  • We have turned our whole front yard and half our back yard into garden and orchard, this is an urban area and a 500 sq ft lot with a !200 sq ft home. We have chicken and no front lawn, just raised beds full of food. A lot can be grown on even an average home property. Just remember "Food Not Lawns". Lawns are WASTE.

  • Whoa, Seth Galifianakis is real...

  • Amen brutha! Read Walden. It's all in there.

  • I used to grow my own food; raise animals, until an arrow hit my knee.

  • @FrapsYou Isn't that a joke that all geeks are using now?

  • @RobinEH94 I am not geek until an arrow hit my knee.

  • @FrapsYou At least get it right....

  • CREDIT CARDS EQUAL BAD.....HAHAHAHAH

  • lol me and my friend hunt small game i the woods behind my house its mr like a blocks walk and its been called the pasture for years cause my parent used to hunt there to and it used to have cows so we pretty much help feed our familys with the occasional squirrel or rabbit

  • Bravo! What else is there to say?

  • this man i a very opinionated man and i like the way he thinks i hope he can keep it up.

  • you are so lucky that i cant comment in all other videos that u have...

  • Gasoline $3.75 a gallon. Everyone should shop at there neighborhood store so it will be possible to walk. Arab uprising continues inflation is high. I grow my own cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, basil and green onions outside and have a 8 month growing season. Farmland prices are way up. Cattle, hogs and goats should be kept in the southwest US away fom waterways. US and Canada will have to become better farmers and grow more corn, wheat, soybeans, and sugar beets.

  • @bluemountaindrivepae not soybeans that will make people cowards they are packed with estrogen eat real meat soy already has made so many people less couragace and less manly.

  • The economy that should exist for everyone's benefit is being used against us by the clever guys who think they are so smart. You talk about enslavement but the alternative is socialism and everyone is brainwashed from a young age to abhor cooperation and helping your neighbor ... anyone, you sure do like to talk, it's amazing how you ramble on and on. ;-)

  • @justgivemethetruth Brother, socialism IS enslavement! It is also brother to Communism. I can introduce several people who escaped from communist and truly socialist countries and they will tell you it IS enslavement.

  • @10yearvet

The closest thing there is to socialism is found in the west in Sweden, mostly in northern Europe, the countries with the highest standard of living in the world. What you want to call socialism is exactly what the US is starting to become - tyranny of the powerful. Russia, China, they all put people in power claiming they were going to be socialist, but they are all tyrannies. Get your terms right or don't bother me.

  • @justgivemethetruth Our terms are exactly the same. I commented on only one aspect of your statement due to lack of space on this board! I think we may differ on the application. there is a difference between social programs and total socialism. one will help those who have lived, or try to live responsibly yet are in need, the other gives absolute power to gov't officials placing the citizen at their absolute mercy, thus leading to tyranny.

  • @10yearvet

    > the other gives absolute power to gov't officials

non-democratic ideas of socialism are either despotic or fascistic ... socialism must be democratic or it is not socialism, at least in my book. the problem is that some large powerful group gets global ideas and must turn the world hostile to push everyone to take sides and join the military machine ... then all bets are off on eveything ... that is what the US has turned into.

  • @10yearvet i like the way you think not everyone is the same but thats way socialism is its also a sweden belief they think eveyone is the same even people who work hard and provide the food for their family they compare them as the same to hobos.

  • I can't agree more. Remember though that if you just plant in the ground, all of your money will go to cargill and monsanto. You will need irrigation, fertilizer and equipment. If you are interested in growing do a search on "aquaponics". You raise fish which fertilize and add co2 to the water you pump the water through pvc to potted plants in hydro media, they use the co2 and filter the water. No need for fertilizer. Grow algae, no need for fish or animal feed. Fresh fish for free!

  • The US government will NOT stand for this kind of thinking. Taxes are needed so that people from third world countries will come and get welfare, etc., and vote for the dirty politicians who provide the programs to them. If you think that you can get away with growing your own food, etc., your wrong! The government will take your land away in exchange for the taxes you should have paid!

  • @aTellerOfTruths Oh my friend. You are right to be mad about our government giving money to other countries. But you should really be mad about all the people in OUR OWN COUNTRY that CHOOSE to live on welfare and WIC and get food stamps. That my dear fellow, is the real problem. Our country has always given away alot of money. But only in the last few decades have as many people in our country lived off of the government by choice.

