The reason the remake was so bad was because, there was too much truth in the first film about the Fascist/Corporatist executive ruling elite creating a totalitarian police-state world government that's now all around you.
Just like Eyes Wide Shut and The Matrix, there are those in Hollywood who know what and who is really in power and their agenda to enslave humanity.
Watch: Brotherhood of the Bell, on YouTube starring Glen Ford, it's excellent based on elite secret groups in control.
Marco, siccome rimasi in coma per 6 anni, non ricordo bene se tu eri quello che andò a finire sotto la moto oppure eri quello sulla moto che andò a finire oltre gli spalti, spaccando con la schiena la recinzione in lega di titanio.
Many Americans wonder why soccer is the most popular sport on planet Earth. A game where 90 minutes often produces only one or two goals, if any.
This film shows why.
The moment when Johnathan E picks himself up and puts the ball in the goal to make it 1-0 at the end of the film tells you what sport is all about and why it is so attractive to watch.
In Rollerball, as in football, the human condition is laid bare for all to see. A constant struggle to score just one goal.
I read how the producers thanked the people where it was filmed in Germany by staging a real game with the original rules using all the pro skaters from the movie. That would have been cool to see!
@PriaNorm You're right. With advancements in technology, and the futuristic theme of corporations taking over more true than back then, how did they screw up the remake that bad?
With some modifications this could be a real game. The question is who would want to be around moving motorcycles that aren't being scirpted where to be and go.
What a classic piece of great filmmaking, not to be confused with that abomination that was hatched a few years back. Great performances, awesome stunts and pills, pills, pills....
Not to mention, good ol' Shane Rimmer (how did he manage to get into so many great films?)
Roller ball is the greatest sport in the history of man

sad thing is I paid to see the remake and left he movie, looked like the camera shots were done on a rollercoaster

Most remakes are vastly inferior to the originals. This is one of them. If an original work is a classic, let it stand.

If anyone who liked this movie feels like getting pissed off....watch the remake

Yes, this movie was really great and I was very disappointed watching its remake BUT I still prefer concept and idea in FutureSport (1998)

Is this Nigel de Jong in the World Cup final ?
kentwomble 1 year ago
@kentwomble
Holland, as a team, watched Rollerball before the final.
Their coach said to them at half time: "Game???! This was never meant to be a game!!"
Houston's strip is also orange like Holland's. (and both team names begin with the letters "Ho")
jazzx251 1 year ago
@jazzx251 Actually, It's "Netherlands" not Holland to the Dutch. It was Holland to us English speakers since the Middle Ages.
PhilK1231 11 months ago
@kentwomble Nah it was Nigel DeJong during his FA-blessed two footed leg breaker on Hatem Ben Arfa of Newcastle.

Oh my goodness!
I would have love to have seen that!
The rules are actually pretty strict. Hold ball in air at all times, biker must only be used in a supporting role etc.

Like the Hulk, they need another remake.

@PriaNorm that wasn't even a remake, it was a cheesy sports film with the same name

Great movie that I watch once a year. Has a interesting message about sport hero's
toonsis 3 years ago 7
The message isn't about sports heroes.
Here's the message:
"Rollerball was invented to demonstrate the futility of individual effort"
And when Jonathan E, an individual beats the other team AND The Powers That Be, he refutes that assertion.
The other important message is that comfort does not equal freedom.
Hiraghm 2 years ago 5
Agreed, but there was more then 1 lesson to be learned from this movie
toonsis 2 years ago
Is the orange t-shirts, "hollandeeers"?
*lol*
josieldeassis 3 years ago
Yeah - they were pioneers of "Total Rollerball".
A combination of defence (putting the ball in the goal) and attack (smacking the shit out of the opposition).

Houston versus Tokyo was classic!
Tokyo Victory!
doublemandala 4 years ago
Yeah, but Houston came back to beat New York in the final. JONATHON! JONATHON! JONATHON!
777edward 3 years ago
Tokyo were excellent - their poor passing and holes in the back four were more than made up for by their martial arts skills.
Individually they were nothing special, but as a team they were great.

the part where he hits the motorbike looks fake as fuck though, it looks like its standing still
emokiller17 4 years ago
It was standing still. The bikers could play goaltender too.
mkrieb 4 years ago
Good idea.
If I was defensive coach, I would instruct two players to constantly hold a bike over the goalmouth so the opposition couldn't put the ball in it.
