If you like hvorostovsky, listen to ettore bastianini- He is the spiritual ancestor of hvorostovsky in a way. Similar dark tone, and passionate phrasing, but believe it or not, more of an even line to his voice.
I think Dmitri is far more talented and interesting as musician. His Tchaikovsky is warmer, purer with MUCH MORE variety of sound, very human and honest.
I quite agree. Saw him at Rhyl (of all places) in about 1990. Sang loads of Tchaik. Absolutely enthralling. As good as Sergei Leiferkus any day - better (or at least sweeter) voice - and nearly as good an enterpreter!