  • i noticed you said rent, do most americans rent their homes rather than owner occupy?

  • Where you and I differ, I had rather do what I do for a decent wage and with a portion of my earnings, pay someone more willing and able to till the soil.

Now if you're unemployed...knock yourself out. It's the only way to feed you and your family unless you choose to stand with the ne'er-do-wells in the cheese line.

  • My time is money. If I take my money and pay a guy to grow my food, then good for him and me. I'm not bound by him or enslaved. I'm exercising a choice. I agree about staying away from credit, though.

  • i know what u mean i have so much procude in my garden we give it to our faimly and neiborghs

  • well said

  • I am not an ati-social person but from what i gather, most people are out for themselves or need instant gratification to function. Most of our society is going down the hole fairly quick!

Also, Social Security= risky business! If possible, plan another way to save for retirement.

    Take Care,

    John

  • I agree, it's hard to believe some people do not know were food comes from.

Credit cards can be a bad thing. However, They can be asset if people know how credit works. I highly reccomend spending a few minutes on reading\watching up on credit card utilization ratios and how credit scores work. Even a person with bad credit can re-build thier credit in a quick ass hurry!

    Damn good vid!

Thanks for posting! It makes me think about so many things and how they effect society as a whole!

  • Preach it brother.

  • I use my fish entrails/heads for my gardening fertilizer.

  • from your MRE video to this ...WoW ...I'm glad I found this because while I watched the MRE video I thought "what are you thinkin'?!?

thanks for sharing these more practical thoughts

  • As a dedicated socialist, I applaud your video. Let us now break the bonds of this capitalist society. Comrades, rise up!

  • Cant you buy a pack of cucumber seeds for cheaper than 82 cents? the price for one thing now a days is just too high.

  • very good point!! i think im gonna put some of this info in action this spring!

  • Great videos keep it up.

  • come to canada u pay so much more for every thing i payed 5 bucks for a singel cucumber

  • you should grow cannabis on that field.

  • Commercial food is nasty and dirty.

  • The simple answer to why they don't do these things is this. Most people are idiots.

  • it used to come from the ground..im on key with this...watch food inc documentary

  • creditcard=slave to who you borrow it from. People! Plant potatoes, and sweet potatoes. Sunchokes(jerusalem artichokes), they come back each year with more, and you don't have to harvest them until you need some, the rest keep fine in the ground till you need more. Plant things that give good yeild, most pounds per row. Also plant the most high energy foods like beans taters squash onions garlic, etc.

  • Food comes from water.

  • Your right, everyone is brain washed, we are slaves to the rich who make up about 10 percent of us and they run and control everything. What state are you in, I don't see mountians anywhere.

  • it's called capitalism...you enslaved yourselves to materialistic objects like money, cars etc.

  • Enjoy working with your plantation every day to be able to feed your family, I'll just buy food with my credit card and live in a modern city.

  • vegetarian old Indian word for bad hunter

  • i like this guys vids

  • I know of a guy who never needs to go to a store. His name is Koa and he has knows enough about wild foods that he can live off of them. I know that is not for everyone but that is how he has freed himself you might like to look him up on youtube. he can seem a little nutty at times but you might like his philosophies on 'true freedom'

  • 'comes from the grouund' man i love yur accent even though i'm dutch,

and you're damn right 'bout everything.... do somethin' for yourselves!!!

everything is right except the flowers-part, 'you can't eat flowers, flowers arent gonna fill your belly, flowers arent gonna help your grocery store bill' aaaaaaaahahahahahahah oh boy you're just asking for a teaser!!!!

  • lol well most of us who went to college dont think 89 cents is alot but or those who slacked in school it must be alot lol

  • this guy talks so much common sense i love it excellent video!

  • @packleader38 that made absolutely no sense your an idiot.

  • Our constitution in section1 article 10 paragraph 1 demands our money be silver and gold. the price of Gas is much lower then it was in gold or silver when gold is used for money. Of course mininum wage is less then 1 silver doller per hour.

