thank u for posting this is not only one of my favorite dietrich songs but one of my favorite songs of all time it always makes me cry no mattr what..god what i would give to get that vinyl
Hello Grzegorz - Marlena Dietrich was - for certain - one of the greatest stars of all times. Her photographs speak volumes of her eternal beauty which caused a lot of pain for all those men and women - who loved her and there were legions of them.
According to her only daughter - Marlena almost always did what she wanted - all her life and - unfortunately - since she was almost always in a position to do so - this kind of behavior - causes a lot of pain - in those who are not able to do so!!
@240252 No need to be embarrassed! I could have revealed even more intime details, but wisdom prevailed. Actually, I was very impressed by your vocal ability.
What a beautiful, haunting song! -- I'd never heard it. Lovely lyrics, which seem to be communicated in all your images of Dietrich's incredible face.
Danke for displaying Die Fesche Lola--aka Marlene. Remember when you sang in Deutsch "Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuss" when driving me to Gdansk on my first trip to Poland?
Love your video, love the photos of Marlene. She was an incredible beauty and
multi talented....... a fabulous singer and marvelous actress.
I once saw a play called "Marlene" staring Sian Phillips...Livia from "I Claudius"
she was wonderful....One of Marlene's lines was "The show starts when I open the door to my apartment and ends when I return at night." Marlene was a perfectionist. Thank you for this Wunderbar Lied and the Schoen Marlena.
@genia106 Yes, the perfectionism was her soul. Remember, she was a daughter of a middle class metropolitan family, her father was a 100% Prussian officer... The self discipline and a somewhat coldly & mathematic attitude to people who could help made her great career. Ofcourse, first of all - was her talent. But - as the old rabbis say - it's 10% talent and 90 % work and your character that make your success
Von Stenberg's Dietrich is the most fascinating creation of all the times, specially the way she appears and acts in "Shanghai Express". Most of the pictures of this post come from that movie.
@Masquerade03 Indeed, I was lucky to have found quite a few excellent "Shanghai Express" shots of her. Her face is a Sphynx. She was demonic, but also - if one can believe her memoirs - she could make jam. A pure German mixture: my Berlin aunts were of that kind. They could be most passionate and most engaged in anything they were doing while in the same time they did not forget where they put the egg punch in the kitchen
wunderbarer text - klasse marlene !

Just wonderful. So simple and affecting. Somehow the tune reminds me of a Yiddish song. The composer was Jewish but not of East European origin.

@Trombonology She had something both angelic and demonic in her face - a kind of blend, only few men could resist...
