  • I don't like Cher's head

  • Yeah, this is a classic no doubt about it but you wouldn't think it from this performance on TOTP.

The problem is that these kinds of tracks never lent themselves to a performance on TOTP, or live anywhere for that matter. There are no vocals or vocalists (the sample doesn't count), and no instrumentalists. With neither vocalists nor instrumentalists, you need to work hard to make an engaging performance. There are 100s of other classic dance tracks that would've suffered the same fate.

  • @MrMikomi Yeah to be fair this is from a loooong time ago and we did ask to perform the track live with live scratching etc but TOTP were having none of it.. so we had to go down funky dancers/miming route and yes many 'dance acts' also fell into this TOTP trap :(

  • such a tune

  • Lee and Herring presenting T.O.T.P.!

  • his dancers are hot...

  • omg this is so lame.. whats the point of the lil mic on the black guy....... sad....

  • @TheFatCampCrew The black guy is Roger "Wildchild" McKenzie, the guy who wrote the track.

Top Of The Pops wanted a "Live" performance from Roger but didn't cater for an actual live set hence the miming with the small Mic, just how it was those days really, unfortunately Roger died a month later.. now that's sad.

  • @cutlaroc2 love the track. tragic death indeed, i heard he died inside a club? everything at some point would seem lame, fortunately, things are not always what they seem. this track is out of this world and the fatboy slim old skool version revoltionalized the way the human race perceive music as we know it. okay i might have exaggerated a bit but... if you know the song, you know what i mean. D for Damager, Power To The People. Back Once Again For The Renegade Master.

  • @dmitrilessy r u kidding?? fatboy slim mix is terrible! Stripped of all its raw house groove. original 4 life. RIP roger

  • Yes that's correct.

  • ...Ah, so the rapping is a sample of Eddie Castellanos ('One For The Trouble' by A.D.O.R.): watch?v=Gt5Y5w4vL9U

  • This imho is the definative House track of the 90's.

I remember this being played in the bars & clubs in Liverpool and everyone (Male and Female) going mental for it.

This piece of music stands out from all the others, personally I dont like the Fatboy Slim remix, he just added unnecessary noise to a perfect tune.

    Respect to Rodger and Lee.

  • it was a club hit in Belgium back in 95

  • reel 2 real is better than this and children by robert miles is a classic it might be 99 but i think its 2000

  • @dom123435 You're probably right mate, still sold enough copies to get to number 11 though, so can't be that bad eh ;)

  • @cutlaroc2 - I still got my Orig cd singles of the tune. One in a purple cover (hilife) with the tall paul remix on and the other in a blue sleeve (hilife) with the instrumental on there!! Bonus!

    Classic Tune!

  • @dom123435

Different tracks WTF are you on about!

  • I miss him... he passed away in front of me on my birthday after we'd arranged to meet at The Lizard Lounge... we were all traumatised!!! Ray is one of my closest friends. Way too young Rog!

  • @MsLexi1980 would love to hook back up with Ray, hit me up on here with his email or number if that's cool? he still designing clothes?

  • Legendary stuff. People still remember the dance/house tunes of the 1990's. Who can remember a good one from the 2000's + ????

    There isnt many.

  • @SuperSean2003 slow down

  • cher as jimmy saville

  • No the turntables weren't connected, we asked for them to be plugged in so i could scratch over the top of the backing track but they weren't having any of it!

  • Funny how dance music always had to have some kind of performance back when tracks sometimes landed in the charts, even when there was nothing to perform - unless you'd want to watch at a producer in the studio. Are those turntables even on? Pretty good track though.

  • Stuart Lee and Richard Herring presenting TOTP! Madness!

  • a decent remix!

  • @WhiteKnight402 Tiz the original mix :D

  • Lee and Herring! what a weird combo

  • RIP Roger....seems along time ago...and props go out to all the southampton oldschool...Ray and Paul...who were never parted from Roger in the early days...Dean and Tony and the rest of the masters bboy crew...Aries bboy crew

  • RIP Roger McKenzie.

  • this is style!

  • too bad Wildchild passed away.

  • stfu noob

  • Wow ! @Herring1967 DID present TOTP !

  • real special song check out mister-e renegade master 2

from a.d.o.r.s label @ Itunes & the ringtone phat newer Big mixes with all the original vocals straight from a.d.o.r. the real renegade master

  • thanks for sharing this - i remember when i first saw this and i loved it. Thought i liked the original better than the Fatboy Slim remix but i am not sure now!

  • Hi Mayena, sorry to be a smart arse but he did actually emigrate to New York with his girlfriend Donna Snell and came back temporarily when 'Renegade Master' which was featured on his self released 'Dark Black' 12" series got picked up by Hi-life records and subsequently became a top 15 hit, and then of course re-released after Roger had died with a Fatboy Slim remix that topped the charts.

  • He was suppose to emigrate to New York City before he unexpectatly died.

  • Seriously, the women in this video are just amazingly good dancers and yet look like they just finished in Kool School ;p

  • Holy fuck this is.......epicly amazing

  • :) glad you enjoyed

  • :) And excuse my French

  • Bump,is it just me or is the volume low on the video :P? Also you wouldn't mind sending me this video ? :)

  • Hmm not sure about Volume, This clip was sent to me by a friend that works for the BBC directly so is straight from the BBC archives.

