  • Nice BGM tracks from this arcade classic! specially the Waterfall scene..i think ''Minibosses'' launched a played track but i think it can be better improved...this tunes really brings back great memories!

  • where did you got the music? i didnt found the original arcade game soundtrack

  • my game room in school has the konami 2006 home arcade i am even getting into the contra stuff and the music is KICK ASS.

  • UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A, START

  • Contra is one of those special cases where the console version is much, much better than the arcade version.

  • hahaha, love this game. especially the 2 main characters looking eerily like arnold and sly

  • Arcade snare drum 4tw!

  • I've been humming the jungle theme every once in a while since I was a kid, its amazing what musicians could do with such limited resources, today's video game music is fully orchestrated but not catchy at all

  • Talk about kick ass music! Damn it's got a better soundtrack then most generic games today. Cool vid

  • Well, arcade version looks piss easy, actually.

  • i think arcade is 16-bit/NES 8-bit right?

  • @ps123fan The Contra arcade machine had 2 8-bit processors.

  • Arcade and NES music: Oranges and apples, both are delicious but they are diferent

  • Yeah, but the SCC version on the MSX was the ambrosia ;)

  • The soundtracks of both versions are great, even though they are different.

The Jungle theme sounds much more technoish and badass on the NES, but the arcade version sounds so much more epic and emotional. Both are great.

The Base 1&2 theme sounds better on the NES, and so do the Waterfall and the Snowfield themes.

The song starting after the Snowfield sounds better on the arcade, not to mention it has additional parts.

  • Now, the Lair theme. To me it sounds MUCH better on the arcade.

I prefer the NES version of the boss theme.

The arcade has much more complex sound, but when it comes to the bassline, I think Contra for the NES uses the PCM channel really good. :)

I've been playing the NES version since a child and when I recently started playing the arcade version (using MAME), I was surprised at how different they are. I prefer the NES one, though - it's a great port of an already great game. :)

  • @WTFBOOMDOOM The Base theme sound like Crash Bandicoot music to me.

  • Why is the arcade version shorter than the NES version? Because what if your parents got sick and tired of you playing through a long game and wanted you to quit and walk away from it?

Anyway, the sound of the arcade version makes me think of the music in other Konami arcade games like Gradius and Crime Fighters. The NES version is overrated.

  • Personally, I like the NES music more. It's much faster paced.

  • what ever u say, this is some great music!

  • Wait, stages 5-8 of the Contra on Nes are just one big stage on the original Arcade?

  • The Nintendo version is actually the first one I had played but after giving it some careful consideration, the music arrangement, in my humble opinion, is better on the arcade version. I love the Nintendo version a lot, but there's just something about the industrial tone that the arcade game carries that I'm attracted to.

  • Isn't this is volume 1 already?

  • The NES version is, this is the arcade original.

  • I love how he times the start of Snow Field music perfectly with the music!

  • Boy, do i remember this arcade classic & it was also the 1st NES game i ever bought.

  • Great place to start!!

  • i actually like the nes version better

  • Everyone says that. I prefer the arcades....the only difference I see is the graphics and music...although I've heard the NES version has more levels. I don't get far enough in the arcade version to see that, heh.

  • I too, ifind it much more controllable :)

  • Arcade?

  • Now that I hear it, I think that never heared it before! Somehow I still prefer the NES version...

  • Absolutely steller LOVE LOVE LOVE this game on arcade as well as the NES game. You never cease to amaze me with the video game music you find. Keep up the good work. I play all your video play lists at work its what makes me be creative :)~

  • hahaha yeah me to :-)

    garudohs playlist

    and chiptunes saves the day

  • OMG this is soooo GREAT I love this game Arcade and NES. continue to supply us with all game music it gets me through every work day with your play lists !?!?!?!?!?! keep it up

  • Snow level tune still kicks ass to this day. This game is definitely one of the main reasons my channel exists, to be honest. Only Metroid influenced me more in noticing and appreciating game music, even as a little kid.

  • @garudoh I've been humming the jungle theme every once in a while since I was a kid, its amazing what musicians could do with such limited resources, today's video game music is fully orchestrated but not catchy at all

  • i could never beat lv 1 in this game...
