LMAO I just remembered when I was first soldering like the very first time I was trying it out I watched a vid of some guy doing it and he never told us what the melted stuff on the soldering iron and so I thought it was melted hot glue gun refills, Oh god my controller I was testing now has a big bashy mess around the leds And I ended up breaking one led slot. If only I knew it was melted solder.... Aww well everything has a first time XD
@andreviloria - You need to move back and forth between the two points when the soldering iron is hot. You can tell it is hot enough when the solder melts instantly. It takes about 2-4 minutes for the iron to reach the right temp. Then move back and forth so the solder you put on touches each side and melts it. With the combination and light pressure, the old LED will eventually slide off. Do not force it off otherwise you will end up ripping off the old LED with the contact point that you need
@blueorchidvideos i put some sotter on the soldering iron and touched both ends and tried getting the LED off but its like stuck to the board,,,,*****please help
@SurrealModz _try a newer 15w soldering iron and giving it about 5-10 minutes to heat up. Once at the right temp, and with enough solder, the back and forth motion should ease the LEDs off.
putting them back on requires just as much patience. Its not hard, but don't expect it to just snap in place. Practice on something old first.
@SurrealModz It should be more than fine, the risk with using more than 15w is if you hold the point too long, (2 seconds -ish) you might start burning the board or other issues. I have heard that older soldering irons don't heat up enough and then people get frustrated and end up ripping the LEDs off with too much force. The LED should literally "float" off, just cover the existing contact points with solder, move back and forth to keep them both hot, and it will float off easily.
@SurrealModz did you break it? what happened? did the controller stop working or do the lights just not work? I am considering doing this to my controller and if the lights don't work if I fail then that is okay, but if the controller stops working then I would get pissed and probably won't try this
@DrewStares The shaking is because the camera is right in front of the circuit board and I had to either look through the LCS screen to do the work or stare around the camera while trying not to burn myself or the board. Its much easier to do without the camera in the way!
@blueorchidvideos oh haha. Hey well im haveing a problem putting my LEDs in, first of all, i took out all of my leds, flattened out the solder residue and i put my custom leds in, i didnt solder yet, but i put it over the slot, and it wont light up. I have tryed for 3 hours now and i have tryed this with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and fourth player. I also tryed with 5 diff leds to make sure the first one wasnt broken. Plze help.
Hey I just purchased a mod kit for my controller and when it said to like press here to download instuctions and it didn't have the download so can you tell me the instructions or message me
You use the AA batteries to power the controller so the LEDs light up as you are installing them. Either that or you can attach a USB cable from a laptop or PC. The point is to have the controller powered up, but the XBOX off so the controller keeps flashing all 4 lights.
no. You'd have to scrap the think plastic coating off the tiny cooper lead that lead to the missing mount and pray you can get the solder to adhere to that and the LED at the same time. Good Luck with that.
I have several customer buy all different colors and mix and match them just for fun. Makes their controllers stand out so when they go to a friends house, they don't get mixed up.
I provide 5 LEDs in case you lose one. Stealth/Sleeper indicates there are no new buttons added, you use the Sync button to change the speeds/mode you want.
I have another video posted that demonstrates how the Sleeper/Stealth mod works.
It depends what condition you get them off in. If they are still usable, I installed them in to my PS3 controller to change things up. Otherwise, yes they just get thrown out.
I sell it or Radio Shack. $1.50 for 1 foot length of the same solder I use for all installations with XBOX 360 controllers.
