It's actually suggested by his creators that he's really blonde, because his mother might have been Western while his father was from Japan. That's why he doesn't look all that Japanese compared to say... Taki.

It's just a theory, but it's a cool idea, don't you think~

Maxi IS originally a blonde, if you remember the original SC, he was blonde, and his outfit was the exact same as his secondary in the later games (the dragon pants with the KungFu shoes and the tattoo).

And in SCII onward, His hair was black, and his outfits were more of a nod toward Elvis (because of the hair style). So in that sense, Maxi is a natural blonde, he just dyed it black.

No he isnt! His hair is black. It was blonde because of the game color, and graphics. And in the original SE AND SC sophitia's hair was ORANGE why? Because of the color, and graphics they weren't that good back then. Maxi is indian.

nope. in soul calibur 1 his player 1 costume was a white suit with black hair, and his player 2 suit was blond with no top on.

@Ilikenuman There's a suggestion by some fans that his parents were the victims of racial attacks - we know his father was Japanese so his mother may have been from the West and Maxi was born with lighter hair and dyes it as a result.