  • I went to school with Roger,we were always badgering him to do the "moonwalk" and all his bodypopping moves.Brilliant lad.R.I.P

  • Ha ha, bless, Do you know Ray, Rogers mate?

  • yeah i knew Ray Williams, big scary lad,he`was the hardest lad in our year,he was a good laugh though,Roger and Ray were always together, when i look back, its funny cos Ray was the cool kid and Roger was more geeky, with his thick black glasses,he was probably just ahead of his time!

  • Ha ha yeah ahead of his time indeed, Ray is cool, gonna try and get hold of him to catch up :)

  • man, this kicks ass.

it took me a bit to get into it.

  • thanks for that paula yates joke i cant relate to.

those guys are just one-liner sluts.

  • this is the MOST old skool anything can ever get

  • a.d.o.r. is the real artist who created this amazing energy his lyrics his vocal performance check him out he is an incredible artist

  • Yes, i know.

  • Huuuge image improvement with &fmt=18.

  • My favourite memory of Roger was me and him sitting Downstairs in a Club i ran listening through Soft Rock albums trying to find breaks while upstairs it was Bangin' House. A brilliant bloke and an even better DJ.That Boy could mix. R.I.P Roger

  • Indeedy, sadly missed! :(

  • Happy Memories. Funny little aside - the song that Lee & Herrign are introducing at the end of the clip would be Alice by Smokie feat. Roy 'Chubby' Brown. I'm guessing I'd have been about 13

  • ha ha yeah, we had to retake the start of the tune as the kids kept shouting "Who The Fu*k is Alice despite being told not too about 20 times!

  • What a clasic choooooon

I was 15 when this came out and first heard it on a graeme park tape on boxed, it pisses all over the other versions

Does anyone have the full version ?

I have 2 copys on vinyl with 4 mixes each but i sold my decks like a fekin chump

I can remeber when he died someone told me he had been run over outside a club in sheffield

    R.I.P Wildchild

  • Well, as you can see below he didn't get run over in Sheffield, Roger passed away in a bar in his home town of Southampton.

  • what a great tune !

thanks for the upload - I ve been all over youtube and there a many versions but this is hard to find.

    cheers.

  • No problemo, great tune indeed :)

  • M2 (before it became MTV2 and stopped playing music videos) played the video alot. What did Wildchild die of.

  • I'm not entirely sure (bad..i know!!)

I think it was classed under natural causes though, was very weird seeing as Rogers favorite tipple was Milk! and i know for a fact he wasn't into drugs of any sort!

  • Ok. I just went to Wikipedia and it was listed under Roger McKenzie and he passed away from an undiagnosed heart condition. Way too young. :`(

  • Indeed, he worked very hard to achieve this success as well, released numerous 12" on Loaded Records before starting his record label Dark Black(which originally released Renegade Master in a veeery small quantity!)

    A shame indeed.

  • and i will second that.

    R.I.P Roger

  • Thanks for posting this. Damn, this brings back some great memories :D

  • Indeed, they were the days eh, quality tunes always got the radio buzzing, NOT like now eh!!

  • hi there cutlaroc, you know you are right about the tunes being well?a very far cry from what they were at this time and indeed before then,my names mike im 29 and i,d love to shake your hand mate i just suddenly woke up with that tune in my head it was a simple thing like this that got me through a bad day!jeeze i sound like a freak but seriously though nothings the same these days are you working on any new oldskool stuff?

  • I fucking love this song, but i had always thought that it was Fat Boy Slim who originally made this song. I guess i know the real truth now!

  • you knew him? youre from brighton? fatboy and wildchild were any close?? close friends its what i mean

  • That's me on the decks!

Yes i'm from Brighton (Cut La Roc)

No Norman and Roger weren't close at all, i think Roger had met Norman once or twice possibly but Skint records hadn't begun yet and Roger had recorded and released some tracks on Loaded (label before Skint started) before moving to New York for a while which is when Renegade Master blew up for the 1st time, he then moved back over here temporarily with his girlfriend Donna Snell who was also pregnant with their son Noir,

  • unfortunately after we recorded T.O.T.P i think it was about 3 weeks later that Roger passed away.

  • ooooooh so youre the Dj, got it, damn! and roger didnt ever meet his son, what a shame. Hey man, thanks for make the time to explain.

  • No problem :)

  • Oh crap, this was a month before WildChild died.

  • Yes was a very sad day for me and everyone that knew him, his music lives on though and i had some great times with him :)

  • Honestly I like this original better, I don't like how fatboy cuts and repeats short fractions of the sample.

  • sounds really good I must admit, but Fat Boy Slim made it a massive hit sing.

  • Right, so THIS IS the original, waaay before fatboy slim remixed it in 98. Am I right?

  • Yes you're right :)

  • do you know this performance's date?

  • Sure.. 19/10/1995

  • wow! so i was fifteen when that single came out! hehehe amazing... thanks

  • Ha! I was 12. Takes me back.