  • heck yea man i totally agree with you its good to know there's still good people out there that realize what is happening

  • This isn't that crappy "loincloth knife" survival crap you see on the discovery channel. This is just regular people telling people how they can, while keeping modern conveniences, get a little closer to the earth and a little less dependent on the modern tech. You dont have to eat a rabbit alive to be a survivalist.

  • flowers aren't gonna fill your belly

  • survivalistboards blows these guys are abunch of wannabes, you know the type armchair survivalists. Also if you discuss pretty much everythign these little freaks will ban you. The level of political correctness on thie rmessage forum would make even the most liberal S.O.B from San Francisco proud....You have been warned...BEWARE !!

  • I ended up seeing it on Survivalistboards. I have been thinking of growing something actually just not sure what. Canning is definitely the next thing to learn, I think.

  • are some people really stupid and nieve enough to believe that meat produce just....comes from a store? lmao.. but in all fairness this dude re-awakened me to just how much I could be saving by doing these things myself, hats off to you man.

  • @MrRedeyedJedi You spelled naive wrong...oh the irony

  • @TheChocolateBanana haha ah i love it

  • Hi,

signed up to your forum today, no email confirmation received, not allowed to post and pain for a merchant account but no instructions on how to proceed?

  • He is working on a good topic because some if not most people believe that meat comes from stores not animals. That is a sad sad thing, don't you believe

  • Ive noticed on almost all of your other vids, you block comments? Any reason? I understand there can be alot of idiots out there, but thats no reason to block everone... thanks your time and vids!

  • if you want to save money on food get a garden if you have a stocked pond fish it if you have a 22 shoot small game (legally) and provide 2 meals a week for your self

  • sun = free energy for everything. electric cars are MORE powerful than gas powered vehicles. imagine that? not to mention electro magnets can provide unlimited power for a lifetime. yes its been done, where is our version? why cant I buy the magnet engine? why isnt my car solar powered? wtF? its just metal and plastic...it isnt that advanced, why wont they release it to us? why? why? FUCK EM, lets get some smart people together and start this shit ourselves, fuck profit, just help us!

  • world needs more pessimists like him

    rofl

  • Great post! I live in an apt. in LA and manage to grow my own tomatoes, peppers beans, oranges... all in 5 gallon buckets on my decks.... man, what I could do with an acre or two?!?!?! .... see you on the board

  • its cleveland lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

  • @StrykingHawk I think you could plant a few vegies in some pots that you could put out on your deck or window sill. or maybe try hanging tomatoes.

  • Credit cards are a free 30 day loan if you pay off the balance every month. Then some of these nice companies even pay you 1% of your purchases in cash. Only a shear idiot would chastise these great cards.Unless of course you don't have the discipline to pay them off.. but then you probably wouldn't be able to keep a proper garden either.

  • i have subscribed and rated ur vid 5 stars.

  • i have 5 acres of land. none of it is used for food, this video made me think :D

  • I agree with you mister. i can't stand being robbed at the store. I live in an apt that has a field out back. I asked the manager if I could put in a garden . He said yes as long as it was a collective garden, I could not find a single tenant to help with the work. i got my son to do the digging I planted , Out of a space 20 by 30 feet i had tomatoes and cucumbers all season . I shared the harvest with the neighbors there was too much food, You can garden in 5 by 10 feet.just do it!

  • He brings up some valid points, food is way to expensive today, but before you harvest food from the earth, you must first know actually how to do it.

I would suggest going to a small farm and asking the owner for some basic tips or skills of farming vegetables etc., If u live in a metropolitan area like i do , forget about it ! IF you want to save money get on a written budget and get out of debt!! Dave Ramsey's books and teachings about money and debt are a good place to start

  • garlic and tomato grow really easily

  • Spending all of the wealth that you generate through your labor to provide you and your dependants with housing, energy and food is not called enslavement, it is called the human condition.

For thousands fo years people struggled from daylight to dark to provide basic needs. I am speaking of food, water, shelter.

All of the luxxuries and free time that we have come to expect as spoiled Americans is a recent development in human history.

  • my feeling exactely and do you mind if i use that motto lol

  • I like how hes saying to do all of this....but i see a pretty damn empty lot there!

  • Have you forgotten Mao, Hitler, Uzbekistan? They starve the people to control them. Remember, Remember, Remember!!

