version to this one is like comparing the Vienna Philharmonic to a pit band. And I like Pat Benatar, but Kate Bush is an original.

  • @Qamila1 What an intellectual comments you make! I'm jealous of your extensive vocabulary.

  • I've loved this song since the first time I played the album on my old turn-table.

It still amazes me each time I hear it.

  • I prefer the original version but I gotta admit this one is sth totally different and I love that fact that she didn't try to immitate kate. wonderful.

  • @RobsiejB yes, I gathered that. I suppose I just prefer more substantiated vocals rather than the ethereal. Personally I like the "dated" sound. But really both versions are great in my opinion. I still think Cathy would be fiery, even six feet under.

  • one of a bunch great sons, from patty.

  • As a long, longtime fan of Kate Bush, I give this effort an 8 out of 10. Pat's interpretation is quite nice,. but the guitars are just too strident for this delicate song.

  • I still don't know if she "got it", but it's a cool version all the same.

  • This sounds a bit dull, something to do with the music: it sounds like a cheap backing track. Her vocals are impressive and it is good that she put her own twist to such a dynamic song. Great vocals, shame about the uninspiring, flat music. I love Kate's version, appropriately dramatic.

  • Happy birthday Brad, know how much you love this.

  • OMG such memories!! Loved this album when I was listening back when I was like around 9/10 years old!

  • This song is so eerie.. goes along with the book perfectly.

  • Nothing tops Kate's vocals on this song...nothing of this world.

  • Great song...Bush is great but I love this version!

  • So good to hear this again after many, many years

  • Sweetness!! :0) Ah...Pat's music is amazing, this old stuff is so nostalgic.

  • I think it's a gorgeous song

  • @TheWoodlandWitch66

And in response, the USA was owned by England too. And Spain. And France. And the Netherlands. Even a case for Italy, Sweden, Germany...Alaska was Russian too...and India own Ford, and by now most of Silicon Valley is owned by Chinese companies....still, at least McDonalds is still american...

  • Well well, people are using a song to relive the War of Independence...

Yes i am a Brit, and I gotta make a confession, Im pleasantly surprised.

Benetar does something no other cover does, she DROPS THE KEY and it WORKS, and without effort. Any karaoke hacker can now sing it the same way!!

However, from there, the same old american problem- swamping everything with guitars- making it sound like every other American "Rock" record from the past 30 or 40 years. Nice try though.

  • @robotnyktoo

Hmmmmm, you actually made me think! thank you. Love Kate Bush too!

  • @robotnyktoo Electric guitars aren't the problem, they're the reason I listen to music.

  • pat benatar-wuthering heights,gijoe989.

  • Wanna piss off the Yanks...no need they're all pissed off already!

  • Myron Grombacher's debut LP as the bands drummer. Dude's got some wicked sick skills.

  • @hear2there

Met him after a show in Tampa at the Hard Rock Casino!!! Great guy to put up with me drunk ass!!!!

  • Met him @ Hard Rock Casino after a show(great show, glad tohave him back) unusually gratious guy to put up with my drunk ass!!!

  • Wanna piss off the bellends from the UK ? ....tell them this version is better.

  • Still delights me.

  • Pat Benatar has an 8 octive range. That is better than many/most opera singers. Kate Bush has no where near the range of Pat Benatar. Not to say that Kate Bush is not a great singer.

I like Kate Bush. I also like Jonny Cash. But if Jonny Cash sang this song, it would not sound as good as Pat Benatar's version.

I like Kate Bush's version but I think Pat Benatar's is better. Just on vocal skill alone.

  • @shadowpigglet I just Listened to Kate Bush's version from 2 different times (1978 and the Original version) Kate has a, what?, two octives?, Three? High, Higher, Highest.

After Listening to Benatar, she sounds like a bee or buzzing thing.

  • @shadowpigglet Not to be a jerk, but no one has an 8 octave vocal range. Not even close.

