Minimalist version of this heart-stopping, far-flung aria. Proves that when a singer from the heart does a stripped-down version of a well-written song, it still works. Well done, Sinead.
@jamescerne i dont think so, In this scene Serena is overwhelmed with emotion because she is forced to bury her husband who was killed in front of her, and she doesnt even have enough money to bury him,and is threatened by the statement of turning his body over to the medical students. This is a mother with children who lost her husband and the killer's girlfriend has the nerve to come to the funeral. How does this capture all of that?... i dont think it adds up
@kaloolee I agree that Sinead O'Connors interpretation of the song wouldnt work in a fully staged production of P&B because yes, Serena's is singing from a place of heightened desperation at that point in the story, but once the song is removed from the specific context of the story, and preformed as a stand alone piece. I definitely think there is room for great freedom of interpretation. The grueling unrelenting, private loneliness of this version is totally valid to me.
Thank you for this "vid". I've searched that track on the Net since years ! I have the album and it's probably my fav. song ! It's just a masterpiece !

@kaloolee I disagree completely - it's just very understated, but still very emotional.