  • 89 cents wow u think 80 cents for a cucumber is expensive u cheap bastard

  • As for cards. I said fuck it. Took some card and stocked with about $8k in food. Killed the TV, Cell phones eating out and have paid off the cards quick. Now...all cash only. no more cards. CASH IS KING. Now I'm stocking fuel. This garden will be beans and pickles. I bought a double...friends used to look down at us...now they envy our $800 month rent inflow. HA. Fuck you NWO. We're all wise to your shit. I'm teaching my kid. Yes to a simple life. next up...solar.

  • Credit Cards aren't bad. People who can't manage their money are the problem.

  • @CivicFiberglassDoor If you are not using the CC as a loan (you pay it off right away), why do you even need the credit card? Just skip it.

  • @jchahine Because I need them to purchase things over the internet. I won't use a debit card because that is directly tied to my bank account and a credit card has more protections than a debit card.

  • You are smart.

  • This guy aint that stupid.

  • credit cards are fine as long as you pay what you owe everytime on time. If you cant handle that then don't touch the cards.

  • @SRNF if you pay them on time, why do you even need them? I'm serious. are you really living that close to the edge that you need to extend your cash flow 25 days at the risk of them zinging you with a "gotcha!"? They change the billing cycle on people all the time then charge them a late fee and interest. "Gotcha!!"

  • The governments are trying to pass laws that will make it illegal to grow your own garden. The laws will be directed at food suppliers and processors but will be added to include home owners as well. They will claim that you dont know how to safely handle your food so the law will be needed.

  • Wow yea im gunna have to wave the bullshit flag on that! The government would never even consider doing anything like that unless you the retard growing pot out back with the tomatoes.

  • LOL! Is that also like the government would never consider poisoning the drinking water in many U.S. cities with fluoride and chemicals? Conjecture on your part at this point makes you a good little monkey for the governments. Try doing your homework in the future before you start spewing about something you know very little about. I'm "gunna" have to classify you as a real schmuck at this point until you get an education and stop smoking the dope yourself in the backwaters. What a mealy-mouth!

  • HAHA! Whata homo mabey they are rite mabey you are the reatrd that does not know how to hanndle your own food. And why dont you get your own life move out of your mothers basement sell that pot that you have been growing out with your mothers flowers and start drinking some of that fluoride and chemicals that the government has "supposedly" been putting i your water. crazy communist!

  • Jstrail101 <-----Still hasn't done his homework. Only offers insults as that is all he has in his bag of tricks. Lacks the ability to come back to the table with real counter arguments.

  • haha yea try doin some of your own "homework" and stop ranting and raving about the government no one really cares what they do they are all idiots they are the ones who go up into this mess were in rite now if they get us into this mess maby then they will start caring abouut your little problems that you have go by some bottled water or get the bretta that takes out the chems in the water like civilized people do.

  • To those so fascinated with reaping benefits of being high up the social pyramid by stomping on others - you are trading your freedom for the luxury of feeling superior, it will take its tool on you, if it hadn't already, usually by decreased mental health. We are supposed to treat each other with compassion, respect and share the results of our work.

  • cool video, some good, positive advice that anybody can use

  • i'm enslaved but what can be done :(

  • Your gas ain't cheap, that's for sure.

But look at it this way, where I live (Germany for now) it's 5 bucks a Gallon.

I sure do miss the U.S.

At least all my Mom has is a scooter :-) at 3 Liters for 100 Km/h.

  • Think of society as a pyramid. The many bricks at the bottom hold up the few bricks at the top. Those underneath toil, and those above reap the rewards. That's neither good nor bad. That's just how things are.

Some people see that big picture and think they ought to stick it to the Man. Personally, I like being the Man.

  • Are you stupid? Your pyramid theroy doesn't work buddy. Those at the top of the pyramid create jobs for those at the bottom of the pyramid. Last time I checked, a poor person has never given me a job. Unlike a pyramid, society is ran by the people on top, not the lower class. I'm in the middle of the pyramid working my way to the top by stomping on all the lower bricks. If that makes you mad, then you're prolly a socialist Obama lover.

  • Chill and read my comment again, dude.