  • @shadowpigglet LOL, 8 octaves. 8 octaves is an entire piano. Pat's range is/was supposedly 3.5. She's a mezzo soprano/soprano. If she had 8 octaves, she would also be a bass (impossible for women) and baritone (alto). She isn't. 4 octaves is extremely high - 5 and 6 are rare. Adam Lopez is in Guiness for having 6. Just clarifying! I'm a singer so it always strikes me as odd when people pull the "8 octaves" card because it's so misunderstood.

  • @shadowpigglet Eight octaves? Really? A regular piano doesn't have an eight octave range. Ignorant...

  • I love both versions....Pat is one of the greatest rock ladies, and Kate is Kate. She is amazing. Pat did the track justice.

  • Pat Benatar one of the best rocker girls of all time...

Hardly anyone could compare with her...

    Wonderful interpretation...strong and yet tender

There's only one Pat and that's for sure ins the only one:

    PAT BENATAR...thanks for existing

    From Lima Perú

    Oswaldo...

Ps. Pat please come visit us some fine day...we would be so happy as you can't imagine

  • KATE BUSH IS PSYCHO!!!

  • This version led me to the original which is how I discovered Kate Bush, and for that, I"ll always love it...

  • ...nah, what could I possibly say? Let the horror that this is speak for itself.

  • Nobody like Bush. The singer, I mean, with the politician it would be nobody likes Bush.

  • This is just so stupid. Poor Emily would not approve.

  • Sure this doesn't rivals Kate's version. But you have to admit Pat has put her own mark on it and i admit i like it!!! Plus it has put $ in Kate's pockets lol.

  • @MrRainbowquest00 Kate Bush doesn't need anyone covering her music to put $ in her pockets...she is about as accomplished as it gets on her own!

  • The best version is the one of Angra

  • I don't know what to say! I love both Kate and Pat's versions....they're different but both great.

  • @dimpleseve: I agree, I'm a fan of both singers.

  • Both Versions are wonderful and unique.

  • Check this version out!

  • Both versions are great. (I do favor one much more over the other, but I won't say which.)

  • dejame entrar

  • Awesome voice. Eight octave range is no mere defeat.

  • Had that song been released by Pat, I'd have never read Wuthering Heights :x

A v. good pop song, but no...

  • I love Pat Benatar's version much more than Kate's. Her version hurts my ears.

  • I heard this one first, and didn't know at all about KB, but ever since I've heard the original, it's hard for me to hear this one. It would be ok if you had never heard the original, but the orig has a certain longing that just not come through in this version. Even the updated KB version is better.

  • Love this version xxxx and u like K.B but prefer this one!

  • It's just an opinion...........Benatar nailed this one and I think it'[s better. Kate Bush is Bush...fine...but Pat nailed this one and deserves credit!

  • I'll end all the arguments about whose version is better. THEY ALL SUCK MY ITCHY LEFT NUT!!!!!!!!11

  • If you don't like Pat Benatar's version, then why would you watch this video and tell everyone that you think someone else's version is better. I think we all have a right to our opinions, but you have to consider what you're saying before you type something. I love Pat Benatar, so I don't like reading that you think someone else is better; that Pat Benatar doesn't compare. I respect your opinions, but I don't appreciate the comments.

  • To anyone who doesn't think Pat can't even touch the range that Kate covers in this song. Listen to We Live For Love.

  • @EvoVocalChick Even now live Pat still hits those high notes while singing that song; the live version from 1982 New Haven is on here; someone uploaded different parts and We Live For Love is on part 4 the first song.

  • @ivegottaheadache I believe it! She's so amazing. Promises in the Dark is another good example. The last note that she hits in the bridge is super high, I'm actually working on hitting that note. Well, not so much hitting it as making it sound good while singing it.

She's completely phenomenal and I think many people are overlooking her talent because they can't bear the fact that Pat has a higher range than Kate Bush.

