Are you sure about the release date? I have a copy--it says it was recorded at the Hungry I in July 1965 and has a 1965 copyright...

Well, Tom Lehrer also did unique songs for the audience at the Santa Monica Civic Center back then. He also made lyrical changes where necessary.

He often changed that couplet to suit whatever locale he was performing at. The TWTYTW recording was done at The Hungry i in San Francisco, so 'bay' (of San Francisco) and San Jose were the localized lyrics.