Who said anything about the poor creating jobs? The bottom bricks work to live and live to work. I have no problem with that since I'm closer to the top.

I also however, recognize that the many wage-earners below my station contribute to my own wealth by doing jobs that I personally find unpleasant.

Like I said previously, it's neither good nor bad; just the way things are. You can either fight the system or take advantage of it. I prefer the latter.

  • you are literally the most retarded person ive ever met lol what is your middle pyramid hmm? 35,000 dollar income??? maybe a nice little prius in your garage or maybe a tv in your moms basement??? Obama lover lol im not saying you should like Obama but seriously when you say "socialist Obama lover" it makes you sound like a faggot and a dumbass

  • I don't get these people that work and spend all that time just to grow some dumb flowers that only attract bees and do nothing else.

  • Some people (like my family) grow flowers in the front yard and vegetables in the back.

  • Excellent video and oh so true! People allow themselves to get sucked into massive debt living well beyond on there ability to pay. Living on credit and killing themselves for what? We grow our garden and we have our chickens so we save a lot that way. Learn to can and preserve save even more. If more people did this they would have more of that hard earned money to save or use. I chopped my credit cards YRS ago and refuse to get more!

  • Credit cards= BAD! Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • @racrdave thats an ignorant comment from someone who has no idea what they are talking about, way to make yourself look stupid for millions of people to see.

  • I love this video. Well done.

  • Nice you have some room to make your self a food forest!

  • your granddad was older than your dad? no shit sherlock! LMAO!

  • LOLLL

  • i no. u buy then i think seperate. u could buy it in a set if u want just what peps are selling

  • Hey yo. When you buy the MRE did you buy them in set or you can order the menu seperately.

  • Backwoodsboy.... welcome back

  • Apartment dwellers can use pots. No excuses.

    They even have wall-mount gardens.

  • Good points. Social Security, which you mentioned in the video, is one of the main programs keeping us enslaved to others. The agrarian life is probably the best way around this enslavement for now. You're the first person I've seen on youtube to express the concept of independence like this.

  • very good video my friend 5 stars

  • Bravo! It can be as simple as all that. Put a seed in the ground, and watch it grow. Make sure that what you plant is beneficial to your wallet. I too, won't plant anything that doesn't give me back something. I also raise chickens because they give me back eggs, fertilizer and pest control.

  • both "thechocolatebanana" and "backwoodsboy350" are trolls.

just jealous and have nothing better to do.

  • and you big asian are a tool. hahaha ive never been called a troll. why dont you elaborate a little and tell us what you mean by that

  • Comment removed

  • Good Man, everyone should hit the subscribe button...

  • good video

  • this dude is awesome he would be one of the survivors in a zombie apocalypse

  • you dont think hard, you think smart! I agreee with what you say. We are all enslaved to society, except for the upper class, lucily president barrack Obama is finnally going to give higher taxes to people who make over $200,000, i want a food garden, but my parenst dont want one, they want a FLOWER GARDEN. I agree with your saying by the way. I LOVE HOW YOU THINK( i hate credit cards too lol)

  • well why would you want to tax people making over 200 grand? those people are typically business owners who create jobs. you think taxing the bigger guys will make them be able to hire people? no. therefore, everyone will hurt from this. what most people dont understand is that the government doesnt create jobs or money. the people making all the money do

  • But just taxing the smaller guys wont encourage them to spend any money. Bigger guys make money from middle class buying stuff from them. If tax is too high, then middle class would stop spending money and bigger guys will notice a decrease/drop in profit and fire some of its employees.

  • i agree totally. i believe the less taxes the better. everyone should have the same tax rate. im just saying if you tax the big guys more than everyone else than it will cause a chain reaction of hurting everyone and the economy will hurt as it is right now

  • Backwoodsboy

You are so right, with the education we have these days you can't expect most young to understand these basic principle. I guess it is up to us to educate these ignorant people even though we pay taxes out the ..... for others to teach them these basics.

  • well the stock broker making a million a year isnt making any jobs...

  • i like the way you think!

  • it did happen in certain things. grain prices did double this summer. certain fruits and vegetables did double

  • helliott123 -you should watch your language when posting comments. Your account has been blocked.

  • I like this dude..

  • thank you for the motivation pretty informative.