  • @EvoVocalChick I just finished to Everybody Lady Down; goodness! Pipes of Steele; so raw!

  • @ivegottaheadache So true...

  • @EvoVocalChick I just uploaded her singing Promises In The Dark on the Arsenio Hall Show 1993; the version is amazing; that ending note she went up...then up more, up up and away!!!!!!! Go watch it!!

  • This version is simply shite compared to Kate Bush

  • Well, here's my response video of Pat Benatar doing some dance moves and visual interpretations to Kate Bush's original :watch?v=RdFmZoWpfw0&feature=channel_video_title

  • Pat Benatar's vocal is excellent and the orchestration is really good but this cover lacks power. There's plenty of emotion in the vocal but the instrumentation does not support it.

  • @bartonone2005 I think the instrumentation drowns out the vocals too much; that's the one thing that bothered me.

  • Pat's version was the first I heard, and I personally think it's better because Kate Bush's is in a higher register that kinda annoys me...but that's just my personal preference!

  • @tyme4dindin And pls stick to that.....No comparison for crying out loud!!

  • @tyme4dindin The first time I heard Kate's, I honest to god thought it was a joke.

  • I find this whole string to be depressing. I came here to hear a song from my childhood and am inundated with negativity regarding which version is better. Why don't you all take a deep breath and think before you type.

  • Maybe for someone who knows nothing about the story it might be a good song but to me it sounds SO FLAT.

If she only changed the lyrics to something modern it would make a great pop love song...

  • What a voice! Pat Benaatar, Linda Ronstadt, and Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart are the queens of rock and roll! I'm glad I grew up as a child, and younf teenager, and young adult to the three greatest decades in popular music: the 60's, 70's and 80's! And yet I love the some of the 50's, 90's and new millennium's music as well! But as a whole, the 60's, 70's and 80's are the best! Peace and Love, BobbyK

  • well thats a real smart come back . seeing planes cant bite . and also how most ppl agree that kate sings it better than anyone else ... and out of all ppl that try to replicate it , pat is by far the worst at it ... so unless you have anything else stupid to say ... lets keep to the subject hey ?

  • It's an okay cover, but not a patch on the original in terms of atmosphere.

I think we're all agreed the song itself is awesome though...

  • i dont know how to fly a plane either , but doesnt mean i dont know if it's falling out of the sky.. its this version of wuthering heights is crashing and burning .. i know the songs about a dead girl kathy thats dies and is trying to get into the locked window to be with her lover ... and kate bush is the only person that sings this song , and can make you feel thats what it is about .. everyone else just lakes the feeling in it when they try to immitate it ...

  • @durv13

I think you don't. I think you wouldn't know if the plane were falling if it bit you on the ass.

  • This is beautiful but it has the feel of just a song....Kate put everything of herself into it, the creepy, crypt, ghostly quality that haunted Heathcliff until Cathy stole everything back from Him, including Himself...

  • @xepobnha666

    I agree 100%

  • i have to say kate's version has a bit of a comical quality to it, which i dont really like... but at least its haunting and intense. this here has no emotional depth to me.

  • i respect her courage to do this. and pat has the chops. but jeez, kate is kate.

  • Yeah Kathy was crazy after Heath(en)cliff dumped her. That's what Kate was going for in her version.

  • you kan say all u want but she doesn't even reach up to kate's knees

  • Pat's version i's great. Thou for me it doesn't compare to either of Kate's versions.

  • The first time I heard Kate's version, I thought it was a joke.

    It's grown on me since.

This one is just more haunting and beautiful.

    Musically a whole lot better.

To be expected from the opera vocalist Pat is.

  • @EvoVocalChick

How is this more haunting and beautfiul in ANY way? This sounds like a pop song..

  • @snooglehinde kate is a pop singer.

  • @mmasny

This isn't supposed to be a pop song though?

  • @snooglehinde Not by you, I suppose.

