Picture Hawks management watching this performance from up above salivating at the possibility of acquiring Stephane Beauregard and a 4th round pick from the Sabres.
This was Haseks coming out party. But nobody could touch Lemieux during these days.. look how many chances he had and this was the Stanley Cup Final!!
@kratoslinkmaster -Chicago would have either gotten swept or lost in 5. Barasso stood up just as tall, evidenced by that big cup he won the night of these highlights.
Lemieux always said Hasek was the toughest goalie he ever played against. He only had a goal and 2 assists in this game - could have been 3 or 4 goals. Makes you wonder what would have happened if Hasek played the whole series...
@jkappianaq No that was game 6 of the 91 finals at Minnesota. This was game 4, which Pittsburgh won 6-5 to sweep the series. Hasek let in 4 goals and yet still made these saves. Tells you how badly the Pens offense was outplaying Chicago's D. Hasek was the unproven one and Belfour you just couldn't trade. It hurt 3 years after trading the Dominator because Belfour was dealt in favour of Jeff Hackett who was swapped for Jocelyn Thibault. Hasek meanwhile became maybe the best goalie ever.
First off, I agree with everybody who says these should be the standard size of goalie pads. These pads force goalies to challenge and move around more and makes it harder to stop pucks, but they do help em move quicker and it's a lot more interesting. Second, Dominik displayed all he ever did in his entire career in this single game: stop a lot of pucks in dazzling ways. what he did when stopping a puck blew my mind, and he still stopped it. He set the standard for "WHAT A FUCKIN' SAVE!
And people say nobody will get near 80 goals or 100 assists again...HOW!?! Look at the damn size of the gear of the goalies compared to back then. People say "oh the sticks are better now so the shots are harder" Bullshit! Put an Al MacInnis shot or Al Iafrate against a Phaneuf or Souray shot today with their comps, and they'll still be pretty damn close. Something needs to be done about the damn Michellin Men in net these days.
6 vezina's, 2 straight harts, olympic gold medal, stanley cup all time best NHL save percentage 92.23%. one of the greatest net minders of all time. Dominik "The Dominator" Hašek.
People argue who the best goalies of all time are... Some say Roy is best of all time, some say Brodeur, Gretzky says Grant Fuhr, many say Hasek, even a couple choice few say Luongo, even though he's just playing his career...
But one thing's true, Hasek is for SURE one of the best of all time, the most flexible, and the best of shape of any goalie. Great saves Dominator, thanks for posting this!
Thankyou so much for posting this!! I remember this whole series. Hasek is the best. A total flopper who makes a dramatic save all the time!! So fun to watch. I saw him at Chicago Stadium during these playoffs in '92 and wondered why he wasn't the Hawks starting goalie. I also wondered why the they traded him when he did so well in the playoffs? Probably the same reason the Hawks just traded Marty Havlat. The owners are fucking stupid.
Well, Havlat wasn't traded. He left as a free agent. And unlike with Hasek, they replaced Havlat with a more talented player. Though if Mike Keenan hadn't been shot down by ownership, he'd have kept Hasek and traded Belfour in a package deal for Eric Lindros. Now that would have been a fun team to watch.
@1984Punx I'd love to be able to get goalie equipment that's not freaking gigantic. Moving around quickly is such a pain in the ass with all the stuff there is now. :(
best goaltender was born..!!! his name is DOMINATOR !!!