  • its about $7.50 here in the uk thats about £5.00

  • if i had a field that big i would fill it with edibles

  • Yep. It was only 20 years ago you could get an entire paper bag of field cukes for $1.00 CAN U-Pick.

Same as corn. Corn cobs $1/dozen CAN

Bananas this time last year was .44 CAN/lb, now is .79 CAN/lb

  • .89 cents for a cucumber is cheap. In Alaska they are $1.69 each !!

  • I second that!

  • Gas here in Norway costs 6 $ gallon.

  • i hear your govmt invested most of petro-dollars in the US market, while selling it to u at those prices!

    interesting, isn't?

  • I know. US cars cost 3 times more due to taxes.

    Norway is taxes on taxes.

The original gas price in Norway is 1$ a gallon, the rest is taxes.

  • you are correct; however, the "masses" in urban areas dont have the possibility to grow food (because they do not have land); land ownership (at least in Europe) is an oligopoly; so is energy;

    we are enslaved, true.

  • you forget though that in most of the world the majority of peoples income goes to food we here are lucky that less than 1/2 of our income goes towards food. Maybe things are catching up with us and more of our income is going to start going towards food.

  • also fresh chemical free foods

  • It's o.k. to buy food our economy depends on it.I own a business and understand that by buying the .85 cent cucumber I'm providing jobs.Farmer plants, farmer working.Harvests crops and delivers to grocery store, trucker working.Grocery store displays produce he's working. He needs a building to keep food in plumbers electicians and carpenters working. I buy it,cashier working.Remember many 3rd world countries grow there own food and they sleep on dirt floors in crappy shacks. Are they better off ?

  • in my opinion..........yes they are

  • slavery is not gone watch youtube video zeitgeist and you know all about it.this is scary,we all got to have strong faith.its all inside.

  • I think that society has "evolved" to not be as self-sufficient because it's easier to pay people for services if you can, as well as doing service(s) yourself. I agree in the present, most people are enslaved to their bills, debt, when they could become self-sufficient, or more self-sufficient and have more wealth.

  • To break free from these social and cultural bonds in society you need to introspect for a while. If one has grown up in an urban co-dependent environment throughout their childhood, then it takes some isolation and contemplation to mentally break free and consider being a lot more self-sufficient and maybe even breaking free, physically, from the urban environment.

  • you gotta point

  • I love most of them, but this is your most important video.

  • One day I told my grandpa, "Hey. Are you busy? Let's grow a garden". He use to farm so I figure he knew what he was doing. It was late in the season so all we could grow was turnip greens. And after that our garden kept growing and growing and getting bigger and bigger. Thing is, me and my grandpa are growing everything possible, even stuff we don't need. And my parents are still going out and BUYING stuff that we are growing. Then they complain they have no money. I swear...

  • I envy the way your living man. I yurn for self suffecency. We try but it's harder living in a sub-division. We have raised beds and have grown quite a bit of food this year and we hit the farmers markets. We also can alot of food but I need room to run, and a place that I feel safe at.

  • Love this video it makes a point. If MOST people grew MOST of there food the prices of food in the store would go way down. Now only if we could make our own gas hehe man that would really throw a wrench in the gears for the middle east

  • Good video Kevin. I agree, it is ridiculous how much we depend on others for our own survival and well being.

  • great motto.

  • Oh my gawd! Is this United States of America? The most powerful nation of the world? lol

  • Debt are only a problem if you intend to repay your dept!

  • excellent video.... this is sooo true... thank ou for your time and passion to educuate the masses... i plan on doing the same thing...

  • "...i'm sittin out here walkin..."

    Love the videos!!!

    That was funny.

I just saw the video with you and your son. I wish I had that with my dad. Keep it up. Those are moments you both will cherish.

  • I have to thank You, Kevin!

You´re making great videos, especially this one I like!

I wish in Germany it would be this easy to get a hold of guns and rifles, whether it be for self defense in your home, or for hunting.

I´m very interested in anything what your channel´s about, and I´ll check out your site for sure!

    (TheSearchForTheLight, my main channel)

    Have agood time,

    Tommy

  • ps.: needed a little break from all the madness, that´s why I opened up another account, to not be forced to check my inbox for a while.