  • @EvoVocalChick Ummm.. Pat Benetar an opera vocalist?

  • @pipsicle81 As a matter of fact, Pat Benetar is classically trained!

  • qayak ? your kidding ? its not spose to be laid back fool . its about a ghost = kathy . comming back from the dead to be with her lover heathclif.. whats laid back about that ? lmao kate sings with the pain of a lady wanting to be with her man after her death ... and if you mean pats . intensity at ITS ME KATHYYYYYYY!!!! i fail to see where that was needed lol 5thSSVikingDiv

    totally agree with you

  • @durv13

but that part is the best part of the song... you probably don't even know how to sing.

  • Best version. Not over sung like the original and its imitators.

  • @IamPapaShaw Her voice is by far more pleasant than the original, but the song is meant to sound creepy, because it's about a ghost... and about the wind. Before I read the book I would have prefer this version, but now that I've read it, I must say it doesn't sound the way it should sound.

  • @PrincesseJulie I totally agree about the voice. This version has an average arrangement for an ordinary pop-rock song, pleasant, sure, but it doesn't fit to the feeling and the meaning of the story... and yes, her voice is less like a struggling cat in the night, but her voice is not as impassioned as Kate's. I like her version better. She succeeded where the many movie adaptations had failed to catch the whole twirling - I'd say, wuthering of emotions of this immense and undying story.

  • @PrincesseJulie Everything Pat sings is good sounding (for her rocker girl style) but I have to agree that Kate's version is probably truer to the intent of the 'creepy ghost' story. Hence, the Kate Bush version is the one that made it onto my iPod playlist.

  • @Saitua76 Who flagged your comment as spam? Pat Benetar must be surfing YouTube

  • sometimes too much is just too much, having said that Pat Benatar is on top on this. Kate Bush although a great singer is just over the edge. The PB version to me is just powerful enough to make this a song I've loved since the first time heard it. Wuthering Heights is the first book I ever picked up and read cover to cover and to this day one of my favorites. Not judging anyones opinion, just stating mine, both are good this one just a little better!

  • Benatar all the way!!!

  • Have to give the edge to the originator of this song, Kate Bush's voice is just more intense and just meant for this song.

  • Well this is all very Olivia Newton John isnt it ? no feeling or drama , bit like Grease and so American .Kate blows this chick outta the water !!!! but then we are talking about a genius vs a lightweight pop chick who actually was never classicaly trained because she had to quit cos she was skint . I love opera and this girl hasn't no where near the voice of a soprano. so dont bullshit people ,.jeeez you people no fuck all

  • @TheWoodlandWitch14 Don't dog Benatar, she has just as much passion, it's just a different flavor. She also hit's the upper octave at the end. "you know it's me....Catheeeeey" Giraldo's guitar isn't bad either. Kudos to Bush though for writing it.

  • @TheWoodlandWitch14 "lightweight pop chick" gee you are fucking clueless and obviously never listened to the treasure trove of Pat Benatar's vocals. And yes she was classically trained; I like her rock chick voice and also her other beautiful vocal skills and depth. No fuck you and don't fuck with Pat Benatar!! Witch is right; you are one.

  • not as inspiring and touching as the original version sang by Kate. almost fell a sleep with this version. kate's version is full of life.

  • bring me the heather...from Pederstone Crag.

  • ah....that's the stuff..just got back from the Kate Bush version and boy are my ears bleeding....prefer Pat's to Kate's version anyday.

  • Trop bon cette voix est fabuleuse comme kate bush

  • I see this Kate Bush vs. Benetar argument is still going on. I'm like qayak on this. I grew up with the Benetar version but always knew it was a Kate Bush song. About a year ago I listened the he Kate Bush original for the first time and it is not my taste. Yes Kate Bush may have a greater range but the style and voicing seems too harsh to me. The style strikes me as very theatrical, like she's doing something in a Broadway musical. It's just too harsh.

