  • click of death, that usually means your harddrive is fucked...

  • why are people giving sugestions look at the date this was uploaded

  • this happened to my HDD in my computer before:P its dead -.-

  • at :12 it sounds like a COD (Click of Death). I think your Hard Drive has died

  • Try Reseating the IDE and power cables to the hard drive.

  • need help wat should i do

  • hard drive crashed

  • yea i got the same thing and dont know where i can find a hdd for ^^

  • That clicking noise?

Thats normal, thats your xbox reading your hd and booting it.

My cousin has error code 7 and im trying to fix it

  • Each Time I Turn Mine On, It Dosen't Show The Boot Up And Everything Is Connected. When I Press The Eject Button, The DVD ROM Case Dosen't Bloody Open. So I Got AN Xbox 360 Instead

  • mine turned red and a number 21popped out on the left of the screen

  • Mine has the same problem. If the cause is really the hard drive, can I still transfer my files to the new one I'm going to get. If so, how.

    PLEASE REPLY!

  • mine was doing the same thing.

    btw it was modded

  • Your XBox hard drive has failed.

It's not easy as merely replacing it, though. The drive must be locked with the password that the XBox is programmed with, and each password is unique for each console. And, the drive must contain the necessary software to get the machine to operate.

When this happens, most people merely take it as an opportunity to modify their XBox with larger hard drives and unique capabilities, such as saving entire games on the drive.

  • I would like to take advantage, now that I got the red ring of death on my original xbox, to modify it. Do you have directions you can point me in to get help?

  • One of the best places is llamma(d0t][k0m).

This is a website that has loads of info, parts, and a forum of hobbyists that can help get you started.

    Good luck!

  • Headcrash.

  • I bet it's a Maxtor drive. Those things are known to fail :/

  • Nope. The drive is most likely a Western Digital.

The original XBox drives used only 8 GB Western Digital drives or 8-10 GB Seagate drives.

If it has a Maxtor, then the XBox would have had to been modified.

  • Does it give you an error code?

  • Replace your Hard Drive.

  • are you hit your xbox?

  • LOL it will break if u hit it hardenough.. i know i have done that before.

  • useless

  • click of death, get a new hdd

  • oh yeah...i remember those days with my pc....

  • I got one at Gamestop for 56 dollars. And mine has a new Hard drive. If you want to play your old games this is the way to go.

  • u have replace Your Hard Drive

  • it means the HDD has timed out....

  • yep aka its dead or not conected propley it has happend to me 3 times man those old xbox hdds did suck but it was still the best console of its time

  • i have red rings on mine, how do u fix them? like how much would it cost?

  • $99 for a repair.

  • mine did the same lol Im useig it in a vidio soon lol

  • BTW....i dunno if u can do it now....i sent my xbox to Microsoft when it happened....i didn't tell them the reason....they fixed it in a week...for free...u just have to tell them the serial number and they'll fix it depending on how long u'v owned it

i dont think u can get it fixed for free...its an old system...u can get a new one for 30 bucks or so at gamestop

  • Yeah....lol...when my mom wanted to smash it because i made her pay for something...and i never paid her back

she dropped it on the floor and said...."there u go, were even"

  • wow ur mom is a bitch

  • This happens to my xbox as well

    oh well getting a 360 :) anyway

  • my xbox does exactly the same thing!

    help me.

the screen sais to contact microsoft but ive kinda let it slide 4 ages.

    help plz

    thnx

  • you can find your answer on ebay =]

  • Yep, error 7 is a Hard drive failure. Like you said, it is cheaper to buy a new console; M$ will not even touch it at the repair center if they see that you have opened it. Also, each Xbox hard drive is "Locked" to the motherboard with a unique code that is found on each motherboard. If you go buy a new hard drive, it will not work since it is "Unlocked." The only way to be able to use an aftermarket driv eis if you use an alternative BIOS from the Xbox one.

  • my HDD started clicking after 5 years , it was worn out , i sent it to microsoft and the only thing they did was put a new HDD in it , i could tell becouse my xbox was not as noisy and the shell of my xbox was still the same becouse of scratches i recognised and i still had the same disc drive

  • m$ did that to rip pepole off so thay wuold have to pay for repars i put a mod chip in myne but could not fined the bios on the net just virius lol so i gave it to my frend who still cant find eney

  • To me sounds like the HDD is toast. Sounds like the controller arm and/or heads are clicking/smashing on the platter.

  • It sucks that Xbox Live is so strict with modified parts because I really dont want to have to pay AUS $200 to get a 8GB hard disc replaced. It was cheaper for me to buy a new console!

  • Ur hdd is dead...ur going to need a chip and m$ files along with new hdd...good luck..any questions just ask

    A2K

  • I play live so I didnt really want to go into repairs and mods...got a new xbox though =D

  • Dude sell me your broken one, I'll fix it =)

  • I heard that you can put it in the fridge and it changes the pressure inside the hard disc that corrects the head crash...rofl?

  • Hard drives are not sealed you know...

  • How old is your Xbox, mine is around 6 years and its working perfectly.

  • 18 months