  • After listening to this lightweight version of a Kate Bush classic i wanted to vomit , No way does this even come close to the original , thing is : Kate is a creative Artist not a pop singer who writes superficial shit and this women would never be able to understand Bush's art anyway ,hence this unfeeling ,lightweight crap . Poseur Benetar lol

  • @TheWoodlandWitch14 The subject matter is lightweight......(from my perspective anyway). Pat Benatar was not Britney Speers. She could actually sing. Both artists can carry it off. This is not Beethoven.

  • Theres nothing lightweight about Emily brontes novel .its rather a morbid affair of jealousy . possesion and hatred but i respect you and your opinion .

  • @TheWoodlandWitch14 "A morbid affair of jealousy, possession and hatred"....sounds like an episode of "Jersey Shore" with a British accent. I'm sorry if I come across as a pompous ass. I respect your opinion as well, I'm just trying to clarify mine..

  • No.

  • This sucks - middle of the road dross. totally boring. So bad I had to pause the song as I wrote this comment as it was sending me to sleep as I was typing.

  • Ha! Kate Bush was just a whimsical nymph - at best! . Benetar ran vocals circles around her! This is a great version Bush should have done if she could.

  • i LOVE pat, and her version really does have a palpable sense of longing and passion (especially compared to hayley's stale vocalization). but kate's original is truly a masterpiece.

  • You guys don't get Kate. Not hard to get if you have ears and a brain.

  • Love Pat but Kate Bush's (the original) is much better. It was a dark book and needs a darker voice.

  • Pat rocks this out.....Kate Bush was borderline frightening.....lol

  • Kate Bush version is epic , this is ...sad...I like Pat but this is not for her...

  • To be fair, i listened to the Kate Bush version before I listened to Pat's. That voice is not for everyone...the video I saw didn't have very many views, and I actually thought she was kidding around.

  • Comment removed

  • @happyhead64 Pats version is a bland pop tune!, shes massacred kates version, pat could never hit the 4 octave range that kate did, kates version is as we brits say "taking the mickey" out of it, duuuh!.

  • She sings this song brilliantly. I think Kate Bush's version is more ethereal, I hear it in a surreal Ballet, some Black Swan type thing. Pat Benatar's version seems more like it could be a broadway production. But both are insanely talented artists.

  • soz if i offended there dude just thought id stick my ore in to the other yanks slating kate this version dosnt e ven compare to kates

  • @myerglin No problem.

  • @myerglin You're so right...it doesn't

  • i have heard all versions, kate's , haley's , and pat's, and i have to put my vote in for pat's version, definately a sexier voice than the other two!

  • Covering a Kate Bush classic is always a risk , this crap is the proof .I bet this women as never even read the book ,

  • I LOVE this cover!!!!!!!!!!!!!-Benatar is and always will be a goddess to me. Her voice, talent ,sheer sexiness and choice of material-perfection.

  • me but this is totally a Kate Bush song to me and doesn't seem as great when PB does it. (accidently hit post too early there in the previous comment)

  • I don't know what the hell some people are saying. Alotta people I know know of Kate Bush and I live in Canada. BS to say she's only popular in the UK. Pat Benatar is aweso

  • rofl at all the yanks kate bush version is defo the best i dont care who sold more singles or albums this version is complete bollox tbh

  • @myerglin Cut the transAtlantic hostility.I'm a yank and I bought Kates record, its the only one I will listen to.Pat B recorded her version of this song because it had a great guitar solo at the end but it was a little submerged under the strings.Anyways, Kate's song could only get on American college radio stations because at the time Saturday Night Fever songs played constantly on the commercial stations. It revived the disco genre and DJs avoided many new acts.

  • " I heard some lady Kate bush did a cover" ! This Kate bush lady wrote and performed it way before pat ! If I'm honest pats version isn't to bad but Kate sings it with raw emotion and passion obviously ... It's her lyrics ! , if you want the best ever version search for kates "new lyrics" version .. Then search again for Kate bush and you'll see she is a very very rare talent and superb song writer , another favourite being running up that hill ! You see there is life beyond the USA ;-)

  • How to turn a classic song into a rawk song . Not good.

  • @leonaofficial -Do you think Ms. Bush relates to most? NO! Therefore, society doesn't relate to Ms. Bush in general. But....society does relate to Ms. Benatar.........The Queen of Rock! Too bad ass......

  • @innamorata40 First of all you need to calm down and do some research. Pat recorded a song about child abuse ... Yes that was very courageous of her ,however Kate Bush already recorded a song about that subject called :The Infant kiss . yeah ? so despite your rantings and abusive name calling, you come out looking the one who's silly ..Kate does relate to people about all sorts of emotive subjects , but only people who can understand her art which obviously eludes complete idiots like you :)

  • @PicktheRareFlower2 - The Infant Kiss has not had the same impact as "Hell is for Children" Benatar's song is so much more powerful! Move on!

  • @innamorata40 Ms Bush continues to sell albums Worldwide and each of her multi million selling albums are eagerly awaited , some even bought presumably by people who relate to her music ......LOL

Ms Benetar who`s last top 30 US album was 22 years ago in 1988 no longer has a successful recording career probably because of her dated rawk style. Her last album ( 2003`s `Go` ) sold 34,000 copies per RIAA. Guess you were one of the 34000.

  • @leonaofficial "Ms Bush continues to sell albums Worldwide and each of her multi million selling albums are eagerly awaited"? When Ms.Bush releases an album, I can guarantee you, her albums do not sell multi millions as you indicated! She is relatively unknown throughout the world, including the US, (The US has the MOST album/CD's sales, uploads, etc in the world. She is really unknown other than the U.K. (Small, little country. (I could blow that country away with my kneelex!....LOL

  • @leonaofficial - As with regards to Benatar and RIAA. I'm well aware of RIAA. I do own a RIAA "Certified Sales Award" for Benatar's "Crimes of Passion" album... Quintuple sales ( 5 million)Has Ms. Bush ever sold that much in one album or her entire career? When was the last time Ms.Bush charted int he US. 1985? I checked with RIAA and Ms.Bush isn't even listed as selling ONE MILLION! Don't waste my time anymore! Fuckin' move on!!!

  • @innamorata40 I'm amused how you describe the UK as a :"Small . little country " In language characteristically of ,how a six year old child would speak. Obviously , Bigger , more . sales and size attributes are characteristic in your way of thinking but not quality and artistic merit . However i agree with you, Kate doesn't go down well in a dumbed down society like The USA and she isn't bothered . She has no interest in fame like i have no interest in you or your silly remarks :)

  • @innamorata40 PB is unique in that despite having a spectacular start to her career it has gone dramatically downhill ever since - from 5 million sales of her 1980 album to 34000 sales of her last album in 2003. Fact .Whilst KB may not be a best seller in the land of rap and crap after a career that spans since 1978 her latest album like it or not was a Worldwide million seller. Fact. PS it even had Platinum sales in Canada ( if you`ve heard of that little country next to yours ?)

  • Actually I find it hilarious that some people have the need to hate on Kate Bush whilst showing their ignorance about who actually wrote the song in the first place ..Pat is a good rock singer ,but she's not the the Queen of rock and roll .nor does she have a talent for writing her own music , This rendition is a relaxed , rather passionless cover and frankly show's, that Pat ,,bless her, hasn't a clue what the song is about .As for talent Kate blows her out of the water . Deal with it ,

  • @PicktheRareFlower2 - Ignorance is within the beholder.... Pat is a great singer.....Rock.Classical etc...And she is the Queen of Rock! There are many singers who have written songs and their version isn't the best! Get it? Kate wrote it, but Pat sings it!!!! No chance in hell for Kate! Move on!
